my answer so far is to isolcpus ALL cpus that go to java, then launch process into the isoloated set --> sudo nice -n -19 taskset -c 8,12 chrt -r 1 script.sh but changing affinity isn't working on the launched process. script.sh: launching a script with a "sudo -u nonrootuser java -jar paper.jar" to prevent mcserver as root but still get it into isolcpus

Yeah, now that I've seen Effective Java again, he recommends the private constructor and concrete class pattern. However, the zero-element enum is probably a bit better, even if enum-related stuff would pollute the API.
