I raise you
what
I once tricked a bunch of Japanese shiny hunters with this around BDSP's release
tbf it's not hard to be better than pokemon
pokemon isn't that good
aye, Pokemon's biggest strengths are its marketing and its variable designs, allowing almost anyone to have one or more monsters that click with them
It was good for like 20 years ago, maybe
Back in my day, Pokemon had that effort put into it... nowadays it's just "battle frontier" this and "regional gimmick" that.
Series has been stagnant for a good while
Ever since XY tbh... 8 years ago...
i keep up to date on the monster designs but i hear the state of the games from elsewhere online
or my friends
you really want attention dont you
tbh I don't really see the difference. Yeah the recent games were meh, but they were meh in similar ways to all the other pokemon games
Don’t we all
who me because yes
Isn’t everything we do for the attention of others
i want people to start debating
Including ourselves
i guess the issue then is that in all this time the "pokemon formula" has not been greatly improved now that they have literally all the money they could ever want
Yeah that's exactly the problem
yup
What I personally dislike about the new games (gens 6-8) compared to previous games is that they have far less content, and overall feel sloppier. I'm also not a fan of the generational gimmicks, I think megas were a perfect evolution that could've lasted up to gen 8 at least.
yeah that confused me too
New game does seem to at least try to do something new
I think the Pokemon formula works fine as long as they shake up other aspects of the games
the gigantomax mechanic also causes some pokemon to feel incomplete without that mechanic
since they were designed with a kaiju form in mind
but clearly they arent gonna bring that back
For a good while it's been the same gym challenge with an evil team you battle before gym 8 or something, who want to take over the world yada yada
Gen 7 changed the gyms a bit but from what I've seen it's mostly the same
It works but it's repetitive
Honestly I thought sun/moon was one of the better games
And the z-moves seemed pretty appropriate mechanically as a one-off heavy hit
I haven't played it but I've heard mostly negative sentiments from it
clearly you should be playing Last Armageddon for cutting edge RPG/Monster-Team gameplay
I have ni no kuni familiars and that's all I need
One viewpoint I saw on the 2D vs 3D debate I thought was pretty interesting is how the styles differ in how they impress the player
Basically, with the 2D games, there's a lot more room to go outside the box and surprise the player with cool cutscenes or in-game events
For pokemon the 2d/3d thing is really just aesthetic, it has no real bearing on mechanics
In the 3D games, stuff like Z-Moves and Gigantamax look cool but are to be expected
It's got no bearing on mechanics, but a game like Pokemon needs more than just mechanics
3D also is more permissive of big environments since it's easier to get your bearings, but pokemon games haven't generally utilized that
That's why people don't like the map of Galar, it's functionally sound but holy shit is it inconsistent
Like the wild zone did and that's about it
Honestly sword shield kinda felt like a transitional thing
IMO if you are going to do 3d you need to commit to making the pokemon feel more grounded in the world theyre in.
Like they were trying to modernize the series but just sorta got halfway there
I know it's not gonna happen cause big business stuff and whatnot, but I'd love for Pokemon to just not release a game for like 3-5 years and pour a lot of heart and soul into one big game
Sure, that's a good way to go
Things like weather effects on pokemon spawning is an example of making them ostensibly more natural
Yeah that stuff would be cool
Like if rain brought out more bug types (stuff like Wurmple or Caterpie) and water types
Have y'all been keeping up with the stuff about the new entry? imo it seems to have some real promise
It's definitely interesting, but I'm just gonna watch instead of buying
Like ik there's been skepticism but it seems like a step in the right direction
Yeah stuff like that. In the new pokemon game, do herd pokemon (like say ponytas) travel in heards
Yeah that'd be cool
Something I was thinking about was something similar to Legends: Arceus where you explore an open world region and kinda start a town or something
Pokemon with like subnautica levels of animalistic behavior would be awesome
Very much not doable, but awesome
Imagine protecting a stronghold in the wild using Golurks
Replace a Leviathan with Gyrados
Terrifying
It didn't get very far but the idea of "open world Pokemon with town building" was kinda neat to me
I might go a bit into it again, try covering some bases Arceus doesn't
"Open world pokemon" is such an oxymoron, that series is one of the most stupidly arbitrarily limiting
Pokemon Valley. You live your life as a Berry Farmer but also train pokemon
Strange. simo made name 382 days until a few min ago and changed it
Dont read into it.
nice ping 👹
It was a joke in response to something Powdered said
Making it a ghost ping is even worse
wouldn't it be a funny joke if the game actually came out in 382 days
I feel like Pokemon as a broad concept works for it, "catching weird creatures"
thank goodness. Theres still chance for SS 2022 Feb
Sorry Simo
As a concept yeah but just not in terms of what the series is and has been
Tbf the current series model wasn't really built to last
No, but it did
True
It's hardly a secret that the design is antiquated but that didn't exactly stop them from just continuing to adhere to it
Largely imo because they benefit from nostalgia and absurd name recognition
I'd be totally interested in a game about the Pokemon wildlife and Pokemon that adhere to their Pokedex entries
Yeah but that would have to be on a pretty small scale to be feasible
Legends: Arceus seems to tap into this a fair bit but it's not quite what I mean
Like pick a couple dozen pokemon at most and just really nail down the behaviors
Or there may well be a serviceable middle ground
hey chat didyou hear about that new silksong leak and it's coming out in month or whatever
I think it'd be like one main gimmick with each Pokemon then maybe add some small stuff, maybe a pool of like 200 Pokemon at most
no it's real my uncle is a cereal box top
Yeah that could work although I expect the believability would fall apart fairly quickly
Like how apparently Sigilyph follows the same pattern every day, so make them do that
lets follow Sigilyph on its daily grind to the office and back
What a man
Yes it's sloppy. Cope
Did you just say cope?
Mald even
Seethe
what office department?
psychic
Imagine if you had a camp set up and Hoopa started stealing from you
where is my pokemon sitcom but each type is just a different field of work in society
Everyone Loves Rayquaza
Poketopia
We need more Bug + Fairy types
is this already a real thing or was that just a made up name
Is cutiefly the only one?
Like mii topia or bot topia
Made up, Zootopia but Pokemon types
It's Always Sunny in Pallet Town
yeah i figured
Afaik yeah
Kinda makes sense ig since it's a newish type
There should probably be more fairy types overall, even if the intent is for it to be a rarer type
Apparently fairy is a really strong type
hello Jonny
It is but it seems disproportionately rare
I remember back when fairy types were first introduced, shit was cool
Ghost was also rare at first 👹
Fairy and Dragon both seem to occupy this spot of rare but strong
Yeah
It's been 8 years Wombat
only 8?
Grover

It's weird to wake up one day and realize that shit happened like 10 years ago and you remember it
B2W2 came out 10 years ago and I still play them
That's not weird
I regularly play like 15-20 year old games. What's weird is realizing how much time has passed
True
or 25 yrs ago
I've started watching One Piece
also I'm covid positive
Is one piece good?
fuck, get better dude

Haven't touched One Piece. Also, I hope you're doing okay and get better soon.
all my symptoms are gone other than mild chest congestion
At least you’ll have extra time to watch one piece
I cough approximately once per hour
Congestion is annoying but that's about the extent of it generally
first day was rough chills, but not the worst chills I've ever gotten while sick
during college I once couldn't leave my bed even with my heater on full blast
ouch
OP is just|| a giant drag of an anime, forget filler its still like 700 eps. idk if theres an end in sight and theyre in the thousands now ||
Yea, I know what bad chills are like. I was once freezing cold in summer and literally shaking, was not fun.
I’ve never watched it
One Piece is alright so far, I like the characters
and since as I understand it, OP is just a fucking massive road trip movie, that's probably good enough
I heard the manga is the way to go, cuts a lot of the filler.
Which means the anime adds the filler
power system is weird but easy to follow. some power creep but not DBZ bad
Honestly I'm kinda down with a ridiculously long series, I don't really mind filler since I often like to kinda half pay attention to things
anime always adds filler you would never need filler without anime outpacing source material
Devil Fruits, Stands, Quirks, Demon Blood Arts, what's the difference
the pudding
To be fair, not every anime adds filler, or at least not as much as some other ones, like long running shonen manga/anime.
The Promised Neverland anime does the opposite of adding filler
Yah most other anime cut stuff
some do pacing well.
absolutely nobody knows how to wait for acompleted manga before adapting something
that literally drove me nuts they had no reason for that nonsense
Lol yah Naruto had a real filler problem.
I mean, nobody adapts completed manga because part of the reason for the anime adaptation is to drive hype for the publication

Just do what Mob Psycho 100 did and adapt the manga in short bursts, a season at a time and wait some years in between seasons and now the manga is finished and they announced season 3 so everything is gucci and the pacing is perfect.
God mob pyscho is so good
But it was a webcomic so shorter to adapt.
Mob Psycho 100 is one of my favorites. I love it.
It’s great
TWO boppin ops
yeah bitch lets count to 100!
I hope Season 3 is great also
Reigen arc

As someone who read the manga and finished it, it will be the best one.
In terms of content at least
I’m hyped
Same, need to see the final arc animated in all its glory
Bleach
Also, speaking of HxH, I don't think we'll ever get a continuation of the anime tbh. The anime already ended on a good spot and the manga is up in the air for the forseeable future. It's sad but it's reality.
Silksong will release when hxh updates.
Dorohedoro was nice
like 4 HxH VA died
Just remake it again
very odd but good
I read a bit of the manga before the anime came out, remember it being a fun time.
casual murder is a mainstay in dorohedoro
The only manga I ever read was opm due to season 2 hurting.
SSSS. Dynazenon was probably my favorite anime of last year though, big fan of tokusatsu mecha action.
silk song will release when one piece ends
I'm reading the web comic for OPM right now. I watched the first season of the anime when it came out but never the second. It's a fun time so far.
Yah I enjoyed it
I found out TC got a small house/office in adelaide

To me it feels like the wilderness and we've all huddled around a fire.

With the occasional mod who happens to know the location of every single campfire who is always watching at a distance
Always
Well I can tell you the next camp fire is a long ways away ( at least SS news )
Good knight
Yes
But soon we'll see the next camp fire ss server

Silksong!
Ok
Daily Question: When will SilkSong go on sale?
Probably more than a year after release
These daily messages are gonna get annoying
No, it's supposed to be controversial, political, filled with crime
based and redpilled
Isn't this channel about SS
Silksong when?
No satan shut up 😡 We are not based on mom
Welp, we are closing in on February already, how are you guys feeling about Silknews?
Wait for Nintendo to look forward to silkSong's launch date
I really hope in the next Nintendo direct :D

SS will come in all its glory, to judge the living and the dead, soon enough
i am summer 2022 gang for ss
I am ... uhh batman

I know we're just speculating and there is an argument where "oh the nintendo direct isnt big enough for the ss reveal" then what is?
Like what sort of event would reveal it is my question

All but gone?
oh is it officially confirmed now?
Oohh damn they cancelling e3 ???
quite possibly, not officially afaik
Oh ok thats unfortunate
if it's not cancelled then there's a chance yeah
should certainly hope so 🥴
Crowsworn wouldn't be a very large game if it did
considering it was in Kickstarter when SS had like what, 2-3 years of development?
forgot when the kickstarter trailer for CS came out
i backed fnf and cs cuz i love em both
and i would back hk too but i was too young when that happend lol
I think July 2021?

Hi guys

I found this funny and I thought I'd share it with you:
"On February 2nd we should kill ourselves as a sign of protest"
Suicide jokes aren't really funny but ok
For what tho
Sacrifice to please our gods Team Cherry?
If silksong isn’t out
Cause there was a leak on steam or something for feb 1st but it’s almost certainly just a placeholder date
The apocalypse shall arrive
silksong!
If silksong doesnt release on february 2nd i will play dont starve together like any other day
guys did you know ss is militarized corps that was the elite guard of the German Nazi party and its main instrument of control
From what I've been told, the source of the leak is accurate and we can trust it. I don't know
Nope
i found it on google
Could come out in feb caus HK came out in feb and so did the SS trailer, but with no new news then most likely it’ll be out later this year or at the end of feb
The nvidia leak is not solid evidence
HK came out on feb 24th and SS trailer was 14th feb so later in the month is possible
It might not even come out this year, remember elden ring is releasing this year^^
Yh I guess
It'll be out when it's out. Most likely, there won't be a good way to predict it until it actually gets announced
Elden ring is too much competition to silksong
so either 4th feb or 34th feb?
ER is very much not too much competition, the industry is big enough to have multiple games release in a year
People can also play both games, and the games have different audiences (ER and SS are even on different platforms)
Yeah and I see silksong as something that’ll also continue to sell well in the future too if it’s as good as hollow knight
If HK is any indication, definitely
the hornet in silksong is actually a imposter
the placeholder date was 1st feb 2022 so even if it isn’t accurate they may have put “1st” because they didn’t know when in the month, I 100% think that 2022 makes sense though
SS fans when it turns out to be a partner game with EA
I mean sure it 'makes sense' but it could still not happen
Yet ss will be souls-like, so inevitably people are forced to chose to either buy ss or er, i don’t know if tc wan’t to take the risk of less sales and being overshadowed by er
wat if team cherry decides to be quirky and make no sense by releasing ss on 16th december
that’d be a pain
The games are not the same genre, one is a 2d platformer/metroidvania, the other is an open world arpg
People can also play two games
It literally does not matter at all
That's the way I see it as well
TC can't realistically wait for a year with no AAA releases
Er will be really expensive btw, not everyone will buy both games at the same time + it’s a risk
just cancel culture every other game so silksong will be more succesful
People don't have to buy both at the same time and SS will be much cheaper
I mean any game will have to compete with elden ring then
Elden ring is AAA lol?
I still think that most likely is sometime in like June to august cause feb is so soon and with no news recently it’d be weird to realise it out of the blue all of a sudden
No matter when SS releases other games will always exist
^^^
Yes, it is
Yeah I don’t think there’s any best time to release it based solely on what other games are releasing
and Later in the year gives them time to build up more hype to get back all the excitement from people who kinda gave up on waiting
That won't really take much time
I guess
A release trailer alone would probably do it
Yeah
SS is still fifth in steam wishlist, and second for games without a release date
But 1st feb seems way to early seeing as it is only 10 days away and we have no new news
maybe earliest end of feb
It’s about competition and taking risks, other major game releases are a big factor in determining whether to take these risks or not, ER was more anticipated then SS. I seriously don’t believe that TC would wan’t to take a risk of majorly diminished profits and sales, it’s just how business works fam
It wouldn’t take too long for hype to resurface after an announcement
Like for example the official skywalker saga release date was revealed 3 and a half months before it comes out
HK released a few weeks off of botw
I mean the question is if there does exist a period where there isn’t another highly anticipated game set to release too, not just elden ring
Besides, if it’s releasing in february there should’ve been a trailer yet
And a period to which anticipated releases will not be set
Yeah that’s kinda what I mean with it being too early after no news
Yes, literally next year or late 2022
what's the first game without release date then?
Like there’s always going to be a new cyberpunk or mario odyssey or whatever too
Late 2022 botw, probably among others, 2023 will have things too
Me when
someone post another shitty proof that SS is coming and the comments are always dumbfucks doing the same "time to put on the clown", "please, dont give us hope" and or "silksong isnt real" messages
The industry isn't so miniscule that the release of one moderately significant game puts a chokehold on it and nobody else can reasonably release anything for like half a year
That just isn't true
Actually that’s what most game studios do
A real shit ton of them, they avoid realeasing their game the same time another major game is releasing
there are always gonna be new things and with the amount of excitement for SS I think this year is pretty good, that being said we don’t have much reason to think this year over any other year other than the most likely placeholder date of 1st feb 2022
dude i think it's time to put on the clown, but please don't give us hope, and btw - silksong isn't real

At the same time, maybe. A year is a long time, more than enough
When the biography of how Taco went insane comes out this will be in it
And again, people can buy two games, and SS has an audience independent of ER
Yeah, that’s why i think SS is releasing either late 2022 or at the start of 2023
Late 2022 will have botw 2
Maybe after mid 2022
Yeah better question is if there’s major audience overlap, and I’m not so sure about that either
Admittedly this is more of a stats question
They are on different platforms
No confirmed release date btw
Does anybody here have experience working in the game industry? I'm asking because I want to know if what is going on with Team Cherry and Silksong is normal or not
Ah true that simplifies things
SS is a platformer, ER isn't
how much is silksong
HK sales - 2 Mil, Dark souls - 27 Milion
Probably $15, maybe $20
HK actually sold 3M
Late 2022 makes sense but we can’t get two exited cause people have said this same stuff last year as well, however this time their placeholder date makes you think if they were gonna guess a date to put in as placeholder you would probably get that same year as the actual date, otherwise why would you not just put it as really far in the future
Now imagine elden ring sales and popularity , considering how anticipated it is
HK sales are much higher than that, and the 27 million is a whole series, not a game. HK is also an indie and does not need to sell as much
Doesn’t change much
HK sales are probably around 5 mil by now, it was 3 mil in early 2019
HK is still a very successful game all around
The argument that a singular indie game sold less than an entire AAA series is silly
Probably around £15 - £20 because hollow knight is £10 on steam (on sale at £5) and silksong looks to be a much bigger game
True, but so are all fromsoft games
convert that to australian dollars pls
Multiple successful games can exist, it's a big industry
Man idk lemme check brb
It’s probably 5-6 mil HK copies now
Like 20€/$18
Idk i’m not arguing anymore u seem to fail to grasp the most basic concepts of capitalism
Goodbye

Well that was eventful
I think £15 is about 25 Canadian dollars and 20 is like 34 Canadian dollars and I £15 - £20 is likely, might be wrong though I used a conversion thing online
the thing to understand is that the gaming sphere is not one big homogenous audience. The people that buy ER and the people that will buy Silksong aren't necessarily the same people.
The vast majority of 'gamers' are people that own just a console and play only the most popular AAA releases, and the people that play Indie games are a very small subset of people that play games.
In any case we don’t know how far along SS is in development so this is all a bit moot anyways
For all we know they don’t have a good product to sell yet in Feb
The conversation about ER specifically is pretty much moot but the same thing applies to other AAA releases too
👍
Yeah I can see the more general argument
If you ever hang around gaming communities you will know that very few people have ever heard about Hollow Knight, those people probably wouldn't buy Silksong even if it came out in an empty window.
the game is not coming next month.
Indies rely on having a different audience to AAAs, they will never be able to outpublicize them, and that's fine
👍
how would you know
this is just not true
they dont, thats what for all we know means
👍
plenty ppl know about hollow knight
Depends on which community
HK is well known for an indie
well of course that kinda depends on the community but in most gaming spheres I've been in finding a person who knows HK is pretty rare
Like the starcraft/dota people would barely know about HK
Indie savvy gamers will know about HK, but that doesn't mean most people do
DOTA STARCRAFT
But if the trailer was released in February 2019, it must be beyond finished by now...
I wonder where did the term indie from
What is that
Same for any other big community around some very different game
WHAT IS THAT
I moderate a large gaming community. Lots of ppl know about it. Obviously it can't be compared to something like fortnite but it's an indie game
i remember someone on roblox had a hollow knight avatar
Oh, what game?
Or is it non-specific?
non-specific
I see. I mostly hang out in game-specific ones. I've noticed that for example a disproportional amount of people in Risk of Rain servers are fans of Hollow Knight too
Yeah it very much depends on the community
I first started in the Metroidvania genre with HK
also, not gonna lie, people that join non-specific gaming communities are already the minority, most people don't get that involved
?
Yeah I think a lot of people focus on one or two games
Not many people have time for a dozen
People that hang around the gaming sphere a lot will probably have heard of Hollow Knight, but people that just play a few games and only join the communities for those games are a lot more common than people that care about gaming as a whole
Or money
@opaque sigil do you want go bet out of 10€ about ss release i kinda need money rn
no

I’m sure there’s someone who’ll take your bet

Well sure there are ppl who only play specific games. They would have less likely heard of hollow knight unless they're into metroidvanias, that's true.
Is that a proposal?
those people are the vast majority
People that actively search for games to play and care about discovering different games instead of just buying what's most popular are in the minority.
Who
That's me heheh
DM’s please
So like, I'm fairly certain that the overlap between ER customers and SS customers isn't very big
omg minecraft is silksong ripp off!!!!!!
^^^
^^^
Well yeah I can't deny that. Games like fortnite and cod and what else are hugely popular and lots of those gamers don't take the time to look elsewhere. Kinda boring way to play games but each to their own.
I like you, you are cool
And even if it is, people who have been waiting aren't going to just forget about SS, even if they play ER first they could buy SS after
it's like, a big portion of people who want to play SS also wanna play ER, but the reverse isn't true
I like people named team cherry
so it's not really competition, and people that wanna play SS will likely play it anyway
ty ty 💃
Silksong doesn't need to have 1m copies sold on the first day
also SS will be cheaper so there's that
Huh
Like it's not going away after the first week
reminder that HK released like 4 days before Breath of the Wild
Silksong isn't competing with big AAA publishers
Who is breath of the wild that guy naughty af
It will sell well for what it is. I really hope it comes out this year
ikr
💅 🥱 🤚
True. Plus, I don't think TC is desperately after money. I feel like they care more about the quality of their product
SS has a significant audience that is pretty much guaranteed
It would be hard, if not impossible, for it not to sell well
Yeah it’ll probably have tens of thousands of sales daily for like a week or something
It’s wishlisted by a lot, and regaining hype won’t be too hard after a proper release trailer
also day 1 sales aren't as important for indie games as they are for AAA publishers who spend millions on the game
You know theory of relativity, how time is relative? If there is absolutely no matter and energy left in the universe, only particles, time is not relative to anything and so a month is the same as 1 billion years, by the time SS releases all matter and energy will be gone and thus it doesn’t matter if ss releases in February, because february will both take 1Mil years and 1Second so theoretically SS has already released
You’re welcome for the physics lesson
Longevity is a big deal, yeah, and the style of game that HK was (and SS presumably is) is very permissive of longevity
Cheap, hand-drawn graphics that don't get dated
I mean regardless, if an indie dev is faced with the choice of 'do I want to release my game in the market at the same time as a AAA behemoth and potentially risk some attention being drawn away from it' or 'do I want to release my game at a time when the gaming market isn't as busy and all eyes can be on my game', it seems obvious to me what said dev would go for 🥴
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^i love you
Except the attention that the behemoth would get is attention that would never go to the indie dev anyways
like, sure, maybe it won't actually hurt sales as much as one might fear, but if you have a safer option why not take it
^^^^*^^^^^^
Because the market is never going to be perfect
doesn't have to be perfect
The february release date was just a placeholder in a nvidia database. It shouldn't really be taken seriously. Unless I've missed something.
can we not completely mangle physics to make an unrelated point
one option is safer than the other
Barely
Nah ER is just being taken as an example
^^^^^^^^
^^^^^^
Discussion is more considering a general AAA title
It's not like indies that release in timeframes without AAAs necessarily are successful, the industry still doesn't pay much attention
ss = so silly
then why would you risk further reducing that attention
Bruh someone @ ed me and i got so excited
Because it's not a significant reduction
Might cry
It wouldn't be better if you waited. Indies are fundamentally reliant on a distinct audience
can't really know that for sure, can we
almost everyone on vc is live
And like Arch said day one sales aren't as vital
Who is that
ah yeah well no they wouldn't move their release date for something like ER. But anyway I just hope we see Silksong at all this year. It's my second most anticipated game and been for a long time already.
true, but in a hypothetical scenario where you had a finished game that you really wanna get out to the players, and you're faced with the choice of releasing or waiting for the steam from said AAA behemoth to blow over, which one would you choose?
Why wouldn't a developer try to maximise day one sales
^^^^^^^^^^^
well, a publisher or marketer would. A developer wouldn't necessarily.
No indie is ever going to compete with AAAs for day one sales no matter when it releases
That's just not feasible
By saying that you are helping out his argument do you understand that? No indie is going to compete with AAA so thats why it’s safer to release way later

It's an indie game. The day1 sales are going to be small regardless compared to some other games that gets marketed in the millions.
No indie is going to have AAA level day one sales no matter when it gets released
Y'all are acting like indies follow the same paradigm as AAAs, they don't
HK
I feel like a better question is whether or not there exists a day such that an AAA won't overshadow an indie's release
'they don't compete' not as in 'they don't have a chance in the competition' but as in 'they won't be competing at all'
HK had a slow start
yeah HK had a tiny audience when it released
Well thats just wrong idk
If said AAA behemoth is really close to release or has just released, then I'd choose to wait, yeah
since it feels like there's always some big AAA game nearby set to release
Name an indie that had a AAA sized audience on release
It doesn't happen
Exactly lol
You literally just said the opposite
How long would that be?
So imagine further down reducing sales from that small audience

I mean yeah an indie game won't have an AAA-scale audience or sales figures, but I still don't see why that would stop a developer from trying to maximise their own profits
if this happened what will be your reaction? (the image is fake btw)
Because that's not where the bulk of the profits lie
Bullshit that's what I'd think
I would wonder if TC's account got hacked because they clicked on a free nitro link on twitter
who will send free nitro links in twitter
well, depends on the developers' priorities. This is what a marketer would certainly try to do, but as we know Silksong's marketer doesn't have the final say.
Doesn't have to be the bulk; if it's any significant amount at all I still think it's better to wait, personally
my reaction will be like this

i mean theres still crowsworn in that case, although no one knows when that'll actually release either
I'm willing to bet that Crowsworn will miss its projected release estimate by a lot
absolutely
I dunno, I've heard very mixed opinions about Death's Door
mad hk fans will call Crowsworn a "hollow knight ripoff"
The indie sphere is a small subculture of gamers, and those people will likely notice SS, ER or no
i also working in a 2d game
Riot games btw
Riot games didn't buy TC
i just start learning unity script
i'm doing great so far
Riot games isn’t a small indie company btw👍
With a small audience👍
Irrelevant
Nope, Riot games is an indie company with a large audience, you said indie games have small audiences
It’s not irrelevant at all
Indie games have small audiences relative to AAAs
Riot games have i think what is it? Largest audience in the entire world or something
i will relish the fact the i can see 12 year olds cry their hearts out, SS will finally get defamed, and the Hollow Knight fandom will crumble within the month
no more Silknever, no more clown memes, no more unfunny memes and shitty jokes, theyll wander and drift, being absorbed with the rest of other annoying fandoms or wtv new indie game takes them all 😌
Riot isn't indie anymore anyways
Riot Games is a huge exception, using it as an example is disingenuine
Technically Nintendo is an Indie
no way jesus
but it was, and they still had one of the largest audiences
they are an independent developer
See what Arch said
Before they were bought by funny Chinese company i mean
Exception does not make the rule, unless you are arguing that HK is on a similar scale
Yeah Riot arent indie cos 10 cent own them
nintendo is a large publisher. they aren't indie lol
And generalising that all indie games have small audiences is disingenuine
Do they independently produce their own IP?
no not really because the overwhelming majority of them do
That's what a generalization is
what if nintendo made something like the gamepass in xbox
Indie games generally have smaller audiences
You’re using generalisations as an argument
well the generalizations are accurate
Twitter moment
that's not the definition of indie.
CS used to just be a hack, same with Dota. Game can become AAA if they get popular enough
Oh wait there’s a real silksong release discussion here... cya
I love you graig you are sexy
you would be right here if the generalization was unfair, but saying that the average indie game has a small audience is the undeniable truth
Indie has no real definition, neither does AAA, or AA or anything
by the way what is your Opinion about Crowsworn from the Trailer
people just say things
I think Crowsworn looks good, but I also think it has taken a lot from Hollow Knight in terms of art direction
Certainly, although I think it's distinct enough to not be jarringly similar.
so basically you're saying it's a ripoff of hollow knight and it sucks
Yeah, inspiration is clearly present but it's not an outright copy
I don't see it as a bad thing because more game similar to HK = good
"It's just an hk clone" is such a weird insult when HK was a good game
Hey guys it’s a metroid game it must be copying hollow knight
the people call it ripoff just for the art style.
i don't think so and its looks good
It’s a game of the same genre it will inevitably have similarities
Anyways inspiration isn't a bad thing but unless it does something interesting with that inspiration then it does come off kinda shallow
Shallow isn't bad necessarily, it just isn't good
The studio that made Crowsworn advertised the game themselves as inspired by HK
just today they posted this on twitter
and i was like.... Oh Queens Garden
is the stag to the left?
Lmao
The environments are extremely similar in graphical style
im not shitting on them but i shouldnt be able to just see a pic for 1 second and it be exactly like the game its inspired from
like... change it up a little bit lmao
send an angry letter to leth
damn new silksong leak is looking good
^
And the same goes for Ender Lilies and Ori 1 & 2. They are metroidvanias and necessarily share some things
^
i mean it's thorns, they don't seem that similar aside from the fact they're a lot of thorns
The visuals are very derivative of HK but there is room for mechanical distinctiveness
Team cherry invented thorns wdym
What does "^" mean?
I agree with the above
Means they agree with the above comment

^
Crowsworn is super overhyped but it does look decent
I’m feeling kinda quirky ngl

Silksong when?

The leader of pharloom will be og king of deep nest
He's dead
something something alternative facts
The leader will be Hornet from the future
SS shares a plot with bioshock infinite
this says a lot about our society.
I will say that the combat in crowsworn looks a lot flashier than HK's
Well yeah considering their inspirations were Bloodborne and DMC
yeah HK combat is very subdued, so bit of a moot point
Did someone ping me?
Can't wait for the Lutece twins equivalent
Garmond and Zaza obviously
Crowsworn does give me HK reskinned vibes

The aesthetic is undeniably similar
I'm not talking about aesthetics
damn crowsworn main character walks, and the knight walks too
this can't be a coincidence, it's a 101% ripoff
And taking inspiration isn't the same as being a ripoff
I don't feel it
And besides even if Crowsworn was a HK clone that would be fine
its just a whole ass genre at this point. these types of games. So be it. Mightaswell enjoy them? if they're like hollow knight, shouldnt it be pretty good?
It does look to have its own artstyle
I wish there were suitable HK clones
In any case, I will always judge games independently
Still feel the "plague doctor mask protagonist in steam punk setting" aesthetic somewhat tiring.
I wonder if Silksong with have a crowsworn refference / easter egg in the game. hence the dev connection
waiting for the protagonist to have an extremely powerful elder brother and it's just Gehrman
I'm not judging the game but the way assets are placed is heavily inspired by hollow knight
We're just talking about art here
There's no need to get defensive when people point out that Crowsworn is transparently inspired by HK
That's not a bad thing
Inspiration is how the industry advances
The thing I liked the most from the Crowsworn was the combat, specially the gun-meele weapon combo
It's probably a couple years out anyways
But I don't want to be kinda fishing for news like I do here
It has a kickstarter so the devs will be pretty much obligated to release stuff (all the more reason not to fish for info, since it'll be impossible to go in blindish)
TC has the luxury of being conservative and judicious with what they release, so not really a concern for SS
In all honesty, I'm in no rush to play either, with so many games that I want to play that are already out.
That's also fair
Yeah I try to be careful with devlogs and stuff like that
RISK OF RAIN DLC LETS FUCKING GOOOOOOOOOOO
When someone says "Wasn't Silksong just announced?"
its releasing on my birthday my dad owns silksong btw
Wasnt silksong just announced
Yes it was.
i get firstdibs

Thanks reevers
Wasn't silksong just released?

Wow cant believe crowsworn has bosses and hollow knight does too
Such a fucking rip off
can't believe crowsworn stole camera mechanic from hk
crossworn is a game? why didnt team cherry copystrike? we all know team cherry made the first ever game?
Cant believe crowsworn is in steam
They definitely stole that from team cherry

Fr it has been more than a minute
The minute is still in progress tho
That minute has been going on for 3 years straight now.
still a minute
i mean, there are only 12 seconds in a year
so we're halfway through , round about

Patience
team cherry pls release bug waifu simulator 🙏
Please don't do it Tissy
ples relese la song de slik
Silksong is the prize
And dignity
2 years isnt that long 4head
people acting like their lives depended on this game
coming up on 3 but still not that long
well you will get silksong one day
||possibly||
🥺
Nothing will make it come out faster
You again
The passage of time will
I'll be sad if it comes out before it's finished
wash away the sorrow, all the stains of time
Before they are completely satisfied with it, near enough
Its still best, staying positive and hopinf it comes out any day now, than staying negative lol
different
I'd like it to come out as soon as possible as well
As soon as it's complete
Obsessing isn't being positive, it's being obsessive
Not thinking it'll come out tomorrow every day and not believing any rumor or leak is not being negative
HK has a more "gritty" and tinier design detail to it
Crowsworn looks more like a mosaic painting
Can't even have thorns
I think it's a ripoff because it's in 2D
We all know Tissy owns the 2D space
And all others are lazy ripoffs
shading isn't as intense as hk
.
.
Crowsworn looks uhh, smoother? Idk if thats the proper word
Maybe I just misinterpreted
There's nothing wrong with MR taking inspiration from elements of HK's design
And so pointing out that they did isn't inherently a criticism of the game
In fact people who criticize it based on that are ignorant, willingly or otherwise, of the ways in which genres develop
Games totally should take inspiration from HK, it was an extraordinary experience
Environment design was fantastic
I guess I just don't understand what the fuzz about this screenshot in particular is
The layout is particularly similar
I guess? I don't know, it just feels like something that could have easily existed without HK. Tho I guess that's hard to believe considering the rest of the game.
Crow looks more cartoony
obligatory look at the diff of it compared to the Grindle gif
and you look more clowny
how about you stfu until you beat me in a 1v1 quake match, or beat the Black Monolith fight on Legendary/Legendary difficulty huh???!?!
omg, a game has a part where you jump on platforms to reach a higher area, this game copied hollow knight what a ripoff!!!!
I wasn't directing that at you
It just seems weird, two big metroidvanias, of course there will be a room in one that looks kinda similar to a room in the other
It doesn't matter anyways
Without HK crosworn wouldn't look like this but it would probably play the same the question is where did their motivation come from if HK didn't exist
I didn’t ask drongo
Skill issue
The thing about Crowsworn is that, it looks similar to HK, a little TOO similar. The layouts of the area, some of the game elements like falling acid, it feels too much like HK and SS. There are plenty of ganes inspired by HK and they've all feel different in their own respect, even when taking things from HK, yet Crowsworn always just makes me feel like I'm looking at the same game just with different art assets (and guns). I don't know how to feel about it.
Not really layout
It falls into that category of game that only uses one other game as it's visual inspiration
The way you can clearly tell games inspired by specifically Castlevania or specifically Metroid
there were no acid falls in hk...
It also takes some visual inspiration from SS
I don't know much really, I just think these two room's layouts don't look similar enough to make any conclusions about inspiration for that room in particular
other than in background art
crowsworn is cool
faster gameplay
what do you guys think about silksong release date being leaked by geforce? it is real or not? do you guys think we are gonna get some news in february? i want some opinions about this
No, the leak is useless
Placeholder
probably just placeholder
not real
silksong is coming out next week(confirmed)
RELLY?!?!
no
You're not funny
i have proof
3am challenge ordering a silksong potion off the dark web from bendy
YAAAAAA lemme prepare my wallet
git gud casual
You will know when they announce it
Most probably placeholder, the problem right now is that algorithm made google and youtube thing that paritcular date is the real one, not helped at all by the clickbait articles from sites like gamerant.
(went wrong) (omg)
(got murdered)
(massacared the entire world)
BIGSHOT
idk i have this feeling there is gonna be some news in february
Wrong channel
I already posted it in art discussion
Pipis
wrong server
The current YouTube Clickbait is a short with something like:
" OMG why did he do that tho 💀 💀 "
My recommendation, don't except anything.
That's right. I'm the only funny person in #sk-discussion .
alr.
The leak changed anyway
shorts dont give any money though iirc
But they do get attention
I don’t want to be in any undertale/deltarune related discords tyvm

who thinks silksong is coming out this year raise a hand
good good.
3 people believe thats good lol
Do you
Make that 10
Late next year for sure.
If someone from TC staff (except Graig I think) will raise a hand I will do it too)
i think mid this year
I am feeling this year but not betting on it
Ppl really pessimistic here
Arch literally just said he was feeling this year
Conscious optimism is still optimism
december 2099
On the other hand, the good thing about being a pessimist is that you're always either right or pleasantly surprised.
i say 2099 as a joke but youll never get my real prediction
but its not feb or this year
Presumably because you know your real prediction is just a guess and aren't so presumptuous as to assume it is correct
hey gamers
Fuck you
ok joker
banned
Silksong tomorrow
I did not
my real prediction is also not as solid as all the ravings of this channel, like "feb first reeeee"
you forgot to add wide to your name
impersonation is against the law bro
said they in 2019
and 2020
and 2021
wow jojo actually getting demoded watch it live here folks
anyways
trust me my Logic and Rhetoric skill trees are telling me so, and my Inland Empire is making me feel it
I am back
Why even bother trying to predict the release date
lack of creativity
just wait
Hopium is my guess

who knows
