Modding and Achievements

  • Mods do not normally prevent you from getting Achievements.
    • If you want to prevent them, you can use the Disable Achievements mod.
    • If a mod changes/removes something that's part of an achievement trigger, then you won't get that achievement.

  • In some rare cases, players report not getting achievements when modding. While this is not normal, it should be mentioned that it can happen.

Starting Pale Court

  • Install it using Lumafly
  • You must have ||All dreamers||
  • You must have ||defeated a specific boss:|| ||White Defender||
  • You must then find the location that connects each Knight to the world. You can watch the Launch Trailer if you want directions where to go.

Known problems with Pale Court

  • HKTool and WeaverCore are not compatible with Pale Court (or each other)
  • AdditionalMaps, Extra MenuBackgrounds, EssenceAlways (and any mod that attempts to force Essence drops) aren't compatible, and will prevent you from being able to enter fights.
  • Using a BenchWarp Deployed Bench in new areas will break the file
    • If you accidentally do this, then close the game, disable Benchwarp, then open the file again. Get off the bench you spawn at, and sit down again. Then save+quit, and you should be able to enable Benchwarp again.
    • Alternatively, you can open your user#.modded.json for that file, and edit "atDeployedBench": true, -> "atDeployedBench": false, . You can type ?tag savefaq for more information.
  • HK Vocalized may prevent you from accessing fights
    • (This appears to not be consistently reproducible, but if you can't enter fights, then try disabling it)
  • Skill Upgrades will prevent Charms from working correctly
  • Hollow Point will not work if Pale Court is installed
  • Any mod that adds new Charms may prevent Charms from working.

If you're having other issues, then please read #1090079233520451714 and create a #1057825333841240104 post with the requested info and any details. Be aware that Pale Court was not designed to be compatible with other mods, and you will usually need to choose between using either Pale Court or the other mod(s).

A few mods on this list have 2 versions, a 1.4 one and a 1.5 one, so be careful to pick the 1.5 one. Also if you ctrl+f the 1.5 port of Ultimatum Radiance, be aware that it is named Ultimatium Radiance for some reason

And for nightmare god grimm, I believe this boss only exists on 1.4 but you can play Inferno King Grimm which is a variation that you'll find on the installers

After modding the game and launching from Lumafly once, you can launch from Galaxy after that.

It's possible that GOG just blocks all achievements from a modded copy though, I'm unsure

There is an Achievements Manager mod that you can use to just give them though, which iirc works for Galaxy too

So you can always do what is normally required, and then add them manually if you wish

So I spent some time making a back-up-able archive of all of the Knight skins for personal use, and I was adding metadata files to them to make it a bit more organized. About halfway through it I realized that it'd be really simple to just code a small website that lists all of them and links to the original sources, so I coded it and put it up at https://hkskins.art/. So far it only has the Knight skins, most of them are the ones from Colette's list, there's a few extra versions for some of them, and a couple that aren't on the list at all. I hope someone finds this useful!

I think it's the best HK mod out there, and one of the bosses in particular is probably my favourite fight in the game, modded or not. They're designed to be as hard/a bit harder than the hardest vanilla bosses, so the curve shouldn't feel too steep compared to those.

Radianting them is very hard though.

Iirc, there is a server that keeps track of what is happening in your game
And I think that the server, as long as everyone booted up correctly, will hand back items to everyone whether or not they disconected

It's Extremely's personal Patreon. What Team Cherry doesn't allow is crowd sourcing directly for a project (ie you cannot have The [ModNme] Patreon). A creator however is allowed to have their own Patreon, and they can post project updates there.

There's probably a few reasons that TC forbid a direct HK Project from having a Patreon / Kickstarter, although I suspect the main ones are consumer clarity and IP protection, since people may confuse the project as official, and/or negative events that could happen with them would potentially associated with TC.

That being said, a creator is always allowed to have their own Patreon, which clearly indicates that the consumer is supporting the creator, as opposed to funding a project. And yeah, if there were things that were going to always be Patient-Only, then that probably would fall into a not-allowed category; but in this case the only thing there is beta updates until they get into a finished state and the already public mod gets the update

Arguably what should have happened, was the lead dev advertising their own Patreon, and mentioning that if they got more support, that they would use that to help The Sanctuary.

that's the thing, supporting creators directly is ok. If you want to support the whole team working on a mod you like, then you go to every team member's patreon/kofi/whatever they use and support them. Because you're showing support to people, rather than support to 'Hollow Knight' which they don't own the rights to.

Hollow Knight Crashes upon opening after installing mods ⚠️

This error can happen for several reasons. Read through all of the common ones below to see which might apply to you.

  • "Hollow Knight isn't responding"
    • This isn't actually a crash, you just need to wait and let the game load. This is common with mods that have a lot of Pre-loading (like Pale Court, Enemy Randomizer, WeaverCore, and mods that load a lot of skins/audio).
  • Your game patch doesn't match your installer
    • Modding is now done on patch 1.5.78+, required by all current installers. If you're on Steam, make sure your Beta is set to "None"
    • "Mod Installer" (Zote) and Mod Installer 2 work with version 1.4.3.2, and should no longer be used. Tutorials saying to use these are outdated.
    • There aren't installers for other patches, like 1.2.2.1. For speedrunning mod help, type ?tag 1221 into chat for more info.
  • Something didn't install correctly
    • Right-Click the installer, and select "Run as Administrator"
    • Ensure that the installer isn’t in a .zip file (if you got it as a .zip, you'll need to Extract it)
    • Make sure that the Installer is out of your Downloads folder
  • You're on Linux/Steamdeck
    • Add -force-opengl to the steam launch options.

How it works

HKMP puts a copy of each player into each other players world.

If it didn't work even after rebinding it, then you might need to restart your game, because that shouldn't be the case.

That aside, in the CK menu you were in, you can also just choose to hide the list completely.
