Definitely setting yourself up for pain going the 1.8 route though because there will be lots of bugs in the server and in the plugins you want to use that have been fixed over the nearly seven years since 1.8 came out.

Problem is the hardware encoders are shit quality so if you want maximum quality/bitrate you have to use a CPU encoder
