I use 3rd party Velour earcups that are extra thick, my ear sits centered and that's my personal preference. Since there is only one driver per side I don't think that the effectiveness of the 3D sound is affected by your ear position per se, you might get a slightly different soundstage in one place or another but other than that the effect of the "3D" isn't particularly conditional on your ear being in a specific place, other than having the left and right drivers on the left and right, respectively.

the way the 3D is achieved is actually kind of interesting because I believe you could even wear the headphones upside down and you wouldn't notice a difference, because it's not changing where the sound is coming from. The virtual soundstage is basically hacking our perception of space in sound by modulating the volume of the noises coming from each side, and that's it. There's a fancy algorithm that determines how loud a sound from a particular direction should be relative to other sounds in each ear to give the illusion of 3D space.

USB on the other hand is entirely digital, so using it for audio out would not make sense in a wired configuration because now the headphones need to have an unnecessary DAC in them
Wireless headphones need to use usb though, because the transmitter uses digital signals and requires power
Using usb would result in worse sound quality, and a much more expensive headset

id check out arctis 9s or 7s. dont get the 9X its for xbox only. both have great reviews and my 9X was incredible when i played on xbox so i can only assume that the 9s are just as good.

if youre on xbox then definetly get the 9x. the other headsets dont work correctly due to the xbox not having the right audion ports. i dont know who said the arctis was bad but thats steelseries brand and the 9X is the way to go in my opinion. never had an issue. the only reason i dont use them anymore is because i have the pros since i moved to pc.

then id hold off man because the 9X is only gonna work on xbox. you can get chat and game on the pc but its one or the other with the 9X. id just get a cheap headset to pass the time till you get on pc and then go with regular 9 or 7.

Normally that function is Alt+Tab on PC... Mac doesn't support that quite the same way, CMD+Tab is the closest you can get, and even so, Mac doesn't support gaming hardware quite as well as Windows in the first place.

Does the Arctis Prime headset include surround sound?
If not, do I need to look at the more expensive options such as the PRO ?

pretty sure you can use serial numbers when claiming stolen goods and such as well, or at least you used to. Theft would occur and then you could take the S/Ns of your expensive devices to the local police and if/when they catch a thief they could cross reference that sort of thing to identify stolen items, also I'm pretty sure that that sort of info is sent out to local pawn shops who will ping the police if an item with a S/N flagged as stolen shows up.
Also as Klex says, you use it for warranty, so if you posted your s/n here someone else could use it to get a "replacement" of your item, which for obvious reasons is no good (and if you did have an issue with your device their system would show it as having already been replaced, which means no support for you)
