Yeah!! The history remains
Btw I know this is a dumb question but is āIrā some sort of hive rank denoting a leading female figure? Eg. Ir Yut, Ir Akhrat, Ir Kaza
Seems to just be a name, as far as I'm aware.
Like Eliksni names often including "ks" or variations of that at the end
Kind of like the equivalent of ādarthā for a Sith Lord

no, thereās a voiceover cutscene after you clear it and go to orbit
Aah
Well I'll take a gander in the morning because I just shut the computer off and I'm in bed now
so was Rasputin actually a threat to the traveler
or was turning him off just out of fear
Personally I donāt think he was, but Eramis still had control over the warsat network and the traveler is still directly above the last city
do we have any sense of scale on how strong he even was
I mean heās an ai
I meant his firepower
heās been severely powercrept which was basically the point of seraph
he didnāt have anything else to do but die so they gave him a good sendoff
I woulda put him in a little drone
how
shrug
He would be a ghost shell
Eramis was a misheard name theu just took and ran with
Ok when we shutdown the upended the worm mother dies also
Ye
Sure, but how is that relevant to that conversation?
Because Veekris does not have the āksā either
Maybe yes, maybe literally a super long sleep; but yeah effectively dead
Idk just like pointing it out
So if I'm understanding right, the Fallen used to be lightbearers blessed by the Traveler but for unknown reasons the Traveler decided to abandon them in favor of Humanity.
And they built those floating eyeballs in veneration and replication of the Traveler
And they came to the Sol system in search of the god that had abandoned them, and then attacked humanity out of spite? Jealousy? Over losing their deity's favor.
They werenāt Lightbearers
They weren't? So the Traveler was just kinda there in the Fallen home system but not actually doing anything there?
the traveler routinely arrived in systems to bless civilizations via terraforming and natural benefits such as longer lifespans
it never actually gave anyone the light
the creation of ghosts during humanityās collapse is the first and only time
Savathun and the lucent brood are working entirely off of some of those same ghosts
no more have been made before or since
Hm, okay.
Is it ever explained why the Traveler chose Sol of all places to be the place it does that?
itās never chosen anyone for a specific reason
its belief is that all life should deserve to exist without inherent reason
it helped anyone it could
But it only gave Light to humanity.
humanity is just the civilization the traveler was with when it decided to make a definitive stand against the witness
Okay, so humanity being the people blessed with the Light is just a coincidence.
humanity never held some special quality above the rest of the universe the traveler has tried to save
weāre just lucky to be the ones where a different approach was taken
Oddly random for a franchise that calls itself Destiny.
actually thatās the whole point of guardians
risen as blank slates without any prior knowledge or experiences, but with godlike power
free to choose to do whatever they want
Game should be called Freedom.
not really as catchy
It worked for Jonathon Franzen.
no idea who that is
Well, theoretically blank slates
itās not the travelerās fault three of the most famous hunters had massive clues about their past lives
Right, the ghost chooses who they grant the light to?
the ghost brought back chris-chan and there was nothing we could do š
ghosts arent immortal
theres a list somewhere on everything that can kill one
Yesn't
It's complicated

Maybe it was Destiny that the Traveler chose Humanity; maybe it's Destiny that we are the ones who most successfully fight against the Hive and the Witness' forces; maybe it's coincidence, maybe it's Fate, maybe it's what we make it for ourselves
maybe it's maybelline
Regardless, the central theme is being about what we do with the power we're given, questioning how much we deserve it and whether all that should define if we should help others or not
Destiny is given to us and is up to us to determine
i mean getting the light is the reason they have been the most successful against the Hive and co. you see what happens when they lose it, everything is fucked
Well, there was one time that the Light was used before us; there was the Gift Mast which a weapon that the Traveler blessed a coalition of aliens that successfully repelled the Hive until Oryx killed his sisters, Xivu Arath and Savathun (also coincidentally leading to the discovery of Throneworlds), and got a boost in Ascendent Power which allowed him to destroy the Gift Mast and genocide more alien species
seems more like how OP our character is specifically than the overall strength of humanity. you're the one doing 99.9% of the work
It's extremely important that the Traveler could have equally chosen any other species, maybe even the Eliksni; it is only coincidence that we were chosen, and we need to take this random chance we were given and use it to protect existence
yeah
Technically Osiris at his peak would've been more powerful, also probably Saint-14 considering his Vex kill count; like Mael has said before, it's mostly us being at the right place at the right time, and then we just generally became a reliable operative
We could send a whole army of Guardians but the last time that happened, Crota broke open the Moon and killed basically all of them, which is why we operate on the Strike system
i bet there are some people in this server who have killed more Vex than Saint-14
was he lightless the whole time? i thought he was just lightless right before he died
For a significant portion of time before he died
he was killing the vex over and over, until they drained the light from him and he died soon after
Yes, because he missed his boyfriend Osiris
fair tbh
It's a bit more signidicant than that but essentially yeah
Ever since I found this Easter Egg, I've wanted to get in the vault. I finally did. Its a good shotgun, too.

Who was dredgen yorās ghost?
I believe Dredgen Yor's Ghost was named "Vincent"
and as of currently, he is still alive
Yeppers
And an acquaintance of Shin. I do wonder how that relationship goes, though.
For all the harm that Yor did, Vincent was still his Ghost. There's a connection there whether he wants it or not.
given how Vincent's last conversation with Yor went, he was probably glad someone stopped his madness
though yeah he did still care for Rezyl
hey, i'm new to Destiny and trying to catch up. i've watched a youtube video for the lore up until Destiny 2, i know the campaign is missing but there is still some content that is playable. afaik only the strikes. so i've done the 2 EDZ strikes now, what's next? did we travel to nessus in the red war?
Gimme a sec to turn my computer on and make a cuppa tea and I'll be right with you
alrighty, so
Firstly, you may be interested in this: https://youtu.be/WAw1g2tHN3s?si=OvxHWj6BW6uDRcUs
This includes the cutscenes, important bits of missions, Adventures, and so on.
Keep in mind it was recorded during Season of Arrivals, and due the manner in which the cutscenes are rendered, there are Pyramids in some of the skies where there should be none.
The lore collection kicks off with the beginning of Destiny 2 The Red War. This is a collection of all the story beats that happened during the Red War Campaign in Destiny 2. Join as the Cabal invade the tower, led by Ghaul, and take all the guardians light. This kicks off the story of Destiny 2 and also includes the soon to be deleted adventure...
That said: Yes! After we escaped the Last City and were taken to the Farm by Hawthorne, recovered our Light at the Shard of the Traveler, and helped out the refugees at the Farm for a bit, we did next head to Nessus, in an attempt to find Cayde-6, who himself went there to find a Vex teleporter with which he may assassinate Dominus Ghaul.
great! is there something like that for destiny 1 too? i just watched a lore summary
For shorter, bite sized summaries of Destiny from D1 up to D2's Season of the Lost (directly prior to Witch Queen), you can use this
https://www.previouslyondestiny.com
For actual videos, you can simply put "destiny 1 all cutscenes" into YouTube. Depending on how through you want them to be, you've got four options right away.
We here would also be happy to help out with more specific questions or explanations, too.
There are a fair few knowledgeable regulars here, such as Dova and myself and others who can help.
nice gonna check everything out, thank you very much and if i have any questions i'll ask here :)
btw is there any playable d1 story content in d2?
not unless you count raids and some of the New Light stuff
There's two reprised raids and strikes iirc, think that's it
There's also a cosmodrome strike that's just a remastered omnigul
what raids (probably not doable until i have good gear and stuff, right?) and what strikes?
Crotas end, vault of glass and kingsfall, that's 3, not 2
Oops
The Devil's lair and fallen saber
okay ty :)
Also, raids nowadays aren't so difficult in terms of enemy difficulty, though mechanical difficulty is a much more present thing
Watch a guide, get a sherpa (basically a teacher)
wait so all 3 raids that exist are from destiny 1 lore wise?
They're all raids we canonically do in destiny 1 once, any other repeats aren't canon
So the reprised raids are not canon
but i understood that correct, there are only 3 raids in destiny 2? and none of them are completely new raids?
No, there's definitely more than that
Vault of Glass, Crota's End, King's Fall, from D1
From D2, you've got Last Wish, Garden of Salvation, Deep Stone Crypt, Root of Nightmares
and uuh
whatchacallit
Vow of the Disciple
ah got a perfect list for all strikes, dungeons and raids from destinypedia :)
While Destinypedia will be good for that, keep in mind that Destinypedia is...

Unreliable
is it?
Like any of these public Wikis, it can be altered, and the accuracy can depend on the editor and their interpretations.
This can lead to misinformation
oh yea it looks outdated, when i check power levels for example
or maybe it is the power level of when it got released, idk
Actually that does look updated
But nonetheless, grain of salt
okay :)
the game does not lead you into those strikes like "The Devil's Lair" for example? it's just that the game shows you strikes exist with the "New Light" questline and that's it?
The Devil's Lair Strike has been reused a couple of times here and there but it's a D1 Strike that was reprised for D2
Featuring the now disbanded House of Devils
Hence the name
and are those destiny 2 strikes that are non-canon remasters from the d1 version, vastly different to the d1 version? or is the story the same?
The story is generally identical under most circumstances. Devil's Lair was reused canonically in D2 on occasion but if you're just running it in the Playlist then you're doing it as a "D1 story" piece.
Strikes are "snapshots in time". They had relevant story at the time of release, but that may make less sense the further the story progresses.
got ya
For example, one of them involves fighting the Cabal Ascendancy, Caiatl's troops, and challenging her champion.
This lead to our ceasefire, which in turn has now lead to our alliance.
However, that Strike/Battleground is still playable.
I had no idea that was in Destiny 2. I was hit from a massive wave of nostalgia when I stumbled into it randomly in a vanguard mission.
It was returned when Beyond Light launched, if I recall.
That makes sense, Beyond Light seems to be the Fallen Expansion.
House Salvation to be precise, yes.
okay so i've watched the main game part of https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DbgCpGbJAEY, and played "The Devil's Lair" myself.
now i need to know, is there a good reason why the video doesn't include "The Summoning Pits", "The Nexus", "Winter's Run", "Cerberus Vae III" and "Dust Palace" strikes? (https://www.destinypedia.com/Strike) and neither the "Vault of Glass" Raid? (https://www.destinypedia.com/Raid)
since it didn't look like anything got skipped when i watched, are those all just side missions not relevant to the main story?
Why did the guardians go underwater? And whatās with the fishing? Is it in anyway related to Svathuns beginning story of a big fish whispering to her from under the water?
Season of the deep?
Itās deep sea themed so thereās fishing
We went underwater to help big fish and sloane
Wait around for 15 minutes and I'll be with you
You too, @bronze stone
But.. why?
Shortly before Season of the Deep, our attempts to enter the portal on the Traveler ended fatally for the one who tried. We had also received a hint from a āVex Mindā on Neomuna of an enemy of the Witness hiding on Titan. Suddenly, Titan returns to the Solar System after having been taken by the Witness all these years. Along with it, a distress call from Deputy Commander Sloane
so the strikes i just checked and yes they are all just side missions not relevant for the main story. but i didn't check the raid yet and i would be very surprised if that isn't a major event, atleast that's what i assume from a raid.
The distress call was coming from beneath Titanās sea, so we use some tech from Drifter to delve into the depths to pursue it. We finally find Sloane along with the proto-worm Ahsa beneath the sea
So we went underwater to help someone? What happened to the worm?
They chillin out there in the sea
Throughout the season we collected Egregore in order to allow Ahsa to psychically communicate with us through Sloane. This was so that Ahsa could reveal to us what she knew about how to get through the portal
We had to defend Ahsa from Xivuās forces too, successfully though. Ahsa remains on Titan still
During Season of the Witch, she actually acted as Erisā worm, holding the power for Eris that she received in tithes
With Raids, it generally is, yes. Vault of Glass is a bit of an exception. It was, after all, the very first Raid Destiny ever did.
The Vault of Glass is a deep Vex installation embedded in Venus. Within its walls, the Vex of the Hezen Protective had utter ontological control over everything inside. Atheon and the Oracles and Gorgons of the Vault could, quite literally, erase you from time and existence itself, leaving no trace that you ever even existed - even wiping you from memory.
is it possible for me to play it as a new player without preperation? i'm not a bad player and have a decent exotic main weapon
Well, yes and no. I'll explain.
If you get a good Raid team who are willing to Sherpa (teach) you, then yes. I recommend grabbing a decent Heavy weapon for DPS. Then you can join that team and go raiding. Vault of Glass is a good, though not the most exciting, beginner Raid.
The Vault of Glass was a rumour of legendary status. We only knew about its nature due to the sole surviving person of a Fireteam who entered. Pahanin escaped the Vault of Glass, and told the tale of Kabr, the Legionless, who sacrificed his Light and life to create the Aegis, a relic of the Light.
There was also Praedyth, who was killed/captured/simulated/imprisoned by the Vex. His body dead, but still stuck within the Vex network.
It's very much a side story. The Vault was a thing of incredible, albiet localised, power. However, it didn't and still doesn't affect the overall story of Destiny, unlike most modern Raids that followed it.
Half of the Leviathan Raids notwithstanding that generalisation...
okay, thanks for the detailed explanation <3
Happy to help!
Deputy Commander Sloane! Ah, she was a stalwart ally, and close friend to Commander Zavala. It's good to have her back.
And yes, we went to find and help Ahsa, after Sloane explained who and what Ahsa was.
Ahsa is why we know the origin of the Witness. She told us through a psychic link to Sloane.
Oh, also

ty, however i decided to watch it online, because i would have to skip "Crota's End" anyways (because of power level), and i rather do the raids later on when i have more unlocked in the game.
still useful tho
To be fair, the raids released a while ago are at 1600, Vault of Glass included.
yea but crota's end isn't and lore wise it would come next, so i would need to skip it for a while which sucks a bit
nvm i changed my mind ^^ gonna look for a sherpa for VoG
Have fun!
In addition to the raids that are available, content from Shadowkeep, Beyond Light, Witch Queen, and Lightfall are all available, which includes each expansionās respective campaign, raids, and dungeons
Red War, Forsaken, and all seasonal content prior to Lightfallās release year has been removed from D2 (as well as some select raids); otherwise thereās plenty of content provided youāre willing to get some of the expansion bundles

Wait what
This is correct Zavala: NavƓta is no more... and you have continued to impress us with your ongoing successes, Guardian. With help from Guardians like you, we have come to a greater understanding of the truth. The Darkness is not what we first assumed. Like the Light, it is a powerful tool of paracausal energy. Despite my earlier misgivings, we have learned how to harness it to help humanity... just as our enemies have found way to wield the Light against us. What we once thought was the Darkness, the vile entity responsible for our great Collapse, is now known to us as... the Witness. For the first time in hundreds of years, the Traveler left the Last City to directly confront it in Earth's orbit and the Vanguard needs you now more than ever. Veiled statue
Unknown still what precisely it represents
We see them around a lot associated with the Witness
Ah ok
First appeared in the Lunar Pyramid. I believe there was also one in the Garden of Salvation raid
The Europa Pyramid one ofc. One in the Deep Stone Crypt too
I either don't remember what you said, or didn't read it in the first place so it's all good.
It wasnāt you, it was someone else who I exploded on about them saying ānerdā in chat
yea and strikes from older content are there too, somehow everyone forgets about telling me that :D but thank you anyways. i have all the DLC's already and am slowly catching up :) the story in Destiny is very good! love it.
we tend to mostly see them as a means of the Witness granting power or something of the sort to someone
like Clarity Control
or the veiled statues that gave us Stasis/Deepsight
Well I mean, you are eventually going to have to go into the Strikes playlist as bounties are key to grinding up Light level, and the idiosyncrasies of the Strikesā chronological placement on the timeline will be apparent
Also that you do Strikes as part of the campaigns
what is this
An artifact given to us by the Witness
Do we know what it is
Iirc it called out to a signal within the Black Garden (or something in the Garden called to it and we traced it) and Eris Morn was also able to transcribe the Unveiling texts from it
Ah ok
Short transcript for Ishtar Collective.
Eris Morn: "They take us for fools. The artifact you brought back from the Pyramid began emitting a signal. One that reaches deep into... the Black Garden. Once again, we are beckoned into their trap. They expect us to follow the signal. To discover where it leads. Fine. We will play their games. But this...
the summoning key! jk
yea but there are many strikes that are not part of the campaign. or rather part of vaulted campaigns.
Hey - i was just wondering, since iām farming prophecy rn⦠why is that person at the end, after kell echo is dead, so huge? Is there a reason for that?
Just funky stuff since weāre in the realm of the Nine
She doesnāt always appear that way
Why drifter call eris moondust?
Because of her association with the moon
Interesting
Also ācause one time she visited him and tracked in moondust on her boots iirc
So does eris call drifter rat?
She does
Used to be scathing but as theyāve grown closer its meant more affectionately now
Read the lore tab of the season pass sparrow to see how far their relationship has developed

Was it the season pass sparrow or the one for resetting rank?
Uh Nostos or something along those lines
Gloaming Journeyer is the one with the Eris/Drifter lore
Nostos is Eramis resolving to reunite with Athrys
Eramisā wife; she left before the whole House Salvation thing, maybe even before the Eliksniās arrival in the Sol System
Eramisā partner
I could be mistaken on that last part but still, she had left a while ago, partially due to Eramisā obsession with revenge against the Traveler for abandoning the Eliksni when the Witnessā forces came upon their home planet Riis
Variksā reaction to it seems to suggest it was more recent
Oh wait
Thatās Namraskās reaction to Variks telling him
"Athrys is gone?" Woeful news; she was Eramis's guiding glint.```
Yeah, that does feel like it was more recent than before entering the system
Why did the Vex try to stop the Traveler from healing in Destiny 1?
They built the Black Heart on the Witnessā instructions iirc
But also they stand to gain from the Traveler being weakened
Oh. The Vex are servants of the Witness?
Also, the Black Heart was a means of acquiring power and furthering their goals towards Convergence. I also have reason to believe it powered the Vault of Glass.
Someone on here said the Vex don't really use the Darkness, so I thought they were a separate thing.
The Sol Divisive follow the Witness, to an extent, as a means to acquire paracausal power if they can
In order to further the general Vex goal
The Vex cannot predict or understand paracausality. It's why an external source of it like the Black Heart was valuable. They learned to worship it, and in turn, it granted them power.
Okay, so it was more like a temporary alliance of convenience.
Essentially, yes. For the Sol Divisive Vex, their alliance and worship is a means to an end.
It is not devotion. It is practical.
I got the impression that the Vex were on a Borg-like path to turn all things into Vex.
Not just people though, all of reality.
Something like that, yes. That's basically what Convergence is. It is, in a way, their version of a Final Shape.
I was reading about how they invaded Oryx's home. That would make sense then, they were trying to gain his ability to Take things.
Well, not quite. Savathƻn tricked Crota into cutting a way into their domain.
He accidentally opened the gates to an army.
The Vex simply took that opportunity and ran with it
They didn't do very well with that. Quria couldn't simulate Oryx, and the Vex worship directed at the Worms was not enough for that level of power even if they understood how.
Which, they didn't.
More so that, Throneworlds are a result and the home of Ascendent Hive, whom are Paracausally charged by their Worms and the tribute (death) they feed them, so it would be prudent for the Vex to assimilate and study them so as to gain an understanding of Paracausality; coincidentally the Vex Network occupies a similar āplaneā as the Ascendent Realm - where Throneworlds lie - so Crotaās opening into their domain was fairly lucky for them
Going back to this, however, Paracausality is inherently dependent on an individualās belief, which means even though they are able to simulate worship to a paracausal artifact like the Black Heart to gain some Paracausality, it will never be as much as any being that thinks more conventionally, that thinks in symbolism and not literally like the Vex do via their simulations
Itās why Sol Divisive has been complicit in the Witnessā schemes, as it is literally their dealer in Paracausality
Is it explained how humans had colonized Neptune (a planet that doesn't have a solid surface...?) and created an advanced civilization without anyone noticing?
Autocorrect I swear
they hijacked and hid themselves under vex cover
Humanity was incredibly advanced during the golden age
you can imagine a group of them being untouched for over a thousand years would leave them in good shape
A combination of our own records of the Exodus Indigo - the colony ship which established Neomuna - being scrubbed and also Savathun hiding the Veil on Neptune, which coincidentally helped them advance enough to cloak the selves
everything part of a standard colonization ship was with them, along with some of the brightest minds of the golden age (Ishtar leaders)
really all they needed was to build support structures and they were golden
Dustin Hoffman and Warren Beatty?
I donāt know any of these names you keep saying
To elaborate on that second part, Clovis Bray and Ishtar Collective collaborated to make a wholly original AI based on research developing the Rasputin AI as well as research on the Vex; their combined efforts produced the Soteria AI and was being taught by Rasputin how to be sentient, when she detected the Pyramid ships right outside of the solar system. In response, she launched one of the Exodus colony ships - Exodus Indigo - which then landed on Neptune. Because this was not sanctioned by Clovis Bray, the Soteria AI was shattered before it could launch any further colony ships, and essentially all records of the event were erased
And then at some point, Savathun hid the Veil on Neptune, which went on to be discovered by the Ishtar members and studied; this probably assisted in cloaking the colony as their establishment was right as the Collapse began to unfold
dw just another dumb joke
from an old reference no one cares about anymore
I have completed Beyond Light. The stuff about coming to terms with taking on Darkness and learning about the Exo Stranger's past was cool.
I expected more resistance to the idea from the Vanguard.
But ig when you've saved all of humanity like a hundred times over people just kinda follow along with whatever you decide.
whole point of BL was to establish that the Darkness is not inherently evil
yes I know
like how WQ shows that the Light is not inherently good
That doesn't mean everyone's suddenly gonna become cool with harnessing a force they've been fighting against for centuries
well, to be fair, there was an entire overarching storyline that went on throughout Y2 with the end goal being to pave the way for the next generation of Guardians who will be able to wield both Light and Dark
it should've involved more input from the other members of the Vanguard
instead of just zavala
would have liked to have heard what Ikora, Eris, etc had to say about using Stasis
Ikora was cautious, but willing to hear it out
Eris already had Stasis long before us
and neither of them show up in the campaign
Eris does though
Ikora, while not directly involved, we do get some input from her later on
meh
after her opinion on the matter is no longer relevant because you've already embraced the darkness
Anyway, now I'm doing Shadowkeep, and I finally understand what pyramid they were talking about in Beyond Light.
There was going to be more, but this was mid-Covid.
This definitely isn't true, though
Just look at, say, Aunor Mahal or Shayura.
So when people go fishing, whatās does that do? (In terms of the story development)
affect the trout population

Fishing wasn't really part of the "story", per se.
We just, uh, found a rod and tackle and went fishing.
yeah exactly
so it's a shame that all we get from the vanguard is some moderate concern from zavala
He was much more vehemently opposed to its usage, with cautious sanction for its use
A good read for the somewhat turning point in opinion against Stasis is when Shayu- hold on
@trim grotto wasnāt it Aisha who used Stasis? Shayura was opposed to it to the point of going serial killer after seeing Hive Light bearers
Beyond Light definitely suffered from Covid. Some things weren't as fully fleshed out as they were meant to be.
Correct. The betrayal point was Aisha using Stasis (which Shayura didn't know she had) to stop Shayura from killing a Ghost in Trials.
And no no
hang on
Ye ok I had to double-take
Shayura gave herself up after seeing Hive Lightbearers
Ah ok
She realised she fucked up, very, very badly.
wasn't directly after seeing them of course
Because Light no longer meant "good"
And thus Dark no longer meant "bad"
And she realised she'd slaughtered dozens of innocents
Aight coolio
she had a whole psychotic break in the middle of a Last City park and when she was confronted by Aisha and Reed (along with the fuzz) she surrendered
So far Witch Queen has been easily the best of these expansions tbh. Not done with Shadowkeep yet though
Yes, the campaign model and quality of Witch Queen was a bit of a revolution, gameplay wise.
Though, ironically, lore aficionados already knew one of the big "plot twists" and had done since The Taken King in D1.
Continuing this, Aisha used Stasis to disperse a crowd of City citizens from ganging up on a frazzled Eliksni whoād wandered the streets; while she succeeded in de-escalating the crowd, unfortunately the Eliksni had ran away in fear of the Stasis use and then died later due to a bad actor.
This was also during the Cityās time under the Darkest Night, where the Vex were running a simulation over the Last City to prevent the Sun from shining and also made everyone act on their worse instincts, which was not great when House Light was moving in so that Misraaks, Kell of Light, could help us get rid of the Darkest Night
we all knew the Traveler wouldn't just attempt to wipe out an entire planet's ecosystem
It was laid on so heavily it was nearly explicit that the Worm Gods did it
Itās funny that weāve had a lot of big twists essentially be Bungie shouting āHEY THIS IS WHAT IS HAPPENING DONT TRY TO TWIST ITā
That's the only one so far where I felt like the story was told in a way that was as interesting as the lore behind it
Which is fair, some players are just. abysmal to convince of lore points that are spelt out before them
There's a resurgence of "Nezarec is Qugu" on Reddit again
Qugu is- wait no, thatās Jizu. Whoās Qugu?
Qugu are a race the Hive wiped out
The herd beast species who went extinct back in the Books of Sorrow who gave up their limbs for a symbiotic relationship as directed by an internal virus
and the Qugu also aligned with the Dark (but not the Witness)
sounds just like Nezarec
Nezarec has limbs though
yes, that was sarcasm
hard to tell though text anyways
this is true
I really do want to know what his backstory is
Iām guessing the theory is that Nezarec is this said-virus, maybe also adding in that in the wiping of their race from existence they accidentally underwent the same process as the Witness and became Nezarec?
the whole 7 different eyes thing implies he was some sort of chimera (at least according to concept art)
No. Just that Nezarec is a Qugu.
Take a gander
could Nezarec have been a direct creation of the Witness I wonder?
Ah, that was my comment link, not the post
Close enough
and Rhulk was given the task of making him into a disciple
maybe explains why Nezarec was trusted with the Veil
Thereās also the fact that Nezarec doesnāt seem to have a set physical form, as heās able to talk like heāll return after we kill him in RoN, which means his actual self might not be physical in nature, or at least not conventionally physical which might lend some credence to the sentient virusā>Nezzy theory; but also the Qugu are just herd animals, unless their intelligence was uplifted in some manner before or after by the Witness, it doesnāt feel like itād equate to Nezarec if you slaughter all bunch of space sheep and perform a Dark Magic ritual to meld their consciousnesses into one
I think the concept art design for him was more in line of his original form
To be fair the Qugu were a sentient spacefaring species
since it does line up pretty well with the statue of him as seen in the Witness' Pyramid
Is he a disjointed consciousness capable of transferring his self into different bodies, shells for him to manipulate? Is he some paracausally-charged viral agent who affects the same type of interaction via biological processes? Thereās nothing concrete, so while the theory is interesting, it doesnāt have much to stand in with the inherent vagueness of Nezarecās lore
Considering the existence of Egregore and the specification of them being connected via a shared virus which influenced them, I can see coincidental connection, but it could just be exactly that: coincidence
Kinda like Caital and UmunāArath
I'm... not sure it's the virus connecting them.
And the Leviathans
One moment.
Eeeee ok nice, thatās why itās important for citation, something I need to work on
https://www.ishtar-collective.net/cards/xxiii-fire-without-fuel
https://www.ishtar-collective.net/entries/the-art-of-symbiosis
Welcome to the entirety of the lore about Qugu
It's just these two
probably more than what we got on Midha, Consort of Stars
Bungie drops such a hard name and refused to build on it
Mmm, itās a hard call with what we have, but youāre right, it doesnāt really insinuate that the virus connects them
Yet the nectar which induces their visions - which Savathun utilizes - is processed from eggs created in Qugu limbs by the virus (which is a weird thing because viruses donāt really make eggs, they are the eggs and insert themselves into productive cells so that theyāre rewritten to produce more virus; if itās in reference to pustules and stuff like that, thatās an autoimmune response to physically isolate infectious material in a literal flesh bubble.) but also it could be the Jaw Beasts which are causing this change in the cells
I feel like the virus angle is a way to connect to Egregore considering the kinda-sorta-not-really-but-a-little-bit similarities spores and viruses share; but thatās going deep into the Spinfoil, which seems more close to when Seth just coincidentally had Hive sounding names for two important Cabal characters
But that second one is from Inspiral, meaning they must have read the virus part of the first entry, but also still couldāve just been coincidence
We can only see whenever Bungie elaborates on Nezzy or the Qugu
could it have been the virusā consciousness that got raised into Nezarec by the Witness after itās only host got eradicated hmmmmmmm
i know we have like, no information about skimmers, but are they connected to the cloudstriders?

Not particularly.
They just... skim microdiamonds.
i want a cloudstrider board and i want it NOW
We havenāt even gotten to Guardian Games yet and thatās when the first board ever in this game is going to release
Be patient
patience is not in my blood
i would settle for sparrows that don't drive like they're underwater
in the future, our vehicles will actually turn worse than cars we have now
So what you're saying is Savathun's "magic" is actually just really gross alien...stuff?
No.
The jaw beast necter was a very specific case from a now extinct species from centuries ago.
I don't know where Sav comes into it
Which is to say, she doesn't
Ok, but there's still nothing against the possibility that Savathun's "magic" is just really advanced alien insect pheromones/spores/etc.
There is a lot against that "possibility"
Eris regularly uses hive magic
Overwhelming amounts against it
aside from replacement eyes, she's a completely normal human
she can use hive spells just the same
it's just magic
Does hive magic have lore or is it just "this group of aliens has its own magic because why not"
It has a lot of lore.
the entire backstory of the hive revolves around them being deceived by the witness and falling to the darkness
so
yeah
Oh
It was thoroughly explored in Witch Queen, too
So that's why I don't know about it
you really don't need WQ at all to know about this
WQ only elaborated on one specific part
that being the witness was responsible
But it does explain why Savathun's Throne World is imbued with Light (she wants it).
it was fairly clear all along the worm gods tricked them into taking the pact
you can just get it from the trailer
I didn't play Destiny 1.
they have ghosts now
none of it is from playing D1
It was imbued with the Light after she got the Light
D1 didn't have lore tabs ingame, it had a system called grimoire
And because there was no other way for her to maintain her collapsing Throne World otherwise
well obviously she wanted it
her entire plan revolved around it
the thing is her ghost Immaru was in on it all along and the two planned it
When she wanted the Light, her Throne was maintained by Darkness from her worm. We exorcised her worm, she died and her Throne began to collapse
No, I mean because of the whole "throne worlds are shaped by their owner's desires" thing
She was resurrected in the Light and then created the Wellspring to maintain her Throne
that's not really relevant
Not in that way.
So Ghost is an unreliable source of information-
when savathun died the first time without her worm, the throne world was just collapsing
What?
Savathun has a separate resevoir of pure light she's harvested over the years called the Wellspring
it could never let her do what guardians do, but it helps maintain the throne world's form now that it's not a proper one
I was basing this solely on what Ghost said that Petra(?) had said about throne worlds (I think he implied the reason the Throne World was imbued with Light is because Savathun desired it).
Throne Worlds, generally, are pockets of stability within the Ascendant Plane of Darkness. They are formed when an Ascendant Hive grows powerful enough to force their will upon the world. This power comes from the Worm Parasite, which is fuelled by Darkness.
One cannot simply "want Light" and have this opposite force appear.
petra isn't involved in WQ at all
This quote right?
Ah, those things.
keep in mind for some reason 7/8s of the campaign pretends we have no idea how savathun is back
this is ghost just guessing
and he's wrong
Savathun's throne world is imbued with light because she rebuilt it with light
Ah, it was Eris, not Petra.
No, he isn't wrong. But there's more to it.
When Savathƻn was resurrected and gained the Light, she used that power and the power of the Wellspring, along with her connection to the Throne World, to begin to reforge it all, sweeping across the landscape.
But this was only possible after gaining control of Light.
Is that why there's a lot of plants in there or was it always like that?
You may have noticed two distinct aesthetics in the Throne.
Old vs new. Original vs reformed.
The Throne is not completely and utterly remade, and those outer areas are still as they were.
Oh, so the swamp is the old part?
Part of it, yes.
also the underground parts that was designed to resemble hell
And the candle-like things are the new?
The whole white castle Lucent aesthetic is new
all of the bright crystal structures are new
Looks like a mix of candle wick and salt crystals to me
How does the wildlife in the Throne World work?
Does Savathƻn import animals or are they all fabricated thought-animals
possibly just things savathun had a passing interest in and collected
There's wildlife?
might as well if you're banking on your throne world being the only surviving piece of the normal universe
like "oh well i should save those disgusting mollusk things, those guys are great"
The what-
To be fair, when you look like this, you might consider those things to be cute.
Why does she move like Ultron?
she's currently bleeding out from a stab wound to her abdomen
That doesn't explain it
That's just... what Hive look like
Ok, now, why is the MIDA Multitool so....boring? Like, out of the countless functions it supposedly has, they only let us use like 3.

because it's mostly just a joke and a reference to marathon
I mean, they're functions not many weapons have, but still
Is there a weapon that has some sort of random effect?
As in, gameplay wise?
Yeah
no
would be horribly unbalanced or just completely useless
closest thing was D1 hawkmoon which was just awful
What did it do?
instead of building up to the high power shot, it was just one random shot in the magazine
you had zero control over it
worthless
I mean, the point of having something with random effects is putting something that would normally be considered too powerful but balancing it out with RNG.
if you want to talk about that just look at any TF2 video about the mechanic of random crits
i don't really want to talk about anything like that right now
i'm going to get breakfast
I did something like that in a character I'm making for Rivals of Aether. That character can have a lot of different buffs but you can't choose which one you get.
Ok
Honestly, a weapon that shoots a random type of damage (with each damage time having a different effect on the target) each time would be fine.
If it actually applied effects, then that'd be a bit concerning. Particularly for PvP, which is why Hawkmoon was changed on its reprisal.
I mean, doesn't have to be the elements' signature effects.
Better to have a weapon where you earn the buff and it feels rewarding than an unrewarding random weapon
Unrewarding in that if you donāt get the shot, it feels annoying for you. And if an enemy gets hit by the random one shot, itās annoying for them
Making an enemy be suppressed, burned, frozen, electrified, [whatever Strand does] all at the same time is a little overkill.
Whereas when you have to earn the one shot, itās better all around
Huh, so Hawkmoon can drop with different perks or is that possible in all exotics?
What's DMT?
Only select exotics have multiple perks to choose from. The rest are all craftable ones. Hawkmoon is the lone one remaining where itās still random on XĆ»rās rotation
Imagine an exotic for which the only unique thing is that all of the random (non-exclusive) perks that weapons can drop with are available to be selected (as in, the ones that have a more unique effect, not the ones that simply change stats).
A lore-accurate MIDA would probably have been like this.
Anyways, is there a reason why Cloudstriders' armor covers everything except their chest (where their heart is) or is that just a bad design choice?
Cloud Strider armour varies drastically from person to person
Perhaps itās personal customisation. Perhaps thereās other reasons why they have areas of exposed skin
They are augmented super soldiers so theyāre going to be very tough
And Iād argue itās telling that theyāve successfully fought the Vex for centuries and none of them had perished in battle before
Cause who doesn't want to see nimbuses peks
Hive Magic existed prior to them discovering - and then consequently genociding - the Qugu
Thatās not what theyāre saying
i mean it's related
They were already responding to Mael debunking the Qugu thing
Their suggestion in that message was that Hive magic could still be a funky biology thing
The implication was that Savathun got her Darkness stuff from the Qugu sap, to which no, that wouldnāt be correct because she was using Darkness long before the Hive came upon the Qugu to begin with
Is lore chat questioning the existence of magic in the scifi game where we can pull out flaming hammers from thin air
Mothris do you know about the Qugu
Not at all, all I care about is cool space magic
Great
But nah, someone new to the lore saw the conversation about the Qugu earlier and thought that Savathun got her power from the sap their jaw beasts produced after chewing and processing their virus-riddled limbs
Again, Mael already debunked that for them, to which they then suggested it could still generally be something to do with advanced alien stuff or biology or whatever
do you guys know about sans

no from homestuck
no
My favorite Toa

Neat, thanks
question: what's the story behind Traveller's Chosen?
Was murmur a weapon of sorrow
Nothing overtly suggests as much. I wouldn't say so, just seems like the Hive trying out Fusion tech.
The gun itself, as opposed to the attached lore tab? Not much. The original sidearm was simply a city issue sidearm to Guardians. After it was damaged during the Red War, its apparently been repaired by Light. Whether that was from a Guardian or the Traveler is unclear.
I see ty
Another question - there isnāt much lore surrounding the first curse is there
From what I understand itās just a tex hc produced around the same time tlw was
humanity advanced enough to create a gun that shoots mini black holes
thats, at minimum, Type II civilization on the Kardashev scale
how do you lose
That's pretty much all there is to it, yeah.
Youāre aware the Black Fleet literally couldnāt be touched by weaponry at all right?

As I said, a great deal of plagues and natural disasters and shit
we get those all the time
Titan was stretched and had its entire ocean dropped back on itself
thats what they get for not wearing masks, i guess
Not on the immense scale the Black Fleet caused - this is common sense š
how immense was it
that america advanced so far they began making guns that shoot literal black holes

The fall isn't quick. It happens over weeks and months: cataclysmic disasters, natural and unnatural, flattening human settlements on every planet || that I have made, I have shaped, my work, laid flat ||. Earthquakes. Tidal waves. Solar flares. Cyclones, sinkholes, exploding lakes, wildfires. Unknown, untreatable plagues raze populations in hours. Water goes black with unknown poisons || forced down my throat ||. https://www.ishtar-collective.net/entries/asher-observation
We could not even touch the Pyramids.
ā
Man of science though he was, the first thing Asher Mir did was shoot the damned thing.
The Pyramid hovered inside Io's atmosphere, close enough to be impacted by a projectile flung at sufficient speed. In the time it took Asher to blink twice, he knew the angle of attack and the mass of the projectile.
Asher finished building the mounted rail...
She calls for radar data, a map of Titan's surface. And then she sees it.
Her moon is squashing.
Titan is deforming from a spheroid into an egg. Something out there is pulling on Titanāa hand with a force greater than Saturn's entire mass. And the moon is answering the only way it can, by bulging outward: already fifteen meters, still growing.
The pull will cause strain, tremors, tides. And when that pull lets go, there will be a wave to make Ziusudra and Atrahasis and Noah and Manu and Deucalion cower in fear. Bergelmir might have navigated a deluge of blood, but not even he had to sail on liquid methane.
Nor reckon with the apocalyptic tidal forces of a second ocean, fourteen times as vast as Earth's oceans combined, buried 50 kilometers below the surface.```
The Pyramids could control gravity itself.
It wasn't simply natural disasters
Not on that scale, in that form, in a shape we could use. It's irrelevant.
And the argument is a moot point either way, as we did lose.
because once you could do it on any scale, you can do it on any scale
The Black Fleet flawlessly defeated species far more advanced than us, both on a technological and paracausal scale.
Conventional weaponry, even that of black holes, is not useful.
They require a paracausal attack.
We simply did not have that.
That's why Mara was able to succeed where Golden Age humanity did not.
And even then, Mara could only destroy the one. It wasnāt a sustainable thing
And she died, too.
creating a black hole means spacetime manipulation
See what I mean about arguing instead of engaging?
You are focusing too much on Graviton Lance
speculating
Itās irrelevant
its lore relevant
It doesnāt mean what you think it means, clearly

who wins, madara or goku
It's still irrelevant to the war on Pyramids. It's impressive, but not paracausal.
Plus, of course, the observers who found Graviton Lance may simply have not understood how or why it worked, or misunderstood its function.
you dont do that?
No.
I don't even know who ot what madara is.
I don't care to, mind.
it says, in the text, it shoots black holes
A Guardian claims this
Yes, I'm... that's what I was referring to.
Iirc
oh, well shit that explains a lot
but why bungie add it at all then
if not to insinuate just that
it being void
Because itās a fun lore tab of some Guardians goofing around
If Graviton Lance was meant to be some super relevant, all-powerful weapon, it would be. But itās not
which im calling rigged
we could of had a gun that could shoot across the galaxy
gun also creates portals
but Elsie had to throw a hissy fit over her grandaddy issues
"rips a hole through spacetime"
also, if you're looking for anything on Guardians making singularities
"I speak for myself," Savin-who-was-Chao-Mu answered. "Behold!" And he drew forth from the quantum vacuum a shrieking singularity, which he held between his hands and then telescoped down into nothing.
hence the, how tf
Because thatās how this universe works
Thatās the level of power of the foes weāre dealing with
This isnāt a thing to argue about
Youāre just being stubborn about something irrelevant
lore relevant
No
hive propaganda
Graviton Lance is just one exotic gun out of many
Itās not important
Anyways, moving on from this exhausting convo
watch out yall, next hes gonna offer us salvation
I aināt a he
oh shit im doomed for sure
do i deserve infinite punishment for a finite mistake? probably, i do now
Dude just stop
She didn't melee it - like Eris has mentioned - it took her considerable effort on her part to explode a single Pyramid ship; Eris Morn was there as well, and relayed what happened to Hidden Agent Fenchurch. After the fact, Mara and Eris concluded that it just wouldn't be feasible to attempt the destruction of the Pyramid ships; this paired with the fact that the Awoken didn't even exist in the Golden Age, and there's no possible chance that Golden Age humanity could have done anything against the Pyramids
Additionally, Asher Mir has already done what you suggested: shooting the fucking thing
He noticed that any shots made at the Pyramid didn't do jack squat, so he launched a missile at the Pyramid ship that arrived on Io during the Season of Arrivals with a beacon to track where it traveled; he found that the missile signal still read at the position right before impact with the Pyramid, yet it didn't even hit the pyramid. From this, he - and thus we - concluded that the Pyramids are displacing any projectile attacks made against them
Also a tip @fresh zephyr, learn to read when someone is uncomfortable with your jokes, this ain't the first time and it's getting annoying

It should be common sense that people will not want to talk with you if you annoy them, maybe you should use some

Oooo I misgender someone and try to play it cool despite them being clearly uncomfortable with that
I find it incredible you accuse me about this when 1) before I pointed out your mistake, I answered reasons why Golden Age Humanity couldn't fight back against the Pyramid ships, and that it's not even possible now even with Mara's destruction of one, because even she admits that it is only a one-off and she can't do that to every single Pyramid ship lest she die, and 2) consistently you keep annoying the people answering your questions by ignoring what they say and continuing to suggest whatever you spew out your mouth is correct. Facts vs speculation?
Speculation would be me going crazy over the Qugu and Nezarec theory Mael introduced, it would be wondering what the Veil was prior to Lightfall release and how it related to the Winnower and/or the Witness, it'd be how the upcoming episodes being released will follow the various narratives left open by stuff we're dealing with now - Xivu Arath, Sol Divisive and the other Vex Collectives, Fikrul and him trying to uplift the Scorn into their own civilization
Speculation is not refusing to listen when people say that the possibility of attacking the Pyramid ships is not plausible even with the sole individual who has destroyed one and admits herself that it is not feasible in any sense without great sacrifice that would not be worth
But what do I know, I just talk in here too much
not everything needs to be an argument homie
Just search waltz or eris messages in here, should be every 4 pages

"I really don't care what risks you take," Mara's mother sighs. "That's the deal we made, my little yellow starā"
"Mom!" Mara protests.
"My discarded tube of sealant, my sweet little fleck of paintā"
Osana likes to compare Mara to small pestilent items that drift near spacecraft, like crystals of frozen urine. As far as Mara can tell, Osana is...
Bless, Mael, you are a savior

Marl lurking the entire time
I was going to deep dive for the entries which detail Fenchurch seeing Mara and Eris destroying a Pyramid ship as well as the consecutive CE entry which confirms it wasn't just Fenchurch making stuff up, but that guy is not worth educating
Also the Asher Mir entry where he launches those beacon rockets
Destiny 2's Lore and Story for Lightfall's new raid is pointing towards several possible scenarios. According to Bungie's latest page for the raid, a Haunting presence ferried through time and space will be what we're facing. That could mean any number of things from Nezarec to the Nine to the Vex.
