I'm in the middle of reading chapter 6 of 8 from the visual novel.
I'd say the visual novel is definitely the best because no inner monologues are cut; you get the full depth for each character. But Ryukishi07 has a habit of repeating himself so some segments can be dull. It's also a really large commitment at like 80 hours.
The manga leaves out a lot of the depth but keeps the core mystery and ideas intact anyways. The art style varies from chapter to chapter for better or worse.
