Free servers should be fine with half or even less.

@oak bobcat Xeons are good however I7s will take the cake for raw performance. But the biggest trade off is the RAM sticks. Because ECC RAM won't work in I7s since it's not supported and therefore if one of those nodes goes then you need to spend time figuring out which one died instead of ECC "telling you" which stick gone "bad". ECC will also tries it's "best" to prevent data from going "bad" as well.
