my backups are weird. i shutdown my servers, copy the dirs, start the servers again. copy the copied dir to my 4TB hdd. then i tar that dir on the hdd. then i download that tar to my home pc :3

You can just download it file by file (the whole server folder) with SFTP client, but if you have a big server, it will take a long time, if you can, compress it, then download and then uncompress again
