HKMP (Hollow Knight Multiplayer)

How it works

HKMP puts a copy of each player into each other players world.
Enemies have separate health and will usually be in different places; Items/abilities must be collected separately; and Breakable objects must be broken by each player. Player attacks happen in each player's world, damaging any enemies/players it comes in contact with. A player is only hurt by the enemies in their own world. This page explains how you can use other mods and addons to synchronize some aspects, and improve your experience.

How to manually install mods on 1.5.78

  • Download the mod (it'll be either a dll file or a .zip that you need to Extract).
  • Go to your /Mods folder and create a folder with the name of the mod.
  • Note: You can use your installer to Open the Mods Folder
  • Move the mod file(s) into the newly created folder.
  • Launch the game.

you need Custom Knight for any skin swapping. cdash is part of the knight sheet, so if you only want the cdash of a skin some editing would be required, otherwise if you like the skin the cdash goes with just swap the whole sprite sheeet

see the pins for the how start modding video & the mod installer, get custom knight, download the skin & put it in the appropriate folder

like I said, if you only want the cdash you'll need to do some editing. You'll need a program that supports layers & transparency and you'll need to combine the cdash portion of the sheet with the knight portion that you want

Scarab vanishes / Scarab is Blank / Scarab cannot download ModLinks!

This happens when the installer is unable to connect to the internet properly.
This is commonly because one or more issues:

  • The installer was left in a .zip or in the Download folder. (It's recommended to put it on your Desktop or on the same Harddrive as your game installation)
  • The installer may need to be run as Administrator (Right-Click it, and select "Run as Administrator")
  • The installer is being blocked by built-in security software, such as Windows Defender
  • The installer is being blocked by third-party security software (Avast / Norton / MacAfee / etc)
    If you are not sure how to create Exceptions in your Security software for programs, then you can see this guide or you may need to google how to do it for the software that you use.

I think it’s pretty good. Some of the audio seems a bit loud and jarring but that can be adjusted I imagine. From what I remember the voices are very fitting. Characters like Stag and Cornifer sound just like you’d imagine they sound. A lot of work was clearly put in and I think it shows, even if not everyone involved is like a professional voice actor.

It is the correct setting, an interesting detail is that it should be called "show room name" instead of just "show room", which version of benchwarp is indicated in the top left corner of your screen? If it's the latest - 3.2.3.0 - it might be just a visual bug, are you using a standard (16:9) aspect ratio? Because non standard aspect ratios are known to mess with what mods display on screen

Install scarab+ (you'll find it in the pins and in the description of the video), install custom knight, follow the video for a step by step guide for installing a skin. If you want to remove the hud from a skin then you'll need to remove the HUD.png file of that skin

Just in case there's an issue with the global settings you can try to reset the mod (click the clock-looking button in its description on scarab+) then re-enable the setting, if that doesn't solve it you can try to force a 16:9 aspect ratio through steam launch options (right click hk in steam, go to properties, stay in the general tab and under launch options add -screen-width xxxx -screen-height xxxx but replace the xxxx with the amounts of pixels that fit your screen the best and form a 16:9 ratio, personally I'm using -screen-width 3024 -screen-height 1700 which is the biggest I can get with my monitor)

Scarab vanishes / Scarab is Blank / Scarab cannot download ModLinks!

This happens when the installer is unable to connect to the internet properly.
This is commonly because one or more issues:

  • The installer may need to be run as Administrator (Right-Click it, and select "Run as Administrator")

I tried out the godseeker mod. Here a problem, when I turn on "halve damage (HoG ascended or above)" and I fight the Collector in the Hall of Gods at ascended mode then it does 4 health damage instead of 2, turning it off again makes the damage per hit for the Knight 'only' 2 again. Isn't the Collector at ascended mode supposed to do only 1 damage with that toggled on? I used the most up to date version of Scarab to install the "GodSeekerPlus" mod and the mod itself has version 0.24.1.0. It is some time ago that I beated pantheon 5 the last time but I think that the Collector does only 1 damage in that pantheon.

Other mods which I had enabled while fighting The Collector in the HoG: all bindings on and P5 health. My goal is to beat P5 with all bindings on and two bosses are standing in the way: The Collector and Markoth. So I want to fight the bosses in the HoG exactly the same was as how it is in the Pantheon, + or - 1 or 2 lifeblood which varies depending on my run.

If you don't want to use a packing program like ckc or spritepacker (which personally I always suggest spritepacker over ckc), you can just edit the spritesheets directly. Packing programs make the process easier but aren't required.

Yes, you can make the art anywhere then transfer it. Though again, I do recommend spritepacker instead. It let's you pack way more things.

Keep in mind, if you're going to work on sprites individually, there are a lot of duplicates. So to make sure you don't waste your time, get into the habit of putting the sprites into the packer after every animation and check for dupes. Each packer will automatically check and replace them for you so you don't end up redrawing the same sprite again.

Mods/Controller not working correctly on Steam Deck
Issue: Steam Deck installs the Windows version of HK, then runs it in proton. This would be fine except that you install Linux Scarab, which replaces the Assembly-Csharp with the Linux version, and then it doesn't like to work correctly on "Windows" anymore

Solution: Go to the HK Library page, select Properties -> Compatibility, check "Force the use of a specific steam play compatibility tool", and select "Steam Linux Runtime" (Note: not the sniper or soldier versions)

This will reinstall the Linux version of the game, and move some files around, so you'll need to select "Change Paths" in Scarab and change it to the new install path, then reinstall your mods. After this, everything should be working.

This is the same folder. On the left is the folder when I open it using the scarab app… like when it prompts me to search for the correct folder, this is how it opens the folder

On the right is same folder but when I just open it using windows explorer and the launch file is there in this window

If the problem is that the .exe file has to appear, then AGAIN it’s the app that has a problem for not opening the same folder properly

The problem was that I didn’t install through GoG galaxy. I had installed using the Offline set up files I downloaded…. Solution was to uninstall and install using Galaxy

Hollow Knight Crashes upon opening after installing a mod ⚠️

This error can happen for a number of reasons. Read through all of the common reasons below to see which might apply to you.

  • Your game patch doesn't match the installer you used

    • Modding is currently done on patch 1.5.78+, and this is what all current installers require. If you're on Steam, then make sure you are not accidentally using a Beta patch (Beta should be set to "None")
    • "Mod Installer" ( Zote) and Mod Installer 2 are made for version 1.4.3.2, and should no longer be used. If you watched or read something that said to use these, then it is outdated information.

Pale court is the one that has sparked my interest, I've looked up other mod suggestions and there are usually a randomiser or a skin changer mods that are suggested. But I'd like something more of substance? Something that would add to the playthrough, any recommendations?

Not giving Pale Court because "most challenge mods are done poorly" is dismissing one the largest mod projects ever done for Hollow Knight. IMO everything in it is quite well done & the bosses are very challenging.

As for new game plus, in the way you've described there really isn't one. Most extra enemies that have been added are stand alone bosses that often only appear in hall of gods. Something like a plando or Glimmering Realm also might fit the bill, but those are kind of based on rando which you don't want.

I was using them globally. I still have all the skins but not I think in a usable global format (some did not download with the correct custom hash), just in with ALL of my skins (which is a continuing work in process of organizing & removing any extra folders from my local copies so they're all instantly copy/paste usable) - I backed up my main skin folder from my old pc but not my actual CK folder.

  • Hollow Point doesn't work on new saves. Save and quit, then reload the save file.
  • Having multiple Gun Class charms equipped can also break the gun.

Here are ways to fix it

Not working with Custom Knight skins!

This is a known issue, and Custom Knight is not considered compatible with HP.
Here's steps that sometimes work for people (but if they don't, then you'll just need to play with the default skin):

  • Uninstall/Disable Hollow Point
  • Launch the game, and Apply the skin in the Main Menu.
  • Open the desired Save File, pause and Apply the skin in the Mods Menu.
  • Save and Quit, then close the game.
  • Re-enable Hollow Point.

Modding "Xbox Games" versions (Gamepass / Microsoft's App Store):

Note: this is for Desktop/Laptop. You cannot mod the game on Xbox consoles

  • Use Scarab+ (it has additional support for this version that other installers currently don't have)
  • Right-Click the Scarab.exe KnightBuild and select "Run as Administrator"
    • It should automatically find the install and ask if it's correct. If it doesn't find it, then you will need to link it to the Hollow Knight.exe found in C:\XboxGames\Hollow Knight\Content by default.
  • After installing / installing any mods, wait about a minute before launching the game (this is because Windows does a weird thing for Xbox Games things, and it makes copies of files)
    If you have further issues, then please see #1090079233520451714 and create a #1057825333841240104 post if needed.
