Hey I know this isn't really a spigot/paper issue, but does anyone know if theres a plugin out there that can disguise mobs with custom mob models? It would have to be compatible with EliteMobs and/or Libs Disguises
I have tried ModelEngine, but I can't seem to get those two to work together

#

elitemobs and a custom resource pack

worldly niche

Your original question included exactly zero information about hitboxes so I have no idea what you want me to tell you. You asked about how to disguise mobs with a custom model. That's EM + a res pack.

worldly niche

Oh yeah for sure. I know I left that out cause I honestly forgot about it

I don't think you're gonna be changing hitbox sizes

warm anchor
tribal flicker
#

However ModelEngine is only for MythicMobs I'm pretty sure, If you want to use another method, it would require that the mob plugin you are using can equip items that have custom model data on them, with MythicMobs you can set an item to have custom model data and you can texture it to look like a 3D Model with BlockBench, if EliteMobs doesn't let you import or make items that are set to have custom model data for mobs to wear then you can't do it, this doesn't need other external plugins but of course needs you to do some texturepack stuffs

you can dm me if you want i can help you get there if you wanna learn about it, people sleep on resourcepack these days it's crazy what you can do with it

Does anyone know the best ubuntu GUI to use for remote desktop, connecting from india to finland? I've tried gnome, xfce, but both are laggy in the rdp connection

golden gust
#

lxde is probably the lightest of them all

#

remote connections really don't deal too well with latency

frank otter
#

I've never tried rdp with Linux, just ssh

frank otter
#

is rdp actually useful?

#

cuz off the top of my head I can't think if anything I can't do from cli that I'd want to do on a server

golden gust
#

for properly designed server software, no

vernal moth
#

YouTube is just way too perfect, i just woke up to this

#

Rdp is cool for virtual workspaces

#

Before we I citrix I would vpn into rdp into my tower at work, to eliminate vpn overhead for my work

golden gust
#

Yea, but it's not really great for like, cross country stuff

#

I mean, latency is an important factor here

minor badge
#

VPN is so god damn annoying

golden gust
#

I think nomachine handles better than RDP, and citrix seemed to perform better than RDP too last I was using it at uni

#

But, I mean, remote desktops for servers is generally just kinda bleh

ancient bolt
#

I much prefer to be on a VPN rather than working over RDP

golden gust
#

not something I'd recommend unless you actually needed it

ancient bolt
#

had to do that for a client once and it was hell

golden gust
#

VPNs are fine so long as they're properly configured for what they're being used for, tbqh

ancient bolt
#

Give me a MacBook where I can run shit locally there, and have a good network for the times I do need to vpn to check servers and shit

#

Yeah ops at my work is very strict about the VPN to be configured only for internal routes

#

VPNs configured to route everything are a special kind of hell

minor badge
#

the problem is more how annoying it is to log in over and over because it dies randomly lol

#

glad CF Access exists

golden gust
#

never had VPNs die randomly

#

Like, only VPN deaths I had where down to my own network

minor badge
#

F5 peepoSMILEEEEEEEE

#

i have no connection issues with anything else besides that for some reason

ancient bolt
#

Sounds like a poorly configured VPN yeah

minor badge
#

it's selfhosted I believe though, so might just also be that it cuts off after some point?

ancient bolt
#

Though when I need to log into one of the servers in Amsterdam having to go through the VPN sucks lol. VPN is in San Francisco, so my connection is going 1500 miles in the wrong direction before being routed back across over to Europe

#

The ping is real

#

VPNs can have a lifetime value configured where connections reset after x amount of time. 8 hours is a pretty common value, you could check to see if you have anything like that configured, might be set to a really low value

#

What do you guys use?

ancient bolt
#

I've never worked anywhere that doesn't use jira

#

I've also never not hated it

vernal moth
#

I just don't think that the other issue management software stuff can scale so good

#

Also, unrelated, fuck, I think am gonna rewrite MiniMessages parser

#

Again

ancient bolt
#

I mean that's the cool issue lol. Jira sucks but what else are you gonna use?

vernal moth
#

I committed to working on MiniMessage today, cause there's a ton of open issues, and even from the stuff I remember I really don't want to deal with this jflex grammar anymore, I think it does more bad than good

ancient bolt
#

You track is jiras only real competitor and yeah it looks nicer but a lot less stuff integrates with it and it's generally not any better probably

vernal moth
#

Good News guys, you can now run JavaScript in your browser using node.js

ancient bolt
#

It would help categorize and manage issues for sure, but GitHub issues works well enough

#

And being on GitHub is important for ease of use and access

vernal moth
#

Yeah for sure, that wasn't a proposal to move, lol

ancient bolt
#

But I've actually grown to like it kind of

vernal moth
#

It doesn't make sense for the paper project, but it could make sense for the paper issues, like the workload

#

I can get the basics of MiniMessage done in jflex no problem now

#

But then you got escaping and stuff and everything kinda fell apart

ancient bolt
#

What are you using for your parser?

olive marlin
#

My only complains for jira is hiding stuff sometimes and also breaking the API without releasing new version. It's slowish, but don't know anything better.

ancient bolt
vernal moth
#

I don't have a real parser I guess?

#

Jflex gives me a list of tokens and I kinda iterate them

ancient bolt
#

Term for that is a "hand-rolled" parser technically

vernal moth
ancient bolt
#

A lever breaks up raw text into tokens, a parser matches tokens into a structure

#

Unless your language is trivial a BNF parser might be what you're missing

minor badge
#

helo mini

#

remember mini: if it's not overengineered to hell, I will not be proud of you

#

do your best bloodstone

quasi valley
#

do your worst*

vernal moth
#

in its simplest form, minimessage is <yellow>TEST<green> nested</green>Test

#

next level would be tags with arguments <color:yellow>TEST<color:green> nested</color:green>Test

ancient bolt
#

I mean I'd 100% write a parser for that

vernal moth
#

and obviously it nests: <hover:show_text:'<red>test\ntest2'>TEST

ancient bolt
#

I could throw a lexer and parser together using my mcdev tooling and you could copy from there if you wanted lol

vernal moth
#

so right now I just use a lexer, turn that into a list of tokens and then iterate

#

my main issue really is escaping rn

ancient bolt
#

If you mean escaping characters, probably a lexer thing

#

If you're escaping tokens or w/e, parsers can help with more complex cases

#

Basically if a character is escaped the lexer should understand that and output a different token

vernal moth
#

<yellow>TEST\<green> \< nested\</green>Test

ancient bolt
#

But this is all speaking in abstract terms so idk how much any of this would help lol

vernal moth
#

this is a case that fails rn

#

it shouldn't do stuff to the \<

#

cause its not a full token

#

so I guess yeah its the parsers job

ancient bolt
#

So if you want to print literal < chars

#

Nah the lexer should handle that

vernal moth
#

ecpected for that would be TEST<green> \< nested</green>Test

#

as plain text

#

(obviously in yellow)

ancient bolt
#

Lexer should return a plain text literal token containing the character to be printed

vernal moth
#

my shower thought was that I should just iterate it by char as like a state machine

#

which I guess is what a lexer does

#

urg

ancient bolt
#

So like

#

In the lexer

#

Your regex which matches tags

#

First part of it would be

#

[^\]

vernal moth
ancient bolt
#

Probably gotta double up the \

vernal moth
#

I do the whole escaping hella scuffed I think

#

I never learned this properly, this is something I wish my uni covered

ancient bolt
#

But a more robust option, which is how I would implement it, is to have the lexer enter a different state when it sees a \ character

vernal moth
#

thats what I tried

ancient bolt
#

That state would not know go look for tags until the next character, which would prevent a tag from matching

vernal moth
#

I mean, if this isn't that hard for you and you got time, I would really appreciate if you could set something up with how you would do it

#

thankfully I have rewritten it often enough so that I have endless test cases

ancient bolt
#

Just looking at that jflex file I think you're doing wayy more than necessary

vernal moth
#

it was way simpler before I tried escaping 😄

ancient bolt
#

In bed on my phone so not in a position to look at this now obv but yeah I'd be happy to help out

vernal moth
ancient bolt
#

But that's all intellij optimization stiff

vernal moth
#

what do you use that stack for?

#

but yeah, would appreciate somebody trying to tackle this from a different angle with more experience

#

that lexer was the first time I ever touched this topic

#

before it was a giant regex 😄

ancient bolt
#

The stack let's me arbitrarily nest lexer modes

vernal moth
#

see that is always what confused me that jflex didn't offer that automatically

ancient bolt
#

So if there's an object with a list of byte arrays, the stack keeps track of which mode the lexer should be in after the end of the current block

#

I think it could be argued that a proper lexer shouldn't need that, as that's not the job of the lexer

waxen panther
#

Minimessage Friday woooooo!!!!

ancient bolt
#

That's the job of the parser

waxen panther
#

Fix <3’s 🪂💞

ancient bolt
#

I did it in the lexer here because I wanted syntax highlighting on the different element types without having to write a separate annotator

#

Which, idk probably not worth it idk. It works and that's what matters

vernal moth
#

yeah

#

but I don't wanna stop you from getting sleep now, if you got some time sometime to look at this together that would be cool

#

I actually used (or well, tried to use) mcdev stuff as an example for grammars cause idfk

ancient bolt
#

For example with your thing, a lexer wouldn't say "this is a tag called green"

It would return 3 tokens, <, green, and >.
The parser would say "I expect a < followed by a name followed by a >, if I see that I will return a tag"

vernal moth
#

Yeah that's what I do, and the parser for that I kinda winged

#

Cause the parser actually turns superfluous tags and stuff back into strings

ancient bolt
#

Lol yeah happy to look, time to lay in bed for a long time and wish I could fall asleep. I'll never get there looking at my phone tho
