Main thing to know is there's a new expansion in 2 weeks and the Steam Summer Sale has started (so grab TFS and/or TFS Annual on the cheap). Otherwise, the new expansion is introducing a fairly massive rework of gear so I wouldn't recommend spending too much time hunting down non-exotic stuff.

A lot has changed and a lot more will be changing with the new DLC on July 15th.

Personally, I'd recommend doing three things to prepare for all the new systems.

1. Finish any campaigns and unlock all the subclasses you have access to on all the characters that you play.

2. Unlock as many Exotic weapons and armor that you can. For armor, you're no longer restricted to farming Lost Sectors to earn them. Instead, you can rank up Rahool in the Tower by opening Prime and Exotic engrams with him. At max rank, he'll let you unlock any Exotic armor that you want. His progress is cross-character, but it will reset on July 15th, so either unlock it quickly or ignore it entirely.

3. Unlock limited time weapons. If you have access to the Episodes, there are a fair few worth chasing now. You should be able to acquire them later, but they'll be much more tedious. There is also the free Rite of the Nine event (make sure to grab the free max (2020) armor) that has some nice weapons as well that will also go away with the new DLC.

So people are often running with incomplete info and just have to work with what they/others have found out

Mix in the fact everyone on your team has to be on their A-game for numerous hours with no idea as to what to expect for the next encounter, it's everything from a knowledge check to a team check to a skill check to an endurance check

We had a discussion about it yesterday if you want to go searching. I'm not going to claim to be an authority since I've only been able to participate in one Day 1 raid, but I have spoken with a lot of Day 1 raiders and watched a lot of Day 1 content.

A lot of it depends on how difficult the raid itself is, but world first tends to happen near the end of the first 24 hours. Subsequent teams that no longer have to come up with solves can begin to clear a bit faster, but just the execution can take up the remaining time with many teams giving up or not finishing after 48 hours.

You have to have the right mindset going into the Contest raid environment. From expansion release, you need to play through the Legendary campaign on ideally all 3 characters to get them up to raid power as quickly as possible, then grind out Pinnacles for the most advantage you can get. You'll want to have as much raid-viable weapons and armor as you can on standby so you can adapt to any puzzle, role, or strategy on the fly. Additionally, since the entire armor system is changing, you'll need to quickly figure out what is going to be strong for the raid and start collecting those pieces to possibly use. You'll want to start putting together builds you think might be strong in the raid environment, but leave them flexible enough to adjust if needed. You'll want to practice older raid mechanics in case any of them get reused so you are practiced.

And that's just in the days leading up to the raid. For the actual raid itself, you'll need to block out the 48 hour raid window because it's likely you'll need the whole thing. You'll need to sort out your food and sleep schedule since you'll want to take minimal breaks but also not be too tired/hungry to function. Playing consistently is extremely important, and fatigue is the number one consistency killer. And despite all the earlier prep work, you'll want to be well rested going into the raid so you're operating at your best.

The hardest thing is also finding 5 other teammates with the same mentality. It doesn't matter if you learn the mechanics and play perfectly, you won't clear if your teammates don't preform. If one of your teammates gets mad or tired and quits before it's done, you need to fill their spot which is a whole other layer of stress. They need to be committed to the same timeframe and have a similar drive to you. For some, that could be a completely blind solve trying to stay ahead of as many teams as they can. For others that simply want to clear in the 48 hours, it might involve frequent breaks while other teams figure out encounters so you can copy their strategies and just focus on execution.

Either way, there's a lot of work that goes into Day 1 raids. I joined super last minute last year with SE and had a bunch of fun even though we were nowhere close to finishing.

Yes, but they're still very good weapons and relevant at a variety of difficulties.

There are a lot of good weapons to chase. Personally, I'd recommend starting by filling out your Exotic weapons and armor as much as you can. In addition to opening Exotic Engrams, be sure to run Exotic missions like Zero Hour since the rewards (Outbreak Perfected in that case) are quite strong. Once you have a decent selection of Exotics, you can start the true grind hunting for Legendary god rolls.

Personally I'd recommend doing the following to get caught up:
Personally, I'd recommend doing three things to prepare for all the new systems.

1. Finish any campaigns and unlock all the subclasses you have access to on all the characters that you play.

2. Unlock as many Exotic weapons and armor that you can. For armor, you're no longer restricted to farming Lost Sectors to earn them. Instead, you can rank up Rahool in the Tower by opening Prime and Exotic engrams with him. At max rank, he'll let you unlock any Exotic armor that you want. His progress is cross-character, but it will reset on July 15th, so either unlock it quickly or ignore it entirely.

3. Unlock limited time weapons. If you have access to the Episodes, there are a fair few worth chasing now. You should be able to acquire them later, but they'll be much more tedious. There is also the free Rite of the Nine event (make sure to grab the free max (2020) armor) that has some nice weapons as well that will also go away with the new DLC.

The Cyno and Chill are good for raid/dungeon boss dps. Cyno is better if you're Prismatic or if your raid group is doing Gjallarhorn things. Chill is more all-around since you can still use it decently in neutral while also being effective for DPS.

That Watchful Eye roll isn't ideal, but LMGs are usually pretty nice in Nightfalls since they usually involve killing lots of adds.

Hunters have the least going for them in PVE, but are still regularly clearing all sorts of content. Still Hunt rotations are still soloing the Witness, Gifted Conviction has a ton of survivability, Combination Blow still works well.

There are a lot of changes coming to the sandbox, it'll be hard to say what will end up as meta, both for group and solo content, especially with the armor system changing so dramatically

The only thing I can think of is that not being teleported when walking through the portal is some kind of connection related bug

Echoes, Revenant, and Heresy, will be removed when the next expansion drops. Their loot will most likely be relegated to their Exotic missions, making them much slower to farm, but only requiring base TFS.

After the expansion drop the fate of where you get the seasonal guns from is unknown

Worst case theyll just go to the Xur loot loop which is already gigantic

While the current episodes are in the game the best way to farm them is the Episode 1 act 2 missions I believe

what would be the easiest dungeon to solo flawless? furthest i got is grasp and managed to get to final boss but its a bit difficult since i use most of my heavy ammo taking out the two minibosses and struggle on main dps

hunters are the simplest to understand from their basic kit, double jumping and a dodge comes naturally to many fps players. it can be hard to find groups simply because of how many people play hunter

whereas it may be more confusing to know when to plop down a rift or barricade
