Those are all nice ideas. Simple interaction (left/right click) has the lowest barrier to entry beyond just joining the server so I think that'd be ideal.
I went over to the LuckPerms server and asked for ideas and they basically said "do whatever you want. fuck off" so that was nice.
You know, Essentials has a gamemode sign.
New players could join defaulted into Adventure and be forced to interact with a gamemode sign to gain the ability to actually play (aka be set to Survival)

my hub doesn't have any flashy text in front of them, just a help npc to the side if they need it, and NPCs in the front
then, if they want, they can explore the hub a bit more
learn about the different features if they're curious
the idea is to make them want to learn and discover things themselves. that way, it'll be much more rewarding once they actually do learn something new
though, the one thing i do need to blast in their face is how to open the server menu (contains user settings and other epic stuff)

I was going to implement this through EssentialsX's Chat module but it can't break things down on a letter-by-letter basis. It can't break down on a user-by-user basis either, for that matter but I had a workaround.

The problem is that the Narsehole itself is designed to "fit all toilets", and it has these "dials" that you ram the metal rods through to fit it in place, so you can sort of adjust it, but my very standard Danish toilet has a very short "section" between the bowl and the cistern, so there's no way it will fit unless I start chopping it into pieces, but I'm pretty sure it'll just break. Sucks! π¦
