I have inattentive-type ADHD which is not what most people think of when they think of ADHD. Inattentive-type used to be called just ADD, but that's not a valid diagnosis anymore (apparently).
Anyway, the symptoms for that are entirely different to the impulsive ADHD, so I guess people never noticed those signs when I was young (or they didn't care). I was able to sail through school but when I hit college the problems really started manifesting as suddenly listening to lectures while not paying full attention (usual strategy) wasn't enough anymore...
