So I have an issue with Sonar. I've got two computers connected to the base station and that part works perfectly. I really love the ability to listen to one computer while using the other one, great stuff. The issue is that on my main computer sonar just refuses to activate. When I go to the Sonar tab in the GG app I just get a spinner.

Both computers are running the latest GG version and the headset has the latest firmware.

if you want to test your mic after using sonar, do NOT use the built in mic test in sonar as the quality is bad. either use discord mic test, OBS, or various websites that do microphone tests to check how clear you sound.

Discords mic test is also garbage and it makes you sound way worse than you do.
I suggest making a second discord account on your phone and then calling yourself. Thats a true test of how you sound

Turns out that in our snarkiness lay genius. I went into GG Settings > General > General > GG Services > Sonar and toggled it off. Then I turned it back on. Now it works as intended. 🙄

Hello guys, I have a problem with Arctis 7+, i can't setup Sonar app because there is no devices at all. Devices showing in engine and also in Windows. Tried to reinstall GG (Disconnect headset > Uninstall GG > Reboot PC > Install GG > Connect headset > Start GG) - nothing changes. Should Sonar devices be removed with GG removal? (they not) Maybe i need some additional programs? (like Visual C++, Net Framework).

i found something that sounds like it works pretty well

the settings are noise reduction on, background on 1.00, impact on 1.00, noise gate on -10.db but you hit auto after you put -10db

and possibly smart voice where you set it to 1.00 and then disable that

from the mic test built into sonar i played some spotify and it didn't remove it all the way but made the songs super quiet

quiet enough so if your talking to your friends they wont hear it anymore

and it works when you are talking over the music from what ive seen

im also using the balanced eq configuration for my voice

do you think you can try the settings i told rm to try and see if that helps for the audio pick ups?

and for the playback device that could be a number of things, it depends really on what your using as your primary sound device

like for me, i originally was using a third party app to have a custom eq before i used sonar and had the output to that eq, which would in itself output to my headphones

but i then swapped over to realtek audio to try fixing the audio picking up problems which i don think helped to be honest

for the discord notifications, this might be discord itself, i would look into if you have the discord overlay on all of your games set to on

and maybe try setting up a keybind to turn on this overlay

for instance im using alt + q to use this overlay and so far i havent run in to any problems

sorry for not answering sooner but yes these are my settings

essentially as jappie said earlier your voice would cut off because of the noise gate so you might want to try to lower that at small increments at a time

try maybe 1db at a time lower or maybe even .5 or 2

but you dont want it too low because this noise gate is also what is keeping the audio from your desktop out from going into your mic

so lower the threshold on the noise gate enough to block your desktop for the most part, but just low enough to where you wont get cut off

another alternative and thing you have to look for would be to move your mic closer to your mouth

i have my mic a little closer than i normally would and so far have not run into any cutting off

@nimble prairieok uninstall sonar properly like make sure the directories get deleted in programfiles (x86) appdata directories then reboot then do not install gg yet plug your headset direct to windows using audio cable see if it detects it properly then unplug and use usb cable to connect headset direct to pc seeing if it recognises properly disconnect then plug dac/baseunit using usb to every one of your usb ports front and back checking to see if it recognises the base unit then switch headset on play some music to see if it is connected ok if all ok then install gg login to steelseries account then activate sonar and select the channels all should tick green then try and use sonar

Game EQ controls the "Game" audio stream. Chat EQ controls the "Chat" audio stream. The Mic EQ controls your mic input.

Changing Game is pretty obvious (boost noises in game, lower things you don't want, etc) but the EQ on the Chat stream might be good for helping to cut down noise on your friends mics if they have bad mics.

and of course, Microphone is for modifying your own mic sound, for getting rid of your own background noise or minimizing any other issues

I have looked just about everywhere in both the regular GG-settings as well as the Sonar settings, but I cant figure out where to change these settings - to the point, where I thought the only place to change the sidetone were on the charger/oled-screen-thing (sorry, i just dont know the name of this device :b ).

In GG go to Engine -> Gear -> whichever headphones you have -> audio -> mic sidetone (off, low, medium, and high)

Mic sidetone should be on the left side. You can turn on the sidetown without messing with the equalizer stuff. hope that helps!

So I go to the Sonar page within GG but when I go to "Select Game Out" it is blank. I see it within the audio panel to choose from but Sonar doesn't see it. I've unininstalled, reinstalled, a couple different times now but Sonar doesn't see it. Just empty.

Engine can see the device and my Arctis Nova Pro Wireless works with the default engine just fine.

Have u tried changing to Sonar Chat? I just recently discovered you can use DTS:X Unbound with GG, all that is required is the Sonar Chat for the Spatial sound, so I suspect that if you change to Sonar Chat you will have all at the fingertips.

wait, is it blank or does it show outputs? since from your description it sounds like it's working totally fine? the sonar window is asking you to select what device to output to, so in your case it would be the headset

No it is blank, the sonar app only shows Arctics pro wireless. When I select the output device in windows as gaming no sound comes out. There is no gaming or chat option in the sonar app at all. And sonar is enabled. I’ve uninstalled and reinstalled the app several times

that's what it does since sonar is meant to be the last link in the audio chain on your PC. the only solution to stop it from doing it is to turn sonar off (or change your output device in GG if you need to switch to another output)

Hey folks I saw that update 25 added the option to have Game and Chat at higher audio quality (96khz@24bit). Is this only for the Nova pro wired version? this is what I am referring to., In windows it shows sonar gaming and chat options, previously I had the Sonar Gaming as an option in GG and a Sonar Chat in GG. I cannot set the gaming or chat sonar in GG can only select Headphones. If I choose the Gaming option in windows NO SOUND is played because GG has the sound only going to the Headphone option

I think you might be mistaken. from your photos everything appears totally correct. Sonar options will NEVER show in the dropdown in GG. This is because that dropdown in GG is selecting what device you want to output to, and Sonar can't output to itself. here's a screenshot of my Sonar dropdown with me using a Nova 7.

If you're setting the output in Windows to "Gaming" and nothing is playing, you should check that you haven't changed any app outputs and check that all apps are correctly outputting to the right stream. That's why windows says "Apps might have their own settings"

I think the newest version of GG is causing Sonar to not be compatible with DTS anymore. My ability to enable spatial audio for my game device disappeared, but I could still enable it for my chat device.
Any attempts at reinstalling 25.0 did not solve the problem. Installing 24.0 fixed it.

Thats because its adjusting the physical headphones at that point and not just the game stream. Its doing the same thing that Vlaï said to do above, just in a different way. It also causes the mixer to stop working 🙃

It's not that it fully broke compatibility in a sense. DTS just does not run at that sample rate

Even with HyperX or Logitech headsets using DTS, you have to run lower sample rates for it to work correctly

Because building in the second chip required to have two hardware output devices from the same device is expensive. It's even more expensive these days with the chip shortage and heavy inflation. They had to decide between jacking the price or keeping prices the same as the original Arctis line but tossing a feature they knew they could emulate through software anyways. It's a lose lose for them. Either people complain about not having hardware ChatMix or they'd complain about the ridiculous price hike in order to keep it

I guess that's fair enough. I'd personally prefer losing bluetooth over having to deal with more bloatware but that's just my preference I suppose. Just as I would happily pay a couple extra dollars (no audio output chip would justify a "ridiculous price hike" -- even something overkill, as a standalone board, and without accounting for wholesale would be ~$15. And that doesn't account for the engineering costs to move away from hardware and develop Sonar itself). No other headset I've been able to find has decent hardware ChatMix, but there are loads of software EQs out there. Plus I now can't use the feature at all on platforms that don't support Sonar.

In any case, I still don't see why it requires an account/login (beyond "engagement"/data harvesting).

Update the firmware/software. It will only show headphones (NPW). In Sonar you will no longer see the chat and game as devices anymore, it used to show like that in earlier versions @turbid wigeon

If the headset is on, the chat mix can only be accessed through the DAC by pressing the volume knob once.

Once you press the volume knob you should see the game/chat mix balance and be able to adjust it. Note: after software updates this feature glitches out and does not let you move the slider, you can disconnect the USB from the PC and reconnect it and/or re-pair the headset to the DAC and it should work after that.

Looking for advice on Sonar and engine EQ settings.
So, on your experience, how does it work the best. Should I leave the Engine EQ settings in default and try to tweak the sound exclusively in Sonar? Or am I supposed to be tweaking the sound in both Sonar and Engine?
I have the Arctis 9 headset and I´m looking to improve the overall sound experience for gaming/Apex Legends in PC (i find the available preset for Apex in Sonar super bland).

They’re independent of each-other. If you have Sonar on in the settings then it will take over, if you have sonar off then it will use the EQ in the GG engine that you have set up.

The main purpose for sonar is to be create virtual devices so you can adjust as independent audio channel and has more features than you’re standard EQ. I would experiment with both and see what sounds best

I invested in this headset, my second Arctis set, upgrading from the 7+ to the 7 to get 5ghz+bluetooth and it's been such a pain in the ass since then. Everything worked great with the 7+ but since removing it and adding the Arctis 7 it's been non stop problems. First Sleep didn't work and I had to do all these steps already basically - uninstall GG, remove device from USB and restart, reinstall GG, delete drivers from device manager, plug device in, wait for drivers to reinstall, re-pair headset with receiver.. then sleep works.. but now Sonar is broken.

I'll basically repeat those steps but also look for orphaned directories too.

No because the support rep told me to ensure I downloaded and installed the latest version before removing the drivers in device manager.

I actually don't know if the version I had installed before was different or not, everything in the app is identical to before in appearance, options, etc.

It's a bit different. For one the Arctis 9 has slightly more mid bass and less sub bass. So you would want to boost below 40hz by a couple db, and perhaps take 2 dB off in the 140hz range with a Q of .707 or so

@uncut falcon see the comments above if you're using discord, but its basically the same principle for other headsets and apps or games. Your sonar chat and game will obviously not have "Arctis" and should show the name of your headphones. In windows, the playback devices and recording device should show as the images above. If both of those have the correct devices listed then its just a matter of have the app/game that you are trying to use pointed at the correct Sonar input/outpout

like im not sure how to work the whole thing too well but i get 3 options that are useable for output, headset earphone(bad quality no spacial sound so impossible to play with) , speaker which works in the valorant lobby and everything but as soon as i load in it stops until im out the game and then the sonar one which i trieed to get to work but it dosent give me any ingame audio even in the lobby and im just unsure on how to use it.

The speaker has useable quality compared to the earphone but it is weird sometimes and dosent let me use it

Btw when I say speaker I mean like the option but both come out the headset

But when I use the speaker I can’t use the microphone

Which is why I wanted to use the sonar thing but that’s diffuclt too

Ok, close GG completely. Right click that NVIDIA high def audio device and disable it to try something, then reopen GG/Sonar and check the Game/chat/mic sources again @eternal marsh

So in game or apps. The main audio should be Gaming. the voice or in game comms should point to Chat and mic to Sonar mic

Ok, before disabling that try this. Close GG again, right click in playback device gaming and set to default device, chat to default comms device, and in mic default as well. do thatv for all three and open gg again

To try and reset the defaults, someone did that earlier and it it helpes

You may have to go back and forth between the two of them, just make sure gaming is back to default device and chat back to default comms

once thats done, open GG again and check game sound

Im not, familiar with Valorant settings but is this just showing the voice chat settings or sound settings in general?

Top one is any sound and bottom is to use ur mic and stuff

But my problems in the past have been with the speaker settings which I used to use I wasn’t able to speak because I had to have a certain mic input selected to use the good audio and vice Versa, I could speak but with unusable audio

So I figured using the sonar featur could be the solution

hello

i'm attempting to set up sonar and it's not showing me any input or output devices

my headphones and microphone is working it's just not showing up here for some reason lol

it's worked before with no problems

and if i try to just click "set game output" without selecting anything it doesn't let me close out of the menu

can anyone help

Unplug the USB from the PC for a 10 secs or try another port then open gg and see if that helps @delicate burrow
