As far as I can tell, I think the SS corpe run is a good balance. You dont get punished for dying (Broken soul container), but you lose your un-stringed rosaries. So, if you you dont have to go back to the same place to restore yourself to full. You can choose to ignore the place/boss that killed you.

Basically if you are diligent on stringing those rosaries, death shouldnt be much of an issue
