It's an issue with your NAT type. There are three: Open, Moderate, and Strict. Strict means it'll likely be harder to play.

That's a personal call. Many players do that, but then you end up with the issue where your vault finally gets full and you have to do a big clean all at once. Some players find it easier to keep their vault small and delete as they go.

But while you don't have very many items, it can sometimes be worth hanging onto a "bad" roll rather than not having one at all, at least until you can get a better replacement

Depends on what you like to use and what other options you have access too.

Mountaintop is fairly unique to Onslaught, so I'd definitely make an effort to farm at least one decent one regardless of anything else.

If you don't have the Nightfall reward The Slammer, the Onslaught version of Falling Guillotine is one of the best Eager Edge swords in the game for Shatter/Well Skating. If you decide to farm for this, be sure to watch out for any DPS rolls like Frenzy + Bait and Switch since it is unique.

Midnight Coup is arguably the best Onslaught primary, but you don't need it if you have access to Fatebringer from the VoG raid.

Forbearance is a pretty sweet Waveframe GL, though the Onslaught version is a bit weaker than the Vow of the Disciple raid version due to the origin trait. Waveframes in general area bit weak at the moment with the addition of Rocket Sidearms and Area Denial GLs, but they still have their place and very well could become meta again. Ambitious Assassin + Chain Reaction is the common roll, but Demolitionist + Chain Reaction is the unique roll to this version of the gun.

The Recluse is one of the best SMGs in the game, especially since Destabalizing Rounds got buffed again. However, it's still just an SMG, so it's still relatively weak compared to other weapon types. If SMGs get buffed, this is one to look out for. Keep any Repulsor Brace / Enlightened Action + Destablizing Round rolls you get.

Edge Transit is still a very strong Heavy GL, but has been powercrept by others like Wicked Sister or VS Chill Inhibitor. Worth keeping any good rolls that drop, but I wouldn't go out of your way for it.

Hammerhead is an excellent LMG, but there are plenty of equally good alternatives. If you have any of the other good ones, I wouldn't bother farming for this, but obviously keep any good rolls you get.

Succession is a nice Sniper and has its uses, but you'd likely be better off with Praedyth's Revenge or The Supremecy raid snipers. Again, worth keeping any good rolls you happen to get, but not worth going out of your way for it.

The remaining primaries have their uses, but are largely inconsequential IMO, so I won't go into them. Farm them if they look cool, but I'd go for the other options I mentioned first.

I loved playing Titan when I first started playing, but ended up switching to mainly playing Warlock. I do enjoy playing Hunter on occasion, but it just doesn't hit the same for me. However, I have many friends that swear by Hunter and don't play anything else

All the classes are good at everything, but some of them have an edge in certain content. So I'm going to generalize a bit, but know there are tons of exceptions.

Hunters: Go crazy in PVP
Titans: Go crazy in GM Nightfalls
Warlocks: Go crazy in Raids

Again, all of them can do everything, but you'll notice the trend.

About classes in the current sandbox: [I CAN BE WRONG]

Hunter: Kinda mid in most content "currently". There’s no content where they’re a "must-have" xD. It’s painful for me to say that because I’m a Hunter main. That said, they’re not useless in any content either.

Titan: Currently the meta pick. Their Arc build is insanely strong and also boosts overall team DPS. [But no one stays meta forever.] Their builds are usually simple—most of the time, you’ll see the same 2 or 3 exotic armors being used over and over, so you don’t really have to worry much about exotic hunting with them. For example, the current meta exotics are Synthoceps, Cuirass of the Falling Star, etc.—all of which are around 4–5 years old already. And with how strong their Arc build is right now, even without an exotic, Titans are still top-tier in most content xD.

Warlock: The support class, essential in any hard content (some activities even require them). It’s not that they can’t do damage—actually, they can sometimes out-damage other classes—but you’ll often be forced to play support xD, especially if you’re the only Warlock in the team.
THEIR JUMP SUCKS [though that depends on who you ask—it can be either the best or the worst; for me, it’s the worst xD].

As I mentioned earlier, aside from Warlock (which is needed regardless of the meta), the meta always shifts.

About 1.5 years ago, Hunter used to be at the top of the charts too.

Even if your class isn’t meta, it doesn’t mean you can’t get things done.

For example, I used Hunter to complete the two most recent Contest Dungeons—where people usually expect a Titan or Warlock or you get kicked. At higher-end content, your skill in executing mechanics and doing DPS without dying is far more important than just being meta.

LFG usually asks for meta classes because it makes their life easier.

So... the most important thing is find a class that you realy like and master it

Sorry for the delay, but I wanted to answer your questions. As someone who played D2 at launch, quit for a while, then came back right before The Final Shape because my girlfriend wanted to play, I feel uniquely qualified to answer this haha.

My girlfriend loves a good story if it comes from a book or show, but doesn't enjoy following a narrative in games. She doesn't want to sit and watch cutscenes and pay attention to dialogue; for her it's a different mentality entirely. So when we started playing D2, she just wanted to hop in, explore and collect shinies. I took us to the different Patrol Zones so she could explore and look for the Region Chests on each planet. That got her familiar with the gameplay and helped satisfy her desire to get loot. Warming her up to the game this way got her open to trying the campaigns, which was a lot of fun. I had her take the lead and explore, then backed her up when we'd run into enemies.

Though she didn't care much for the overall narrative or the full character arcs, but she was somewhat interested in the immediate plot. By the time we finished the Witch Queen, she knew who most the characters were and which factions they belonged to. However, even if she had tried to understand it deeper, there was a lot of stuff missing I had to explain with outside knowledge. References to D1, the Red War, Calus, Cayde-6, and Osiris were the big ones. Even some more background stuff like the three sisters and the worm gods. At this point in D2's lifecycle, I think if someone is interested in the lore of Destiny, they should ignore the game and instead just watch recap videos, things make much more sense that way.

As far as the actual combat went, my girlfriend isn't usually into shooters, so I was doing a lot of the heavy lifting. It wasn't until she got a weapon she fell in love with (Arc Conductor Ergo Sum) that she started really enjoying combat encounters.

So I guess my advice is to not try and force a particular experience on her, but try and tailor it to highlight the aspects she shows interest in.

Separately, a lot of systems will be changing with the Edge of Fate DLC coming July 15th. Weapons will be getting a Tier system and armor will be getting a major overhaul, so if you or your girlfriend want to prepare for the next expansion, these are the most worthwhile things you can do:

1. Finish the campaigns and unlock all the subclasses + upgrades you have access to. A lot of content is gated behind the campaigns so it's good to get them out of the way now. Additionally, with so many of the changes effecting core areas of the game, we have no clue what subclasses will be good going into the next DLC. It's best to prep them all so you don't have to spend time doing it later.

2. Unlock as many Exotics as possible. Exotic armor will be upgraded to fit within the new armor system, so anything you get now will be usable later. These can sometimes be a bit of a grind, so again, knocking them out now means you can spend more time playing with them after the update.

3. Unlock any limited time weapons you have access to. While you should be able to acquire the seasonal weapons after the season ends, it'll be a much more tedious process. If you have access to any of them, I'd recommend getting what you want now. Similar, the Rite of the Nine event has some neat stuff, so make sure you grab those before they go away. This step is the least important, so don't fret if you can't get to it. Many of the new weapons coming will likely be the flavor of the month anyway haha.

Vog secret chests for the 60 weekly spoils, then there are a few other easy secret chests to get from Vow, KF, and SE. Should be able to get about 120 per week that way. After that, you gotta farm SE encounters. Pre-breaking Witness is pretty easy if a bit boring.
