The fact it the story isn't bland and to say so is just a ridiculous statement. There are multiple layers of story going on all at once, many different factions with their own interests at play. I would say it's not particularly original actually. But it's not bland.

Pointless to even judge the game for its story, it doesn't have what you'd call a typical narrative, it's more about the world building and how each individual can interpret it in their own way based off environmental detail and in game text which isn't original but certainly far more compelling than most games with very standard storytelling
