On the velocity side, don't set timeout. On api side, don't respond to connection until you get an update.
Velocity makes connection on new thread to api/updates
Your api opens the connection, but stores it somewhere in a set.
When it gets an update, then it responds to all connections in this set with an update body, effectively closing them.
This of course has issues, like what if you'd have multiple updates shortly after each other.
