I’m a little worried/curious about the tools as we’ve seen them now, as all the ones we’ve currently seen in action don’t seem to have legitimate situational application beyond whether it can hit the target(s) or not
TLDR: how is TC going to balance tools between one another, if the end goal for (nearly) every tool is just method of damage delivery

Like why would I choose any of the above over a pimpillo or sawblade? Do they have charges? Damage value differences? Is a question of Single/multi target?
Cause if none of these factors are (made to be) drastic enough of a factor in combat, players would be ill advised and also be more likely to just stick to one burst damage tool.

Well, one thing is that some could be more effective against certain groups of enemies types
Like the example above, the spike floor trap would be quite effective on enemies on the ground, but near useless against flying ones, while others like the javelin could be an effettive way to damage flying enemies from afar.

This is referred to as situational advantage, and isn’t necessarily an enemy type weakness
Spike traps can’t hit enemies in the air, but a javelin could hit enemies in the air or on the ground.
As such, mechanics with these kinds of disadvantages are usually given other perks - like maybe a fast deploy speed, high damage, some other debuff, etc

That’s why games with an emphasis on their combat systems always have some kind of drawback tied onto high damage moves or healing moves. Healing takes time in Hollow knight, DS, even Minecraft does it. High damage moves usually need to be charged with a meter during combat, have a slow deploy speed, leave you vulnerable after, cost resources, etc.
But as far as I can tell, nobody is gonna pick the pimpillo because they want to do Aoe damage.
