The original was a top down thing where you blindly wander the world figuring out what to do, the second was a sidescroller thing, Link to the Past was a top down somewhat linear story driven game, Link's Awakening was similar, Ocarina of Time, Majora's Mask, Twilight Princess, and Skyward Sword are all linear 3D puzzle games with some light platforming elements, and then Breath of the Wild is an open world exploration game more like the original than anything in between
