vsync is for a limited frame rate depending on your moniters set frame rate, it just makes sure that its limited so there won't be any possible screen tear, but its not always helpful because it gets laggy most of the time

I dont know if it adds more gpu usage (which is fine)

if the gpu usage is high, its a good thing (most of the time), because its actually putting the gpu to work, and give its full performance
