https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/India_pale_ale
India pale ale (IPA) is a hoppy beer style within the broader category of pale ale. The style of pale ale which became known as India pale ale was widespread in England by 1815, and would grow in popularity, notably as an export beer shipped to India and elsewhere.

A bulbous bow is a protruding bulb at the bow (or front) of a ship just below the waterline. The bulb modifies the way the water flows around the hull, reducing drag and thus increasing speed, range, fuel efficiency, and stability. Large ships with bulbous bows generally have twelve to fifteen percent better fuel efficiency than similar vessels ...

void void
#

went from i3-gaps to sway

#

minimal configuration changes needed

#

and so far i can say that it was a good switch:

  1. multi dpi actually works on wayland, no upscaling needed and doing ridiculous resolutions like with xorg, resulting with choking gpu/bandwidth
  2. games run a lot better compared to x11, can easily get vsync 50fps (yes my ext monitor is 50hz) @ 3440x1440 while playing halo: the master chief collection. to do the same with xorg, i had to run game at 1280x720 (and yes, no compositor)
  3. recording screen does not lag out my desktop or eat cpu unnecessarily much. wf-recorder ftw
  4. ...? idk, things just work, except some wayland native <-> x11 app clipboard stuff & rare apps which need right clicking on taskbar
#

also it's a lot easier on cpu/gpu, no more constant 100°C

waxen panther
limber knotBOT
#

Be me. Contribute Dockerfile to open-source project.

This builds src, which is kinda unsupported

vernal moth
#

Nobody may use the source!

#

But I see their point, I guess they want the docker file to use the official distirbution package?

olive marlin
#

But then it becomes more of a hassle (where should it get the official package? Releases or your currently built version? What about snapshots?).

#

And unless you go with releasing file immediately with the release, you can't just point docker-hub/quay at your repo and tell it "build every release".

#

Also, made the container with Java 11, got complaints that Java 8 is the minimum required version (how does that matter? Didn't go below it). And that Java 11 has SSL issues on some systems (but we'll, containerized and works, so point invalid).

Oh, so I'm baffled and can't understand how checksums work now.
I have 3.1GB file, I did run md5sum on it and then uploaded it to another server.
I noticed it used 4GB of my bandwidth, so I checked the file size and it is 4GB on the other side. I don't know why I checked checksum, but it came out the same.
How TF does that work? Apparent size and other FS trickery, but wouldn't reading the file need to return 4GB worth of data?

mental meadow
#

You sure it's not just weird units m

#

Like GB and GiB

olive marlin
#

Nope. Also checked the raw byte size - 3146436 vs 4190784

#

Also piped the files to wc, both returned the same numbers.

olive garden
#

\n vs \r\n maybe?

olive marlin
#

Nope.

#

I'm talking byte size of binary file.

mental meadow
#

Maybe weird block limits or sizes of the file system

olive marlin
#

But 3.1GB vs 4.0GB? That's quite the difference.

unique snow
#

Overhead for TCP

olive marlin
#

But why the file size at destination is 4GB?

unique snow
#

Oh, never mind

#

Maybe filesystem differences?

#

Both seem strange with a 33% increase

olive marlin
#

I can check in a second, but both should be VMs, on the same hypervisor, crested from the same image.

ashen cliff
#

Zero fill?

olive marlin
#

But wouldn't adding zeros to file, change its checksum?

unique snow
#

It would

olive marlin
#

Though that might be a good path. The file is qcow2 image, it originally was bigger (not sure how much bigger, could be 4GB),which I ran virt-sparsify on before transfer.

#

But still, comparing checksums post all that.

#

The only action in between is scp to another server.

ashen cliff
#

INB4 in one case you are checking physical size in the other logical size.

olive marlin
#

I did use du and wc for both checks on both images.

ashen cliff

i'm going to end up doing that, but it doesn't explain why he's so stubborn about it, especially if it is that simple. i'm curious what he'll say if I PR it

next frost
#

because it's extra work

pulsar wigeon
#

he doesn't need a reason

next frost
#

that too

pulsar wigeon
#

he can just not want to do it and that's the end of it

spare venture
#

bit rude

pulsar wigeon
#

the "customer" argument is so dumb too. you paid for the plugin as is, you're not paying for him to add things or whatever else.

woven otter
#

essentially yeah. he's the author he can do whatever he wants even if it affects his sales or not

pulsar wigeon
#

there's literally nothing rude about just saying "no"

spare venture
#

yeah he can do whatever he wants and i can criticize him however i want

stiff yarrow
#

plugins aren't an early access business model, you should be buying it for what it is today not what it will be

#

with that said I add feature requests as I don't mind and I'm a guy with loads of free time to do such things

#

not everyone has that kind of free time or cares to

#

just PR the stuff you want in

spare venture
#

i was just saying if you make a plugin paid you should be more willing to listen and consider the opinions of the people who are supporting you and your project.

formal turret
#

he did ;d he said no

spare venture
#

fair enough

#

i still see it as rude

stiff yarrow
#

I can't comment on this specific situation, but I think its okay for people not to do every feature request they get if they don't want to

left swift
#

I was on patty's side at the start but then I realized with the early access statement I've been brainwashed by Big Games to buy into unfinished products and expect new content later and that this is not one of those cases

#

Tldr u a bit h PEPW

stiff yarrow
#

unless the plugin states on its resource page that you are buying something that is going to have new stuff coming you shouldn't expect it

spare venture
#

right, whatever

left swift
#

I do think however if you buy a plugin they should still offer support for the existing stuff if bugs found/updating

spare venture
#

yeah

#

i just see adding worldguard compatibility as something extremely basic and simple, it's weird that he'd be super against it

#

maybe he's like wiz and hates everyone

#

which is fair

left swift
#

Maybe hes like wiz and just hates you

stiff yarrow
#

so maybe its an experience level thing

ashen cliff
#

soft depend might be intimidating
Well. If you did it for yourself you wouldn't even care about that. Just make some trash code that works for you and no one else. kekwhyper

stiff yarrow
#

wouldn't matter if it was trash code or not, a beginner dev might not understand how to interface with something that may or may not exist at runtime without errors and maybe they can't be bothered to google it

#

most the time when I deal with plugin devs doing weird stuff and I have to look into it, usually turns out they just lack basic Java fundamentals and coded some weird shit

spare venture
#

i don't think it's an experience level thing, he even said in one of the issues that he's become jaded from most problems stemming from users being dum

stiff yarrow
#

I never understood that kind of thinking

formal turret
#

prob a mix of entitlement and "users being dum" could totally see how that'd make someone jaded lol

stiff yarrow
#

if a user misunderstands an issue and thinks its my fault, sure that is annoying but I don't lose sleep over it, I try my best to correct them when I can and just leave it if they are stubborn

#

I'm a people pleaser so if someone wants something I usually add it, so I don't really perceive anything as entitlement unless they are being rude which is uncommon

#

I also ban people nearly right off the bat if they are rude, I don't really tolerate it

Yo ima bout to download a paper server but i want to know, is there really no lag? Does it compare to paid server hosting softwares like apex hosting

warm anchor
#

First thing I read when I tab back into this channel. I hope you are ok lol

I think it's food poisoning, this is the first time I've been out of bed (other than that trip to the bathroom) in like 20 hours

visual egret
urban jewel
#

I thought so

#

But is papermc actually fast

visual egret
#

i mean, faster than spigot and bukkit

#

apex probably downloads paper when you buy a server from there

magic river
#

I'm not aware of any hosts providing their own version of the server but if they do it's almost certainly based on paper

twin lagoon
#

apex hosting is a server hosting provider

#

they do not offer "paid server hosting software"

#

you receive a server that runs your server software of choice e.g. paper
