Besides, my last job involved "the metaverse" and has devolved into "let's sell NFTs to children, that'll surely go well"

Nowadays, when I get a headhunter asking if I'm interested in cryptocurrency or NFTs, I just turn it down. Add "the metaverse" to that list. Even if Facebook is desperate to hire people, I could probably secure a job there, but I'm ethical.

(I know someone who interned at Facebook and someone who works there now. The latter pretty much says most employees know they're evil, and either put themselves into suspense or know they can't live long on unemployment with the high cost of living in the Bay Area.)

I remember taking a call from one such recruiter. They wanted someone for an very early stage NFT startup. Even if I was desperate for a job, I wouldn't for a minute even pretend to believe in the cryptocurrency ideology.

also tbh NFT (as a mathematical concept) are pretty neat: they are basically signed messages which's signer information you can validatable change
