And for minecraft compat testing he probably used debugger and simple manual testing and testing by other people, also about performance testing, iirc he made his own plugin for benchmarking light on a real minecraft server, and probably he did JMH microbenchmarks for micro benchmarks of some algorithms... (Don't believe everything I said, check by yourself)
