EVE is it's own thing really, does have a big learning curve. Though they offer a free limited account if you want to try it. I can help you get started in it though. Not the most exciting game but really in depth and can be fun.

No "professional" is bying that shit

#

that's primarily for the people who are gonna be spending like 10-30k a head anyways

shy eagle
#

Lot of companies rely on Final Cut Pro

golden gust
#

For the typical consumer much of this is stupid, when you're already spending that much on gear per head, a 1k stand is literally fuck all, especially if it works as nice as if not better than the alternatives

lilac moon
#

How much is the vesa mount

shy eagle
#

Also many producers are willing to buy the Mac Pro and Studio for Logic. The whole point of the rackmount version of the Mac Pro was for musicians

golden gust
#

Companies spending a 10-30k per head generally ain't gonna kill the experience with a shitty vesa mount

shy eagle
#

I think it comes with the mounting points, they expected people to use vesa mount rather than including the stand when some people will just put the stand in storage and let it collect dust

golden gust
#

what?

shy eagle
#

My last job doing IT support, we would have so many left over stands from the HP monitors we had, felt like such a waste throwing them in the trash.

#

Also VGA cables, I had no clue why they were still putting that in the box

worthy geode
#

my monitor stand was free. it stands on the desk.

rare python
shy eagle
#

We pretty much used display port on everything which was nice. I don't get why HDMI is so popular in the consumer market but enterprise stuff was all DP.

worthy geode
#

HDMI cables were cheaper iirc

rare python
#

Because HDMI is perfectly acceptable for most cases?

#

Although we should kill off both DP and HDMI in favour of USB

shy eagle
#

Think the audio thing as well, though HDMI costs money being copyrighted.

#

Thunderbolt ftw! lol

golden gust
#

Doesn't DP require active electronics in the cable, along with thunderbold?

worthy geode
#

my GPU only has one hdmi port so I kinda needed to use DP if I don't want to use some weird adapter that always breaks

shy eagle
#

DP does not do audio making it not as useful with TVs

golden gust
#

Yea, gotta pay if you want HDMI in your product but, same for DP I'd imagine

shy eagle
#

Thunderbolt does, I don't think normal DP does. DP is some open source standard I think.

golden gust
#

as soon as you get to active electronics in every single cable, HDMI is gonna be cheaper even once you get the chinese market to flood the place

worthy geode
#

they could at least have gone with 2 each, no idea why its just one hdmi port tbh

golden gust
#

apparently 4 cents per device with HDMI

#

literally peanuts given the adoption and very few are driving stuff in a manner where they need DP

shy eagle
#

Lot of gaming monitors use DP, for a awhile it had better refresh rate at higher resolutions but not sure if that is still true.

#

The early 6k displays used dual display ports lol

worthy geode
#

honestly no idea if I even used the correct cable, I might be using the 60hz cable for the good monitor kekw

Or was it 5k? idk it was more pixels than anyone really needed

Feels like there is way too much competition to push for a public server

worthy geode
#

depends on the language and the concept of the server

I am making a dying light knock off using plugins on an adventure mode and that has been pretty fun, though at best only a few will play it lol. Everyone seems to just like the classical survival world.

golden gust

I've seen a few ew servers pop off the charts

Really just boils down to the fact that either everybody is riding into the bootstrap problem like a moron, or creating the exact same server for the 2000th time this week

worthy geode
#

SMP with extras

shy eagle
#

Lot of people join cause the player count so once people start leaving, others don't want to play alone. I mean if you are going to play why not just go for hypixle skyblock where everyone else is. Surprised there is no official server but I am guessing Mojang is not interested in that.

worthy geode
#

but, whats the bootstrap problem? googling didn't really help, if its not the computer science thing

golden gust
#

"it takes players to make players"

shy eagle
#

Yup, no one wants to play on a dead server

golden gust
#

How do you bootstrap/release a server which requires 20 players minimum to be on at once to be even functional?

#

many people completely fail at that and so rarely get to the point where anything is even running

shy eagle
#

Mine only exists because it's part of an existing discord community with good amount of people. Would be dead if it was a standalone thing lol. Though I would just play on my own anyway ha

golden gust
#

It's why the new servers in the minigame type area had hundreds of not thousands of joins within their first week of release because they marketed tf outta it to avoid that issue

shy eagle
#

Also the economy stuff, can't really have an economy if no one is buying and selling already.

worthy geode
#

ah, yeah, that makes sense.
Ive seen this happen with a bunch of rpg servers, which is always kinda sad because the people there spent a lot of time making the map and stuff and then noone is playing because they forgot promoting the server

Like DedicatedMC is kinda nice

#

And they offer quite good cpus

simple garden
#

they seem to want a cheap offer so i gave them 1 lol

placid thicket
#

there are still better cheap ones

worthy geode
#

you get what you pay for in the end

placid thicket
#

^

simple garden
#

look at those prices

placid thicket
#

@ancient perch what is your level of experience? because if you can handle linux and mucking about Dedis are usually better in the long run

novel horizon
#

where's info

#

it just says ram lol

#

but

simple garden
#

i aint clicking on it, they will rob me again lol

novel horizon
simple garden
#

i did the 6gig and then added a proxy and custom domain and had it in Maine and the price was 35 a month

#

after 1 month i self host now lol

placid thicket
#

self host if you can, i'm in the middle of building my own hardware

novel horizon
#

i mean

#

i wouldnt self host unless i wanna take care of it for real

placid thicket
#

i'm just sick of having to contact the provider every time i need more unlimited storage lol

novel horizon
#

security or people doing stuff etc. and also having the proper things to self host, i dont want some random pc running 24/7 like that in my room or so

simple garden
#

i want to build a better machine and get fiber optics so i can host a bigger server. Currently i can only handle 20 players without lag. I have not pushed it higher yet

placid thicket
ashen cliff
#

Yeah, no.

novel horizon
#

O_o

#

Why

#

how

placid thicket
#

no to who?

ashen cliff
#

You.

novel horizon
#

Yeah

golden gust
#

ISP gear is ISP gear

#

It's all just stando shit

#

the wired side of ISP issued hardware is generally okay, wireless is generally where it kinda sucks, tbqh

void void
#

oh no, the worst minecraft bug, invalid move player packet received πŸ’€

placid thicket
#

i improved my internet speed literally 200 mb/s by changing copper cables my gui its valid

novel horizon
#

what

ashen cliff
#

I improved my speed from 1Mbps to 10Gbps by changing my fiber cable.

novel horizon
#

Yep, just that

golden gust
#

though, I mean, the gear is generally underpowered

ashen cliff
#

Yeah, I was using a singlemode cable for a multimode fiber... How could you tell?

novel horizon
#

Free speed upgrade

golden gust
#

and so dealing with throughput vs PPS can be an entirely different ball game

#

many ISP routers have a modem more which cuts down a good chunk of what the router does, and then you just slap your own gear there

placid thicket
#

in my situation it was a case of extreme packet drops over this particular cable

#

my point being is that ISP speed is not the only limiting factor in a network

golden gust
#

and yea, shitty cables are always fun

#

had one cable which was literally murdering me

ashen cliff
#

Yes, but if you had packet drops people wouldn't even be able to play.

placid thicket
#

not true actually

#

often presents as block lag

golden gust
#

I mean, depends on how bad the cable is, tbqh

#

often times it can just be succeptible to noise

placid thicket
#

true, but this particular cable WAS working, just not well

golden gust
#

which is really fun for me as I live near a road which is busy at some times in the day but quiet AF as others

#

My cheapo wireless 4G router fucking hated it during the busy hours

#

and I had a cable which at times of the day would just suck

placid thicket
#

my outdoor cables also experience issues with cold and freezing, but thats more specific to me

golden gust
#

I mean, for outdoor stuff you generally wanna bury it/make sure it's actually to spec

#

or, be rich and run fibre

placid thicket
#

nah, its just a cat6 cable hanging out the window and snaking around the house to another window hanging loose and often in the snow

ashen cliff
#

If your cable is having issues while cold and/or freezing... it ain't copper bro.

placid thicket
#

you got any idea how cold it gets here man?

#

water gets in your cable sheath and just fucks up everything

ashen cliff
#

My brother under PaperChan's roof, get actually copper cables.

golden gust
#

needs some caulk

#

all the caulk

placid thicket
#

its not the copper that has problems my gui, the cold eats the sheath and insulation. and thermal expansion gets them sometimes too in the sun

simple garden
placid thicket
#

and all the salt around here mixing with the water also really doesn't help

ashen cliff
golden gust
#

DSL generally runs in a manner where interference from stuff doesn't matter as much

ashen cliff
#

Same goes for 1 Gbit.

golden gust
#

I mean, it's more often cables are just not rated for going outside

placid thicket
#

again, its not the copper that is failing. its the elements physically eating the entire cable

golden gust
#

i.e. the cable running into your house isn't gonna be some shitty chineseum "screened" cable

#

It's generally gonna be actually rated for the job and mounted by people whom have the stuff to avoid ingress into the cable

placid thicket
#

we have fiber to the router, the issue is a bridge cable to a switch. the bridge has had to be replaced after every winter, it just doesn't survive. sometimes the heat will kill it too

#

but that's only happened once

novel horizon
#

O_o

#

idk still tho

#

it should be quite durable

#

do you live on sun or

placid thicket
#

two years ago we hit -44.4c cable did not survive

golden gust
#

durable for indoors

novel horizon
#

that's quite rare but idk if it's worth it to get some durable for that one

golden gust
#

cables like that should generally be sheltered/burried where possible

novel horizon
#

but that's a lot yeah, especially cold

#

yeah
