and thats the positioning of the A and B plots
in SAO the anime, the A plot is trying to escape the video game, while the B plot is the romance between kirito and asuna
but in the light novels, being stuck inside the video game is merely a backdrop, the B plot
its all about asuna and kiritos developing relationship, and for that reason its able to shine its strengths a little bit more, since the video game portion, despite being what lures in its audience, is the part that sucks

the main character, hina, had her mother get swallowed by the void when she was young, but before she died she gave hina an orb with a number on it, and said to find "The Red Baron"
so she sets out trying to find the red baron, and eventually finds a man going by the name of the flash baron
the first few arcs are already good on their own tbh, I enjoyed them personally, but without spoilers something happens like 3 short arcs in that changes the show for the better
