after defeating Atraks, we make our way across the Morningstar to stop Taniks from using the nuclear descent protocol to destroy Europa's surface

meanwhile the Crypt AI (aka Clovis AI) is reawakened and drops one hell of a monologue during the most beautiful part of any raid

we end up stopping Taniks and we face him for the last time after the Morningstar crashes on Europa

so now the DSC is left unprotected

And seeing as no one had been able to really get into the DSC in centuries, maybe even millennia, all the banks of mindscans are thoroughly outdated

The mindscans themselves are somewhat special, because the method Clovis particularly employed specifically ended in vaporization of the original biological body, which he chose because it had the greatest mindscan fidelity afterwards

There are less lethal methods, like what Maya Sundaresh employed or mentioned in on of the Veil Containment logs, but Clovis isa perfectionist and bastard like that

As for the statue, not only did it allow the Witness to influence Clovis, it also allowed him to cleanse Radiolaria of Vex and sterilize it so it would be open for another Conciousness to be placed into it; this material is called alkahest

Black Garden was a portion of the Vex Network accessible from… Venus, I was correct. It housed the Black Heart, an artifact of great Darkness that the Vex collective in the Black Garden - Sol Divisive - were harvesting paracausal energy from via simulations of other sentient beings worshiping the Black Heart. Because the Vex only have the weakness of Paracausality, This Is A Bad Thing, and so Queen Mara sent her brother and another guy to scout and reconnaissance the place. This was kinda bad because 1) Vex, obviously, and 2) the Black Heart had a naturally corrupting influence on sentient beings (this is explained later on as the Witness generally fucking with the paracausal force of Darkness to make it so)

Anyway, that’s the first portion. Second portion involves him fucking crash landing after Oryx’s Dreadnaught blasts him out of the sky. He crash lands on the Reef - old patrol destination - and is so crazed by the Black Heart corruption and literally falling from the sky that he kills other Awoken, which is big no-no. He gets jailed in the Prison of Elders along with a couple other dudes, including one Eliksni who he saw dying and wished wouldn’t perish. Riven granted this wish by creating Dark Ether, and this Eliksni arose as Fikrul, the Fanatic. He is also the only Scorn to really be fully sentient and also can never die - the strike where he threatens to return is canonically repeated.
