Kyle didn't physically change btw,the volatile arms seen at the end of the following were a hallucination,he was actually just in beast form but he couldn't control himself when the sun went down at first. It's proven in the in game animated cinematic that you can get by telling olivia what happened to you near enough to the start of the game in optional dialogue. He also definitely killed that mom and her 2 kids that he sees when he escapes the quarantine walls through the sewer. As we see him kneeling over their bikes and toys in a park during the "don't look back in anger" side quest

What’s weird about that was how the kids and the mother reacted to Kyle after looking at him. They all got scared and cowered together as the sun went down before their demise. Something tells me that before the Beast game ever existed, Kyle was supposed to be eventually transformed into a sentient volatile like The Mother.

The Beast kinda possibly changed it so it’s a hallucination now? But meh. I’d preferred if he had fully turned.

I assume he still had the black veins and maybe even the red eyes but also it's worth noting that how they treated being infected in the first game was much different than the beast,cause crane went into full hallucinations in the first game when he was getting close to turning before jade sacrificed herself to inject him with a big dose of antizen,we do literally see crane hallucinate the volatile hands tho in the beast through that cutscene I was talking about,they could probably tell he was infected from his behaviour,black veins,maybe he was covered in blood from the fight and so on

I would assume so. Judging by how Jasmine (The Mother) went through her transformation after being exposed to the dark and drinking the blue vial herself. It’s a weird coincidence. But probably the former as you said with Crane’s veins and blood/reddish-grey tone like a viral perhaps?

I have a hunch that it feels like it’s a bit retconned. The sentient volatile stuff was what I was rooting for a beloved character to return as for a depressing and dark outcome honestly.
