so after everything you told me i went to read "orin" destypedia page and found this " she told them that night was falling and that at the edge of the system the fate of humanity was being fought in a war waged by two women feared and mistrusted by most while in the Last City the Drifter also held fate in his hands" and i now have an another question who are the 2 women she taling about ?

Probably referring to the Hourglass and the Forgotten Blade - Elsie Bray, AKA the Exo Stranger, and Eris Morn.
They who wielded Darkness, along with Drifter, and did not succumb to its corruption.
That's why they were the ones present on Europa.
Im pr sure the nine are the dust around the planets not exactly the planets themselves
I'd love to know which of the nine like us tho
damn everything is linked beautiful
Craaaayyy
My favorite piece of lore has to be the mad scientist dreg that has stockpiled different weapons/body parts from battles.
Never heard of it
no way this isn't in the lore, I thought it was her work vex technology that augmented her exo body allowing her to see multiple timelines
again D1 Vanilla Story should not be overanalyzed i think, because bungie just through it together poorly, so some of these questions I don't even think they know an answer that would be satisfying
her time loop is relevant now
itâs the entire reason BL is a thing
but itâs meant to be a mystery not easily explained at this point
well we are about to reach the climax and finale of the narrative for the last 10 years so I hope we get cool answer
the general assumption is itâs either the traveler or even the witness responsible
personality I think the latter
like I don't think bungie always thought elsie bray would be the stranger
Definitely not
I think that idea was set around Warmind?
Was the Stranger intended to be Maya before?
Tryna remember what I think Iâve heard about this subject
Felwinter was a warlock right
And Rasputin's "Son"
didnât stop Shaxx from decapitating him though
felwinter was not a human turned exo like any other
Rasputin created felwinter to learn about humanity
he was a special ai crafted by Rasputin that was killed in the collapse
Then returned as a guardian
when he was revived as a Lightbearer, Rasputin viewed it as his son being stolen
so he tried killing him, a lot
Interesting
And released siva
it culminated in baiting the iron lords to old Russia with SIVA only to kill them with it
reminder SIVA was only in the replication chamber
and used against 9 iron lords
BRO I WANT SIVA BACK SO BADLY
Same
all the hundreds of others died from Rasputinâs bare firepower
And why did Rasputin shoot the traveler
I just think they know it doesn't really fit into the current narrative and don't know how to make it return
then get outbreak perfected crafted
Like in the collapse, it didn't
Maybe in the remaster raids
I think wrath?
Huh? Then how did it lose a shard?
Rasputin created a protocol designed to keep the traveler from leaving that would threaten it with attack
Pyramids
that was the black fleet
pyramid ships fought it
not Rasputin
Confused but ok
the shard wasnât broken off
Bro said red war lol
it was intentionally cast off
Now the shard is being corrupted I think by hive now
it was corrupted by the darkness of the black fleet
the traveler essentially amputated an infected limb
We went to the shard during the Red War but it had been there since the Collapse
Got it
Also don't forget the witness is as tall as building, so bro is gonna be a scary boss
I am still disappointed that the deep stone crypt raid boss was not clovis bray/or something darkness related it made the beyond light feel like filler story
I dunno
Especially since beyond light had some much to do with exos and they are a favorite part of the lore for me
Again, we need Clovis
it was the perfect bridge between the stasis aspect and braytech aspect
direct confirmation that Clovis was using darkness the whole time
We werenât just gonna destroy his AI as a boss
We can just destroy a version of him, or something and say we keep the other one around
My theory 4 years ago

Was that the raid boss was gonna be Clovis Bray's son whose mind was still in an exo body
And had gone insane
So your idea of a better raid boss is basically just a glorified stress ball ultimately?
Well taniks kinda is a stress ball tbh
100 clears on deep stone
I feel relaxed đ
Did you like taniks as the boss, or would have preferred someone else Eris
Don't you think it was a missed opportunity for a better boss, instead of a D1 joke only a small amount of people would understand
I mean it wasnât really much of a joke
it had legitimate foreshadowing and reasoning
Test dummy Exo frame in the room with Big Clovis AI Head to test guns and dps on
Why Is Clovis Bray Such a Bad Character
Like respectfully i have never seen the evil business man done back from the grave done so terribly
I think he is interesting, he gives insight to what people became after being blessed by the traveler knowledge, and the fact he was involved the creation of also all the most important aspects of golden age tech(exos, rasputin, and jumpships) I do hope to see more of him
also he has a personality and he isn't pure evil as he does love his immortal grand daughters in his own way
I want to see more of him just so I can throw more Nova Bombs in his face
10/10, wicked and vile man I love to hate
Like I do agree with Eris, that we need him, but I hope we get to fight him in some form, like I just want more unique raid/dungeon bosses that aren't recycled enemies types
If we ever get to be able to put an end to him I'll be first in line
Warlord Ruin boss not being an ahamkara of some kind was a crazy missed opportunity
is that not recycling an enemy type
The story we got with Hefnd was better than just fighting Hefnd himself tbh
It was meaningful and tied into the themes and ideas of the season
Rather than just being âlook, an Ahamkara to kill!â
anyway, have we identified what the dread are?
like one of them is obviously psion but I havenât seen the rest
The Husk seems to be an altered Hive
hm
do you think theyâll do the D1 cabal thing where you can see their face after headshot kills
I hope
Harbinger and Omen seem to have a similar body plan to Rhulk, possiliby based on him like how the Tormentors are based on Nezzy?
And that would be cool, it's always fun when you can see visible damage on enemies
that was my thought back when it was just âSubjugatorsâ
Riiiiiiight yeah that's what I was thinking too
The Dread by and large seem to be either repurposed enemies or like.. Perhaps they're moreso made from a template based on other beings.
Vaguely reminds me, in concept, of the Taken. Which would track, imo.
I thought they were creations of the witness of some kind, they are probably gonna be busted
Following the potential logic, then I would imagine that the Grim are based off some other alien race we've not encountered
We got 2 psions in there so thereâs that
Is there any information on the romance novel "Hunter of the Heart" other than that it's about a Warlock and a male Hunter, Cayde read it, and our Ghost and Eva think it's shit?
holy hell someone wrote a fanfic of it lol
Anyone else see the Omen do a respectful bow in the small trailer?
They seem like such delightful chaps despite wanting to cave our skull in
Tally ho lads
Holar
To be fair, didnât a group of psions join the witness?
Donât know
what do you think the shadow legion is
I mean the rebel group
Plus the shadow legion are just clones no?
fairly certain they are the shadow legion, judging by their personal Calus statue in vox obscura
no
that was just the remaining loyalists on the haunted leviathan
shadow legion has defectors and others too
any updates on the nine recently? the universe is about to end and they are still just sitting in their weird dimension with Xur and Star horse?
whats that? which exotics?
bruh, at this point i think the nine fucked off and left Xur on auto-mode.
Also explains why he hasn't been relevant in years, took an interdimensional horse for him to finally do something but thats almost 3 years ago.
Considering that its only psions
Well consider the absolute shit storm that the Sol System has been since at least the Collapse and that there are pressing matters rn, trying to get people to make them into conventional life forms is not very important in the grand scheme of things
The fact that its only psions imo implies that its not just shadow legion members
you pass by blocks of regular shadow legion grunts stuck in what looks like amber
In one of the campaign missions
Im referring to the enemy types
No I know, but like. The only Psions we really know to be with the Witness are the ones in Shadow Legion; the rebel sect of Psions was only working for their own personal gain
To which they fucked up in Chosen and Caital set some effort into rooting them all out
Oh okie
Still want to know what the hell the grim was based on before it became the grim
Most likely the same Psion group as that one Psion who didnât want Calus to give all Psions free-citizen status but Iâm not clear on that
No
Just cause
Why do you assume hes a guardian
idk
How many volumes are there in the story(separate from this convo)
I assume evry1 a guardian tbh
His title is literally god of pain
He's a god
i c
Thats not how it works
In fact lightfalls campaign showcases people not being guardians
I don't think he's a specified race
hes racist
He looks to be the same race as the Tormenters
he fat as hell
yea i js searched it up too lmao
Similar to Rhulk, but not the same
Why did our ghosts start acting weird at the end of lightfall campaign?
?
Witness took control
A whatever-Nezarec-was; we donât have that much information on his background and what we do have is fairly allegorical, as in it builds him as a mythological figure rather than really elaborating to who or what he is
If you are assuming he is a Guardian based on his control over Light, it would be good to know that all forms of Paracausality exist to some extent across the Destiny universe almost thinly spread - including the Light
He is most likely skilled in the use of Darkness but he is not Darkness itself; Darkness isnât even a conscious thing, itâs a force, an aspect of Paracausality as a whole, itâs as sentient as gravity or the forces which keep atoms together
Pretty sure hes baiting or just not paying attention
Not paying attention
Then I will answer regardless
played this game for 3 years and not have a single peice of knowledge when it comes to lore
Now is this the forums or from Bungie themselves? Because the Qugu are only mentioned in 2 entries in passing and there is not much on them at all
Iâll let our resident Byf Premiumâs words speak on the matter, but itâs unlikely that Nezarec and the Qugu are connected to anything
#đlore-discussion message
Thatâs totally fine, if you have any questions thereâs plenty of regulars in this chat that can probably answer your questions
đ
And this itself might be from the Witness providing some material for Calus to produce the Tormentors, since he describes them in the campaign as being the result of the collaboration between them
How long would it have taken organized religion to disappear from the destiny universe. Like was it a gradual Downfall. Or did it just stop existing overnight when The traveler showed up?
The holiday events are somewhat merged celebrations across the various cultures and religions, and we also somewhat have Traveler worship to consider as well, since that had developed in the Golden Age and then somewhat persisted/reemerged in the City Age
Osiris got his own cult after disappearing into his research - literally
And to an extent you could say the Shadows of Yor worshipped Dredgen Yor but thatâs a bit of a stretch
I'm aware of that stuff
The Travelerâs appearance did not magically change Earthâs cultures instantaneously, to the extent that regional distinctions and names - Manhattan, London, Russia, the Panama Ravine, etc etc - have persisted even into the current Age of Triumph, so it would stand to reason that organized religion would still have persisted
Certainly caused a shift in thinking, but not eliminate it; in fact, facilitated it
is poissble for d2 n halo story to connect
No
Even if they did by some miracle, why
Also reminder, bungie doesnât own halo anymore
ye i know just thinking bout d2 in some halo areas
im lost were they making halo and destiny or did they once make d1 when they moved on fron halo?
They made halo and stopped at reach, 343 was created to continue making halo games
Well there is the Paraverse thing; but no, unless Microsoft willingly gives them back the IP of Halo Bungie cannot actually connect the two franchises outside of some winks and nods
And no mega corporation willingly gives out IPs
Truthfully I donât think bungie would even want to make another halo game, they finished their run and concluded it with reach, they are finished with their story
Youâll have to settle for the Dares weapons
Well considering theyâre revisiting Marathon they might have some ideas but yeah, they were on the Halo workhorse for long enough and wanted to make Destiny after a while
It ainât over till bungo makes that concept art moth species into one of their ips
Need
so once they moved on from halo they made d1?
You could probably look up when they transitioned into developing Destiny
When Bungie divested from Microsoft, MS got the rights for Halo
So, yeah alas gotta settle for the Dares weapons
xivu arath has children?
...Nezarec? No. No, not at all.
Yes. All the siblings do.
how many cuz i just fought 3 in a riven arena
are her children so weak in comparsion to oryxs that they becmae mini bosses?
An unspecified amount but here's her brood chart made by Headquarters
The amount of ogres is wild
too many kids
They're not all strictly children
oh savathuns their too lol
Tangentially. She used Quria to Take some of Xivu's children, as shown in the chart.
i did not understand how the chart worked lol
im guessing oryx doesnt care about xivus children
Well he's also dead
I mean Oryx is dead so I imagine thereâs not much he cares about
i have a... vanilla pepsi max
I will take it
bungie planned it for a while, after the release of halo 3, they split into 3 teams, 2 to work on odst and reach, and 1 for d1. but games being games, all the story ideas were probably already being worked on even earlier
when you were reading "all the lore" did you do it in chronological or release order?
then y did uldrin ask hows your sister
oh lol
Because Mara was dead at that point
how was she revived
Throne World
Well, to clarify, Mara was believed to be dead at that point
No one knew sheâd lived through having a Throne World
in the taken war?
Yes
how does a non hive have a throne world
Riven
Oryx tried to kill her and instead she survived and claimed his power after weâd killed him in turn
Riven being Taken came after Mara making a Throne World
oh
which season did mara return in
She returned in Forsaken
oh
And then she didnât do much again until Season of the Lost I believe
Well, she probably had like lore and behind the scenes stuff she was doing but nothing in game I donât think
but y did we have to kill riven?
Because Riven was Taken and threatened the Dreaming City, and also could potentially escape beyond
then y tf do we use her for wishes
This season? We had no other choice if we want to follow the Witness
oh
Mara had it for a time after we exorcised it from Savathûn
And then we had to preserve it so that we could learn from it
Mara tricked the worm into thinking she was going to be its new host
did savathun have any relationship with oryx or his kids?
Instead she had the Parasite unit ready to house it
In what sense?
like fammial
I mean, sheâs Oryxâs sister and thus his childrenâs aunt
did the hive gods not work together or like each other?
Hold on a sec though I think thereâs a fun quote somewhere
He hacks at his insecurity, his sisters' cleverness⊠even his father's throne. Desperate to carve his own shape into the world, sovereign from the Great Navigator.
And where did his overweening pride lead him? Into exile. Such a shame.
But do you know what? I predict he'll return stronger than ever.
And when he does, it won't be because he grew as cunning as his auntie. Or as clever as his sisters. Or as thoughtful as his father.
It'll be because he finally found a bigger sword.```
This is Savathûn talking about Crota
crota was exiled?
who would?
Mael
I mean, we know he was exiled from what it says there
The question would be why and when
yea ik
after he let the vex into oryx's throne world yeah
very funny
Oh shit
I knew about that but I didnât realise that was the reason for his exile
I thought that was a separate event for some reason
So what, Crota was exiled and then went to our moon where he hid for millennia or whatever?
i didnt even know he did that but thats funny asf
he hid on our fucking moon from his dad?
I donât know that being exiled means he was hunted down but
i feel like if crota really wanted he couldve overthrown his father
Perhaps exile is just the Hiveâs version of putting your kid on the naughty step or something haha
Oryx still cared about Crota enough to seek vengeance for his death at our hands so
is oryx other son dead or nah
Nokris? I think so
apparatnely exile is just being forced to leave your home
what the premise and lore behind the wrath of machines raid in case they dont bring it back i wanna know
The Brave weapon lore tabs are pretty neat. Shows what everyone is doing preparing for the portal.
Btw do we know if the whole coalition forces are going in or if itâs only a section
Nokris is dead. He was part of the Warmind expansion and was finally killed for good in Season of Arrivals.
hi i'm back now i was busy with helldivers
I couldnât beat the first mission of warmind as a kid
Neither. Topic by topic as they arose, and through participating in discussions.
Do i need to watch lore for stuff ive already played and stuff or only the past seasons i wasnt here for?
Like I left in warmind and idk lore from after the forsaken pack
Well that rather depends on you, I suppose, and how much you feel you've absorbed.
I don't personally watch lore at all anymore but I used to watch a lot of random or interesting Byf videos when I was first starting out in learning lore.
Is it needed for final shape or as long as Iâve played shadow keep onwards i should be good?
Shadowkeep onwards has a solid foundation for the lore and story of this story arc
But there are always callbacks to older content and lore, of course

You donât need to read (watch?) the lore, just look into topics you find interesting and go down the research rabbit holes as they appear
It's honestly the best way to do it, in my opinion.
Learning lore in a purely chronological order may leave you mistakenly thinking that... oh, I don't know... that Efrideet is dead, or that Drifter might betray us, or something silly.
Or that Rasputin shit the Traveler
Or that Eris Morn is actually evil and will betray us because she's kinda spooooky

"ooh she looks weird she might betray us"
"She has personally saved our lives numerous times at her own personal risk."
"she laughs weird thooouuuugh"
good old Season of the Haunted
Media literacy is when the entire season is about her being compassionate and helping people but she laughed funny so sheâs evil
Man holy shit, that was kinda infuriating
Eris good, eris no evil
It was reasonable in Witch because of the enticement of being a Hive God directly preys on breaking down oneâs inhibitions for achieving their desires but like she legit had no reason to go bad in Haunted
(Ahsa and Eris both I think expressed how intoxicating taking part in the Sword Logic was)
I agree its reasonable in Witch but my main issue with that narrative is every week Ikora would go 'I don't know if Eris will be ok'
and thats kind of what the middle of the seasonal narrative boiled down to
I'm going to be happy when Year 6 is over đ
I saw it as a close friend checking up on her dealing with something she has expressed is going to be a rough time, both genuine concern and being an anchor for Eris as a friend
Oh 100% I think its alright to do it a few times, but when it became a constant every week it just started to get annoying
What is this
The Anomaly is an amorphous blob of Darkness
It caused hallucinations and hysteria amongst the staff
And it's also what sent Clovis to Europa so start all of those shenanigans
It's still there. It's a Crucible map.
Naturally the best course of action to take around a dangerous artifact of Darkness is live fire drills
What was this
That'd be the Black Heart
Whatâs the difference between the green vex and bronze vex
Ik they are called the sol divisive but do they have different purposes
Each Collective were designed and purposed towards different... well, purposes. Like the Hezen Protective of the Vault of Glass.
The Sol Divisive worked in the Black Garden, and at this time, worshipped the Black Heart for power.
What are they up to nowadays
Working with the Witness. In this very Season, in fact.
Also just clarifying, grasp of avarice is a mostly a joke dungeon
Like is the curse actually in the lore
Or just for "loot cave drives you mad"
Grasp is a bit of a mess in the lore. The environmental storytelling does not match that of the audio logs. And no, there's no explanation for the curse past "hee hee greedy person go mad".
The entirety of 30th was mostly made as a celebration, with little to no lore relevance or importance
Is pretty much the loot cave turned Dungeon
I would have to check but it was even a curse?
Pretty much that fireteam just got consumed by the grasp of avarice
Ah yeah forgot that, I haven't played it in months
From the vanguards perspective, is every problem being solved from just one guardian? In destiny campaign they typically say something along the lines of âonly you guardianâ but to complete raids the design is for 6 guardians ?
Our victories are usually somewhat collaborative
And in raids we do fight alongside 5 other Guardians
Lore wise do we play as the same guardian In d1 and d2
Yes
The Guardian, or the Young Wolf, is the same person throughout
The nature of the video game and stuff like veteran dialogue can suggest otherwise sometimes
But thereâs also lore and dialogue everyone gets connecting them as the same Guardian involved in all these events
itâs easily noticed during red war if you played on xbox if you originally played on D1
As Eris said, our victories are collaborative, we are basically the guy in the field
could the guardian beat Mario and Luigi
No
correct
As in the Mario and Luigi series or Mario and Luigi in the main Mario games?
Without breaking a sweat mario is capable of exerting enough force to create explosions simply through a jump
This isn't even taking rpg into account
In a rpg scenario we're the raid boss and Mario and luigi are the sweaty tryhard clan who frequently do top 10s in day 1
They'd grind us to fucking dust
Bullets? Jump
Nova bomb? Hammer
red socks
Mario really does solo
The mere doubt is offensive
Obviously no
My ghost just fucked everything up. Why?
As in, what is the connection between the ghosts and the witness? Do we know? Do we know why the witness can control ghosts? Did they build them??
Ghost got controlled why Witness
Is not the best resource but this already happened like 10 times at this point
In the campaign itself in the second mission
Ghost were made by the Traveler
Don't remember correctly the other questions so wait for any of the guys here they know better about that
the crucible is televised right ? like some form of sports? or i guess like the game The Finals
itd be so nice if that was a bigger aspect of the vibe of crucible
Its a blood sport without any of the risks
The portion of the community focused on PvP is that bigger aspect of the vibe of crucible, playersâ talk about meta and shit is canon to the universe
Yeah
Even Saladin mentions how the Iron Banner is showed around the cabal empire
Wouldn't be strange to imagine that also happens with regular crucible
Heck, guess why the Brave âbannedâ weapons are âcoming out of the vaultâ
Because literally, these weapons got sunset and then are being brought back at the same level of meta even though we have access to their older versions both with focusing and also in the case of Hung Jury, common as hell drops
Hung jury considered a âbanned weaponâ is silly
Iâm pretty sure there are other weapons that could be a better alternative
Iâm trying my best, but I feel like they couldâve added maybe one more black armory weapon. Maybe Iâm biased, but those guns slap, like threat level
Is not even weapons we can obtain are banned is the fact they are banned
Yeah we are literally facing threats that could wipe our entire existence every weekend but those weapons can't be used
Vaguely remember Hung Jury in ye olden days of a couple years ago popping in and out of meta for stuff, but they got constantly nerfed into oblivion
But also like itâs not that complicated, Shaxx is giving you the Good Versionsâąïž of these weapons
You never seen rolls like this before because Shaxx had âconfiscatedâ these rolls and whatever the hell
Shaxx fr is the reason you never got that god roll
Shaxx confiscating powerful weapons that could help us in our battles against literally the end of our existence because they too powerful

Donât worry he did the opposite of that
Thanks Shax for giving me the ability to paint the walls red faster
honestly I think a funny reasoning for banned hung jury would be dead orbitâs current conditioning leaving nobody particularly sure what the official procedure should be for distributing their collaborations
so the vanguard just shuffled all of them into Shaxxâs vault and pretend theyâre not there
All omolon weapons should be sent to the forever box who thought of turning juice into bullets
who thought of turning rocks into bullets
those are meant to be portable, bite sized snacks
I like that we have a grimoire card that makes og randal the vandal canon
what's the "wish" referring to in season of the wish?
Rivens wish
savathuns wish rather
Yeah but like it's not savathĂșns if she is dead
Thats not how that works
She made the wish
Riven doesnât grant it because she has literally no reason to help us
Hence the events of this season
she came up with it, designed it, and left it for us
we wouldnât have had the idea to nor the playing chip of a living ahamkara egg to deal with riven in the first place
The only reason she doesnât just grant us the wish and the season is done like that is because we literally killed her, shes rightfully salty
And sheâs also not dead
Sav being dead didnât impact the wish at all and she wasnât dead when season of the wish started
Well she is now...
Every plasma weapon in every game is the same to an extent if you wanna get nerdy about it
AND still has the throne world
thatâs irrelevant now
sheâs not tied to it anymore
itâs just a physical location constructed out of light now
if she dies she dies
Ah
Right then i best go arc class and fry a moth
Sav is still a major player, shes still a problem that will eventually get dealt with
Probably in the episode heresy
You do this already in Witch Queen silly! She came back, remember?
And then Eris did it again! And Saint did it a ton of times!
we did
Immaru and Savathun planned it
Because she and Immaru planned this
they both wanted it to happen so they did it
Every since those exotic glaives were released
I still remember being delighted the robot was gay
They tell the whole plan
glances
I hate autocorrect and technology and we live in a society of broken systems
guess you could say
this time around, you werenât able to properly
string it together
But the exotic âEdge of [blank]â glaives give us a sequence of events leading to, during, and after Savathunâs revival by Immaru
Ah strange
either way thereâs still the patrol dialogue of ghost recognizing Immaruâs voice, meaning he wasnât just spawned out of nowhere
it was never the travelerâs direct action, unlike people like to say
mfw when the entity known for favouring free will and complexity more or less above anything else allows people to have free will
(with extremely rare exceptions)
yeah, itâs just the same principle of humans/exos/awoken being risen
and before anyone asks, no
Rhulk was not an exception
(ending the fucking world is a reasonable exception imo)
he was actively tearing apart the ghost and killing it while proclaiming himself worthy
Thereâs also information from the Collectorâs Edition regarding how they got so many Ghosts to follow them, as many had began to read the excerpts of the Books of Sorrow we had discovered and felt sympathetic for the Hiveâs origins
the traveler just spared the ghost any further suffering
"the light must be given, not taken"
if the traveler did not do shitfuck, you could argue that went against her entire ideology
This paired with strong-arming a couple others, and you get enough Ghosts to start a small populace of Lightbearer Hive
Mara getting upset when Riven says no is so funny
fym nuh uh
it is funny though
âwhy wouldnât you want to save the entirety of existence?â
âIâm literally deadâ
âBitch you killed me and my kids stfuâ
âYOU TRAPPED MY PEOPLEâ
âYOU KILLED MY PEOPLEâ
Hilarity ensues
riven fully admitting with zero irony that her mate was the only objectively good ahamkara, while still acting like she was imprisoned for no reason
truly an icon
also can you imagine being oryx, finding a wish dragon who you thought were all extinct, taking her, and then trying to roleplay as her when you realize her mate is also alive
Wait where the hell is that from
during the cutscene after starcrossed
after riven was taken, oryx tried finding [I forgot his name] by speaking through riven
but he recognized it wasnât actually her which led him to self destruct via wish for egg
[terenis?]
yes
She really do be âš girlbossing âš
is it ever explained why guardians can't get new ghosts?
because how can ghosts get new guardians, (shin malphur's ghost)
Shin only ever had one Ghost, but otherwise the exact mechanic for it, if there is one, has never been detailed
Itâs always just been one Ghost to one Lightbearer
no shin's ghost belonged to someone else who got killed by dregden yor, and then went to shin
also this also broke another rule of ghost having to find a corpse to bring to life
it is also never explained how finding a right corpse works, the lore sometimes mentions it but not always
it hasnât been stated whether one guardian is forever linked to one ghost or not
itâs been real 50/50
No, Shin only ever had one Ghost. He was Risen as an infant before his Ghost was killed shortly after. Vincent, Yorâs Ghost, and Jaren Wardâs Ghost just sorta hang out with him.
what, can you show me where you found this out
this goes aganist what I have read
@trim grotto Can explain it better than I ever could
this is what I read
Our biggest evidence is actually the lack of evidence. Itâs never been stated to happen. Like for example, we have plenty of Guardians that have lost their Ghosts and plenty of Ghosts that have never found their right partner- But you never see/hear about them ever pairing up. Hell- Our Ghost was right there as Cayde was dying, and was unable to do anything for him.
thereâs also the lil easter egg with master chief where he basically rejected the ghost, so even potential guardians can reject ghosts
I am assuming you got this off Destinypedia?
Just for reference- Destinypedia isnât the most reliable thing. As it can be edited rather easily by most anyone, itâs gotten lore wrong in the past.
And I mean- I personally wouldnât hold too much merit for a little easter egg.
Destinypedia, imo, is good for a refresher on topics, but not particularly for more of the minutiae.
I see, well can you send where you read about the shin malphur ghost thing, because I never heard this before
it seems interesting
Well since it seems Mael is busy right now, I was actually able to find his post about it.
TL;DR: A user asked Jon Goff, the writer for Shin Malphur, to clarify the situation about Shin and Ghosts. To which he clarified, âShin had one Ghost (briefly), but many friends.â ⊠â⊠It is my intent, as touched upon by certain words, the they [the other Ghosts] are âjust hanging out.â Though, whose Ghost Shin is hanging out with in his later life isnât necessarily who you assume.â
IIRC, during D1 back in Age of Triumph there was a lore entry about a Ghost leading a group people away from a band of Fallen, one of the infants in the group of people died, which the Ghost those to raise, before the Ghost later died to lure the Fallen away.
Itâs not stated outright but it is believed the infant in question is Shin.
(Which Maelâs post actually goes over all this as well now that I am reading it properly.)
Shin is a bit of an outlier in that he can seemingly wield the Light despite his Ghost being dead, but not an outlier in that he somehow bonded with a second Ghost.
Aaaah see, your mistake was trusting Destinypedia wholeheartedly
Sorry catching up
No worries
That doesnât even really contribute to that argument; to reiterate, if it were the case that Ghosts and Lightbearers could find new partners, it would be present in the lore a whole hell of a lot more, especially considering during the Red War, all Guardians lost their connection to the Light and either lost their ghosts or died their final deaths
As currently presented within the lore, Ghosts get one partner, thatâs it, regardless if itâs the one they are most destined for or if itâs just the closest body
Yeah thatâs what I was trying to illustrate.
Were it something possibly then we would likely be hearing about it. We have plenty of Ghostless Guardians and Ghosts that have never found their right Chosen- It would have done us extremely well if we could pair them up instead.
Somethingsomething Occamâs Razor- You never hear about it, ergo, the most likely assumption/actuality is that it is not possible.
Oooo remember those theories of âwas it our ghost that found usâ during red war? Good times
Funnily enough I think this kinda connects to a theory the Cryptarchy brewed up regarding how Shin was able to use Golden Gun with the Last Word, in that conspicuously he had spent some time with that Solar Titan order, the one that forged the summonable hammer; it goes that the Last Word got reforged in a similar way - hence why the Golden Gun takes its appearance sometimes - which is why Shin could use it despite his lack of connection to the Light.
There was contention with how Last Word becomes normal after we repair it, but Iâm of the mind that because all the specially forged pieces got replaced with normal pieces, it itself just became a regular gun (but then that runs into the issue of how Golden Gun can still be summoned but idk)
I think Iâve heard about that theory too
Something like along the lines of being able to use Light that resided within the gun or some such
And yâknow
I think I can understand why Shin would want to retire
True, it was Jarren Wardâs prior to Shinâs ownership
He has a very fast draw but- One grave mistake and it was all over
Probably was such a fast draw because of that fact
Didnât have the same luxury of coming back from death like other Lightbearers
L
The hive forger with a fast hand
Tf you mean L, Shin Malphur was taking care of business for decades Lightless and with no rezzing, to the point that he was working up until 5 years ago
Even made a bunch of Yor wannabes piss their pants
he died
No tf he didnât
No heâs alive
nuh uh
He just retired
he went to the happy farm with the other lightless guardians
During the Forsaken era, he entrusts the Last Word to the Guardian, as they had shown they would be able to carry on his goal of showing other Guardians how to properly handle Darkness
Read this and the other entries in the book
https://www.ishtar-collective.net/entries/revelations-and-invitations
Canonically, our Last Word isnât a copy, it is the ACTUAL gun used by Jaren Ward and Shin Malphur
A name as big as Shin Malphur would have everyone in the Vanguard and in our Solar System talking about their death
And then there was the whole thing of him having us purify the original Thorn used by Dredgen Yor into Lumina
After everything he had done, the man earned his retirement
Guy gets to nap
I hope him and his Ghost buddies are out having the time of their lives somewhere
Yâknow, it is rather nice to think about. Shin banked on everything to get Guardians to be able to safely wield the Darkness alongside the Light as he believed that was what we needed for the future-
And come Final Shape, weâre going to be able to wield Light and Dark at the same time.
Wonder if that ghost hunter (last heard from the reef) is still wandering
Cyrell? Possible. Donât think weâve heard anything about them since Forsaken.
Wandering the dcv

Forever lost
he isn't Lightless
ye i'm raiding
as far as we know, yes
Crimson being illegal yet not getting sunsetting for lore purposes makes me angry
what exactly is the lore behind deep stone crypt? like i feel that whole raid is out of place in destiny and the final boss is really underwhelming for a game with such deep lore
story context, we defeated Eramis and she was frozen in Stasis
most of her council had been eliminated
but while this was going on, the remaining members of her council were messing around with the technology in the Deep Stone Crypt
Atraks used it to make herself into the first Fallen Exo
and she also used some tech to bring back Taniks
Elsie knew what power was within the crypt, so she sent us there to put an end to their plans
eventually, it reaches a point where the entire surface of Europa was at risk due to Taniks taking control of the Morningstar (the oribital space station in the raid)
so we manage to stop him and it ends with us facing Taniks in an epic final battle
as for who Taniks was
Taniks started out as a dreg who was constantly docked by his kell
so one day, he built himself new arms and killed his kell with them, thus ending his own house
Of note, it seemed like the ultimate goal of Eramis at the time was to have an army of Stasis-wielding Exo-Eliksni to march on the Last City which would be- Quite bad.
ever since then, he's been a mercenary, swearing no allegiance to any house
he's been infamous for hunting Guardians
which caught the eyes of some ambitious hunters eventually
Poke the eramis stasis statue
I'd argue that the statue was resistant to whatever we could do
these hunters being Cayde-6 and Andal Brask
so the two hunters made a dare since the seat for Hunter Vanguard was finally announced vacant
whoever killed Taniks, gets to not take the seat
since taking the seat is someing no hunter wants to do
so in the end, Cayde kills Taniks and Andal has to take the seat becoming the Hunter Vanguard
however, Taniks came back
so Cayde killed him again making sure he was dead this time
but somehow, Taniks returned
only this time, he managed to kill Andal Brask
which is what leads to Cayde-6 becoming Hunter Vanguard out of respect for his old friend
jump ahead to the events of D1 in House of Wolves, and we are sent by Variks to hunt down Taniks who was raiding the Temple of Crota on the Moon in a strike mission
we manage to chase Taniks to his Ketch where we kill him
BUT WAIT HE ISN'T DEAD, SHIA SURPRISE
he was reforged with SIVA during the events of Rise of Iron
so we had to hunt him down again in a reprised version of the strike
so that makes 4 confirmed deaths
2 of them by our hand
until Beyond Light in D2 with the Deep Stone Crypt raid where now he becomes the final boss of that raid
and we kill him once more for what we presume is the last time
and as for why he was able to keep coming back, it was because his body was mostly cybernetics
hmmm
you know, Taniks is the Destiny equivalent to General Grievous
Dude did have a sick cape
both have four arms
both are cyborgs
both have sick capes
both hunt down high threat prey (Jedi and Guardians)
both are interested in the thrill of the battle
âVanguard Brask.. You ARE a bold one!â
During DSC
Guardians: "Hello There"
Taniks: "YOU MOTHERFUCKER! YOU KILLED ME TWICE!"
Kelgorath is the new taniks
Kelgorath wishes he were that cool
Heâs just a stubborn roach
Kelgorath wants to be taniks so bad
Every time we see him he gets squished
Kelgorath already reached 3 deaths by us in a single season
and he currently has more confirmed deaths than Taniks
so far we only have 5 confirmed deaths for Taniks
Still nowhere near as cool tbh
Kelgorath meanwhile has 5 confirmed deaths from us and an unspecified amount from other Guardians (plus one from a Techeun)
is Nyx even reading this?
A likely storyâŠ
alright lets talk about the real lore
ya know that one thrall savathun explained her master plan to
where is it now and why is that thrall actually now kelgorath
Lets call that dude Paul the Thrall
đ«Ą
Do you guys have any links to good lore primers for each of the raids?
E.g. for VoG it would explain who the Vex are (milk people), the significance of the confluxes, the first Fireteam that discovered it and only one escaped, etcetera.

Destinypedia is why Eramis is named Eramis.
The original name, taken from an old dialogue piece, is actually Veekris. It was misheard and thus incorrectly entered as an entry.
Some Bungie folks went looking for a relatively unknown name to use for a Fallen antagonist, and bam
The issues with a publicly editable wiki is that it can, intentionally or not, succumb to things like headcanon or human error.
question about the vex and the implications from the lore of the Ishtar collective.
Why does it matter if a single vex can perfectly simulate reality, you, and everyone in it? Why do your simulations matter?
especially so if all vex can do this, then why would saving those in that particular simulation matter if another vex is just going to walk by and simulate you 300 times just by looking at you?
Single vex? Arenât they usually part of a massive collective?
AFAIK, the vex are a microscopic hive mind of that milk fluid. So if you separated one vex construct from the network, and had a gallon of vex milk, it would have a quantifiable amount of processing power. Say, idk, "there's only 1 million organisms in a gallon of vex milk". Whereas if you connected that Vex construct to a Vex Conflux (a node in the Vex network) it would have access to the processing power of all the Vex connected to the network, i.e. quasi-infinite minds, or computing power.
So in the story of the Ishtar collective I believe they had captured 1 Vex. And that 1 Vex was able to simulate them ~200 something times. If the Vex was connected to the network you could argue they'd be simulated infinite times.
So my question is, if 1 Vex can look at you and assume the variables that calculate the universe, and perfectly simulate you an arbitrary but limited amount of timesâ why does that matter? Why must you "save" your simulation?
Is it the inherent assumption that there is a possibility that you might also be a simulation? And by that factor of possibility you should have the presupposed inclination to save your simulated self so that your non-simulated self would have the same inclination?
Whatâs the witnessâs symbol about? What does it represent and why are there variations on it?
Are we talking about that vex unit in the vanilla d1 mission?
Ghost Fragment
TL;DR please?
Uhhh- I'm asking a question lol, not telling information
Ughhhhh too long, gimme time stamp
There's a story where scientists capture a Vex, and discover it is simulating them. And then they rescue their simulations from the Vex.
My question is why bother rescuing your simulation?
You wouldnât want a clone of yourself?
Lolâ I mean that's not why they rescued themselves. I think their answer in the narrative was "because the Vex controls their simulations and can torture them". But... how can you fundamentally care about that small number of your simulations when another Vex can just look at you and simulate you again.

Thatâs why thereâs that Ishtar symbol I; the black garden right ??
What do you think âDo not disturbâ means smh
Do not disturb = DND = DUNGEONS AND DRAGONS MF
Meh not really
I canât offer anything to this discussion
Damn you ERIIIISS
I know a lil bit of vex stuff
We need more than a little bit
I know enough to know to call bionicle
Fair
But if you bring bion then for some magical reason, the convo gets hotter than usual
Big if, he could be A LURKER
There's no time traveler machines enjoyers available I see
Indeed
truly
Itâs still early
Cereal has chew requirement
Nuh uh
Depends how hard ur teefs are
Guardians make their own fate
my chew is paracausal
Probably
Are you implying you think the chassis, the metal part, is part of the vex itself
Do you also consider your clothes a part of your self? Your car? The bus you take?
Even if that bus is populated by several people?
I get knocked down, but I got up again
I get knocked down, but I got up again
I get knocked down, but I got up again
I get knocked down, but I got up again
I'm implying that all of my teeth in every possible timeline are chewing the micro organisms in the vex radiolaric milk.
Nothings gonna ever take me down
Chewing is not required to consume the fluid
Which vog member ingested radiolaria?
Kabr
Kabeer
Your water that you drink has organisms in it too
aka biggy
kabob
Do you chew that too
water is cereal
All liquid is cereal
only aqueous solutions with suspended particles
72% cereal in all humans
aka vex milk
(What if radiolaria wasnât a liquid, what if it was, heavy gas)
Vex are the solute cereal within the milky milk.
leave him alone, he's getting soggy
No he invited me in
VoG is just a the box for the cereal change my mind
Holy shit its the 4th disciple
Be more fear, cause thereâs 8 MORE
Or however many were there
Wait
A single goblin is millions, if not more, vex
Good lord
So many disciples at once
We are doomed!
a single human body comprises of trillions of cells
Yea but the metal part of the goblin isn't a vex really
It's more like clothes
tru
So like, a better analogy is that a currently in use hoodie contains one human (usually)
They're liquid the same way water molecules are liquid
When they're not frozen nor gas
And water molecules in liquid form is, you guessed it
Vex fr are just salty brain water
Suspended in liquid
Suspended in the water solution are silicoid cells, similar to protozoa.
The vex in radiolaria is effectively liquid due to their size
Right but
I'm saying
the protozoa are the cereal
not the vex silica robotic frames
Cereal to you is relative
By technicality everything fluid or solid is cereal to your relative viewpoint
No, lmao I'm saying what the Vex actually are microscopic organisms are the crunch
the liquid is the slurp
They're too small to require crunch
But everything can be crunched
Even the air
One could argue you do nothing but crunch the air
But I wouldn't agree
Their clothes are too big to crunch! Their protozoic microbial flush is too small to crunch! This guy is a cereal connoisseur!
They have a soft spot you can extract this cereal from
Save for the hydras I assume
đïž
And maybe cyclopses
I still think vex are cereal on the sole basis that i could pour em in a bowl and eat em with a spoon
Just like ol' Kabr intended
Vex are cereal confirmed
Samurai
What'd I miss
Riddle me this

Well, they're not strictly a hive mind, for starters. Secondly...
ESI: You can't seriously - your OWN SELF -
SHIM: [profane] idiot. Think. Think. If it can run one simulation, maybe it can run more than one. And there will only ever be one reality. Play the odds.
DUANE-MCNIADH: Oh...uh oh.
SHIM: Odds are that we aren't our own originals. Odds are that we exist in one of the Vex simulations right now.
ESI: I didn't think of that.```
Morning I have schlept for 5 hours which is bad but I am awake which is good
Morning
Funnily enough thatâs the origin of the Ishtar Collective founders, one of whom is Maya Sundaresh
Her wife is Chioma Esi, who is featured in that snippet Mael posted and is the one narrating in the Veil Containment Logs
The scientists found 227 simulated copies of themselves within a singular Vex frame, and decided to emancipate those copies and send them out into the Vex Network, wherein they could communicate their findings back to the original selves
Remember Msund from that one Strike? A simulated copy of Maya Sundaresh (supposedly)
ESI: Unless you take a particularly ruthless approach to the problem of causal forks: yes. They are us.
SUNDARESH: Call a team meeting.
ESI: The other you has too.```

From the Records of the Ishtar Collective
ESI: Maya, I need your help. I don't know how to fix this.
SUNDARESH: What is it? Chioma. Sit. Tell me.
ESI: I've figured out what's happening inside the specimen.
SUNDARESH: Twelve? The operational Vex platform? That's incredible! You must know what this means - ah, so. It's not good, or you'd be on my ...
Gânight
thanks
and yeah I understood it
So from the POV of the Ghost Fragment, they were the simulation
They may well have been, for all they knew
hmm

At the end of shadowkeep is that the witness talking to me?

Hmm
sheâs currently still at large and disemboweling people to âfeed her babyâ
What's up with thorn, then?
wdym
Oh wow
Idfk what thorn is I've just seen it in collections every now and then
Itâs a gun
thorn was cursed by a hive witch using the bones of her dead mate
Thatâs been through a lot
it could devour light and permakill guardians with one bullet
Hear me out, darkblade ornament for thorn
it was then used in a massive murder spree by Dredgen yor
The original thorn, mind you, not the one we get (excluding the one we turn into lumina)
Christ

There is a line Saint can say randomly though, that many Hunters tell him he's a slow draw but none are willing to test that claim. Could Saint give Shin a run for his money?
No

Beehives oh I thought it would be like

Just bees
Bee hive hives
you can also pick the breed of dog
sort of unrelated but do you know the last city thinks pineapples are a myth
Well, who would want to eat a pine flavored apple?
No fuckin way
Yes. Ghost said as much on a mission on Titan before Beyond Light.
Wait what? Specify
you can pick the breed
This implies pets??
When??
When could we have pets??
as a single organism
No more dogs
