I don't think you'll be able to use the original tool version after an upgrade, so don't think there will be multiple upgrade paths (which would be cool though, but could make some people salty if they unintentionally get one upgrade vs another)

actually maybe you will get to keep the og tool. This allows for multiple upgrade patths which are always fun, and allows TC to keept tools balanced across tiers with making upgrades cost more shell shards/have-less-uses-per-rest
