Ive been installing CentOS/RHEL using ipmi, boot the system using virtual cd drive and install the OS. No need to muck around with whatever image setup the company has and the OS works out of the box as intended

takes longer to install, but it works quite well

Ubuntu is mainly geared towards newcomers, at least when it comes from their base install up to how they handles packages. Ubuntu tends to handhold quite a lot of the installation process of plenty of packages, hasnt surprised me in a few years when apt shows a tui in my face. And yes, it is pointless, but my original remark wasnt about elitism on my end, I really dont care what people use in the end (as long as its not arch or gentoo on a server...).

the EL distros appeal to me mainly from the standpoint of no nonsense
