all i know is pilums intentionally have a thin end just for the sake of piercing shields and killing the other guy behind it

and once theyre attach to shields, it renders them into a fancy counterweight

Nail upgrades are one of the things that let you feel 'stronger' in hollow knight as time went on, since earlier areas got much simpler. It's a feels good thing.

I personally think that straight damage upgrades are kinda boring, and with SS combat being much more varied, it wouldn't fit the theme.

It's possible that the upgrades are different this time around for sure. Involving big quests or being more varied than just +damage.

It may be possible to have like, needle art that would do 3 hit combos and stuff that would obliterated early game enemies while late game ennemi might like, dodge after the first hit
