I see it now that's crazy. I started a new game on Nightmare myself because I had been playing for so long with volatiles during the day and they never left the night areas either. I was going to try to finish it and I got all the way into the lower zone and all that but then I decided well I'm going to play it again anyway so I'll just start over now and play it on a higher difficulty.

When I first started I killed them from afar. I just kept throwing throwing knives at them. I was playing on normal so at the time I could even just use the throwing knives to headshot the fodder around him and then fight him as normal. So I went back and forth doing that.

I would pay attention to your level there on the top right of that screen. You're still what level 1 and you really won't see better weapons until you get to level two as that's when those start to drop. Also the zones have level ranges too which will become more apparent on hard than normal.

There should be a red building on the leftmost zone in the upper half that is where you chase down the chick with the arrows. If you just head south from there I think you'll be forced into the zone next to it which is a PK zone but right down there is where it's at like I think it's just in the PK zone all the way south.

I say red building but what I meant was the icon was red for me because I don't think you could do anything there for a bit. But it's south from there and you might have to go east a bit.

That would be hilarious. I'm glad you fixed it because my issue never fixed. I'm sort of happy it happened because now I kind of understand the game better and I'm playing on a difficulty that I feel is more suited to the game which is nightmare. Before I was afraid to turn the difficulty up even though most enemies were easy because I had volatiles everywhere no matter time of day.

I am usually that way myself these days. Too many games to experience and not enough time. But back in the day I was all about playing games on the hardest difficulty and getting better or basically forcing myself to get better.

I noticed on normal I wasn't using any of the features of the combat in this game. Now a nightmare I definitely am. I am vaulting enemies and drop kicking people. I am staying mobile and using all of the environment to my advantage.

It's actually pretty fun.
I just hope I can overcome some of the damaged sponge fodder later. I mean two groups of enemies and I've busted one of my weapons already.

Hell even if I hobble an infected I sometimes have to hit them and no joke six or seven times while they are on the ground and they seem to hit me harder from down there than when they're standing.

To the point I think it might actually not be intended. I mean I'll get hit by something standing up and it might take half of my health. But I have been full health and had one from the ground hit me and it kills me. It's almost funny.

I don't play online but I'm considering turning it on. I'm curious what the setting dynamic competition frequency is? By default it is set to off. All it says about it is determines how often the dynamic competition proposal will be displayed, when available.

Also the call for help feature, is this something like if I die it's going to call for help and people can choose to join my game or is it for when other people call for help and it will automatically make me join their game?

You need to press the button to make a distress call and when someone else is making a distress call it will be displayed on your screen/top right corner/if you want you can accept it by pressing a button and it will log you in that game

How about the dynamic competition frequency setting? I have no context for what it means. When I try to look it up on Google I just get some kind of help for setting a frequency for a quest in the game. Like a radio frequency which has nothing to do with this setting.

Yes you can set how often you will see it on your screen...dynamic competition is when someone join your game there will be small challenges that you can activate/like kill that much infected or biters or whos gonna come first to that point/things like that

I can tell you this, you need more than one playthrough to max out both.
I did see on the trophy guide that you can cheese it somehow by saving all of your inhibitors and when you have enough to max one out you use them all then revert your save and use them all on the other one.

I intend to play this more than once though.

so either something is using too much memory (motherboard) and causing it to do that or if hdmi sound is used, the memory on the graphics cards is maxed out because the card cannot cope with the load

Have you tried to verify your game files? Or sadly worst case reinstall the game? I'm not leaning towards this because sometimes you said it's fine sound wise. However there could be something odd on their end the way it works and that it's messing with the audio files before it produces them to you and maybe that specific thing doesn't always run so verifying the files could maybe fix that?

Also I don't have it on PC I have it on PS5 but I'm wondering if your audio is the same as mine where you can pick what kind of audio you're using in the game options?
Maybe try toggling that to different settings just to see what happens when the issue is occurring.

I do intend to get this for PC at some point because I am very much enjoying the game and that's what I usually do when I really like a game on console.

Something else I want to say is it is possible that you're running into a bottleneck of some kind because you're on a regular HDD. This could rear its head at random times due to the speed of the drive.
As a for instance, you may be at a particular part in a game where it's needing to pull from your hard drive a lot and if it tries to stream the audio into the same time those times maybe the time you are having issues.
Considering this is an open world game the entire map is not loaded in while you're playing they are likely doing some trickery while you're moving to load the next area in even though you didn't get a load screen. It could be that your files are getting corrupted as it's trying to do that and your hard drive is at capacity in terms of loading it into RAM and through the CPU.

I know others have said that they have HDDs and have no problem but not all HDDs are the same nor are all motherboards or connections.
It could very well be that your specific system has a little more trouble when lots of data needs to be pulled from the drive.

Again none of this may be the case but I thought I would throw a list of out there.

And sorry if this was already discussed because I didn't read the entire conversation.

I mean there are so many things this could be. When it caches The audio in order to play it back as you're playing that part could be corrupted and need to be redone. And again that could be a blanket reasoning or it also could be what I said before in that the times it needed to load that audio your HDD was slowed a bit due to everything else it was trying to produce.

When I built my latest PC I was having all sorts of issues and it took me three days of testing to figure out that my RAM had bad sectors.

Once I settled on the RAM I did overnight tests of it and concluded it was my RAM.

I do love PC gaming but I also very much enjoy the simplicity of a console.
These days I try to stay with a console mostly for some games and if I really like the game then I'll play it again on PC.

But yeah you can have some really tricky stuff to figure out what is wrong.

Hell one time my stepfather was having trouble with his computer and I tried everything to fix that stupid thing and all it turned out to be was a bad mouse.
Just plugging that mouse in was somehow screwing with the motherboard which was causing all sorts of weird problems you wouldn't associate with just having something plugged in.

best things to do in order:

try the post below about STEAM overlay performance monitor first to see what your system resources are doing before continuing with below steps. not everyone are pc geniuses, if you do not know what you are doing ask someone in your family that is a pc genius to do this for you or maybe a friend. I do not take responsibility if you mess up your machine if you do not know what you are doing, these are just some things i would do while trying to figure out what is going on with a system.

SOFTWARE

1. verify game files and test again
2. uninstall drivers, reinstall drivers obtained from manufacturer web site (not windows drivers) for the part that is giving issues, test again
3. uninstall any software that could interfere with the part that is giving issues. test again
   HARDWARE
4. unplug all additional devices from your pc apart from the ones you need like mouse, keyboard, speakers and monitor, test again
5. If you have spare parts, replace the part that is having the issue and see if it makes a difference, test again

if none of these worked then a more radical approach is needed
5. rebuild your OS from scratch and reinstall all drivers from manufacturer website, reinstall the game, this should fix and windows related issues and software related issues, test again

if the problem still exists after this then it is most likely a hardware issue and you either need to replace the part that is having the issues or buy a new pc

some parts you can do further testing, for example if your sound is giving problems and you are using onboard sound, try switching to hdmi output so that sound goes via hdmi (you will need to plug into a tv for this if your monitor does not have built in speakers, test again

Do you guys know if installing the same mod for tip and shaft causes the mod to be stronger when it goes off? Obviously they go off on crits so it's not going to cause it to go off more but I'm curious if it will do more damage when they do go off like extra electric damage or extra toxic?

if you are using STEAM on pc you can check what your system resources are doing during game play by enabling STEAM overlay and setting the following settings in steam, this will produce a little thin bar at the top of the screen that shows you your resources

the only thing that this does not show is HDD read/write

if any of those monitors max out at any point in time during game play when you experience stutters etc then you do not have enough system resources, most of the time this will be the GPU but could also be normal system memory

You shouldn't play it on that first IMO.
It is hard but doable however I suggest learning the game before trying it fully.
It removes a lot of HUD features and things that knowing beforehand would be better if that makes sense.
But I mean you do you.
I am playing it on Nightmare but I had already played through a bunch of the game before starting over.

The problem will be much of your night time will be very very very hard to navigate so you're upgrade will be slower. Knowing where to get your upgrades easy during the day would help a lot.

Maybe you could look at it this way is if you are going for trophies you need two full playthroughs anyway because there's not enough upgrade materials to get all the trophies in one playthrough. However there is a cheese for that but it involves needing to not upgrade your character until you have enough to upgrade both and then revert a save.

The problem with that is, I have to replay the whole game

kinda not really worth it is the quest takes do long because u have to climb that boring rank where it doesnt give much benefits to u

yet they allow your nightrunner tools while your gear locked up makes the given gear sometime obsolete because u can just pull enemy to spikes or fall from such high places

try see the objective what its want and try to look around the map whats left and whats not seen with the objective marker
