Playdead Studios released their first title, LIMBO, in 2010. They didn’t talk in public at all about what they were working on for years after that. 2011, 2012, and 2013 pass. The studio is radio silent. 2014 comes, and they release a trailer for their next game. It looks like they’ve got something working for early game stages to the end game. Then they go radio silent for two years, then release another trailer, and finally they release the game in 2016. They cooked quietly, but the payoff was enormous. They’ve been cooking their latest game even longer now. There’s been less of a trickle of info about their third game in the works, but there are a few scraps to be found if you’re looking for them. But they’re taking their time, and they will give us the game when it’s ready. When these small studios really want to make their game shine, they gotta cook. It takes time. It can take years to get it just right. But I’m sure it’s only because they really want to deliver a product worth waiting for. I feel like it’s largely the same with Team Cherry and Silksong. But Team Cherry’s been communicating with us more than Playdead has. Rest assured, we have little to worry about.
Also, since Silksong began as a fulfillment of the Kickstarter Hornet DLC, I’m sure Team Cherry felt they owed the backers an explanation and an announcement for what has been becoming Silksong, so they know what they were paying for would be a thing that is happening.
