Especially in the Minecraft community, multithreading by dividing the world into regions that can be processed in parallel is the go-to suggestion. It's a clean and simple solution with just one issue: sometimes regions have to interact with each other (eg. entity teleporting from one region to another). In this case the question arises: do we lock these 2 regions and process this cross-region event right now, or do delay the processing until all regions have finished with their tasks? I'm also curious about how to handle this "delayed" processing, as I see many alternatives, but I can imagine issues regarding them.
But back to the original question: I'm looking at alternatives to region based designs, especially now that ECS based designs are on the rise.
