Honestly it’s hard to define anything in game as a difficulty spike; given the nature of metroidvanias (especially in the case of hk) you can always move away and come back. Plus; it works as a pretty decent skill check for THK/rad/the game onward. if wk is too hard, you really shouldn’t be eyeing up the palace.
2: WK is not the only or probably even the largest wall. Lost kin and most any dream boss are catastrophic for players who get the dreamnail early/pre wings.
3: WKs actual and only point of difficulty is what makes the boss unique in the first place. The attacks are simple, overall and individual hp isn’t really much, and the developers added that chandelier boss nerf.

But yes; WK being a required boss and being accessible relatively early makes their unique mechanic(s) a pretty sizeable obstacle

I’d just argue it’s not one worth labeling it problematic.

TLDR:
I am an elitist who cares not for the novice. Skill issue. Get good. I beat NKG first try and only use fury.

A small theory, 3 factions. Cultist who need to capture hornet for unknown reasons, might be for the connection with the weavers and half pale being. Lace, who is also a spire who wants to prevent Hornet to reach the top of the citadel, and thinks the better way is get rid of her. And the towns, who are not involved in any way with both factions and want tranquility.

Also, narrative mess up is common in novels and storytelling. Know an author who is friend with GRR Martin, and told me the reason whi Winds of winter has not been published is because martin killed a character needed for the story to follow. Kinda funny crippling himself with his own trick

there's a defiled chalice in the game where your health is cut in half. and one of the bosses in it is a boss that you've seen before and would normally 2 shot you, but now it one shots you

chalices are like mini extra-content dungeons

you basically end up spending the whole fight running away, booping the dog on the nose once, running away, booping once, occaisionally runninng in different directions for different moves... it takes forever

And even if you do them the Defiled ones are pretty far in

So you get all your upgrades and use items/spells, but you can either:
+Turn your Hp refil flasks into mana refil flasks
+turn your healthbar into health pips. (Slow large hits are now weaker, rapid weak hits are now deadly)
+sword damage lowered but spell damaged increased+slow mana regen

Or all of the above.
