I can talk way too long about this, but I have this theory that we are reaching a limit for what's possible in terms of visuals and physics. The problem right now is that you can always upscale textures, or smooth models, but other things like lighting effects, rendering techniques, and AI will always be dependent on human ingenuity. A lot of games now might look good, but we have actually 'progressed' in terms of all-around realism very little for at least a decade now. It just isn't possible with only humans doing this stuff, not unless you wanna spend literal years doing it.

there's no problem with iterating on what is good but you can't just copy and paste you need to make the game feel different. the soulsborne games are all just iterations on the same formula but all of them feel unique and different to each other
