Pale higher beings seem to be able to control soul much better then normal bugs. We dont really see any non pale higher beings getting asociated with soul so its lilely that the vessels pale origin gives them that control of soul.

i refined my theory on the blue lake i made a little while ago; adding details and polishing it (i like yapping, ok?)
A Sea of Sorrow: A theory on the Blue Lake
While most people look at the Blue Lake as just a part of the map, i believe there’s a much more grounded, human story hidden in it, it isn't actually filled with water, but with the literal tears of a kingdom that lost everything. My theory suggests the lake is a massive reservoir of grief, built up by a population that broke under the weight of the Infection and the realization that their savior had failed.

The not so rainy rain
If we look back at the kingdom’s peak—like the normal, bustling city we see in the memories of the Mighty Hegemol, a boss from the unofficial mod Pale Court (you should play it if you haven't)—it’s clear the rain wasn’t always there. The constant downpour only started after the kingdom began to die. This suggests the "rain" isn't just rain; it’s a direct result of the Hollow Knight’s failure. When the promise of salvation turned into a slow, infectious death, the citizens had nothing left to do but mourn. Their collective sobbing, centered in the Resting Grounds, eventually overflowed and seeped through the cavern ceiling, literally showering the capital in its own sorrow.

Memorial To The Hollow Knight
The most interesting part of this theory imo is how the lake sits directly above the Memorial to the Hollow Knight. The tears of the people fall right onto the statue of the one who was supposed to save them. It’s a tragic cycle: the citizens’ grief for their lost hope pours over the monument of that very failure. In this way, the City of Tears isn't just a name for a kinda bad ceiling; it’s a literal description of a civilization physically drowning in the sadness of its own broken spirit.

Solace
Under my theory, the Blue Lake acts as a traditional spot for grief and finality. It’s the end of the road for those who have finished their journey and have nothing left to give. The way Quirrel acts at the lake’s edge is the best evidence of this. By leaving his nail behind—breaking his own rule that a nail should never be abandoned—he’s performing a quiet, ritualistic surrender. He doesn't just disappear; he joins the "Sea of Sorrow," adding his own final memories to the water that feeds the city’s downpour. The lake becomes a place for a poetic end, where the weary return their essence to the kingdom’s history.

Problems with the Theory:

• Due to the salinity of tears, the Memorial To The Hollow Knight should have probably rusted already
• There's not much evidence, it just convienently has a good poetic theme that matches the game
• It's half-baked
• Quirrel is the only one actually seen sombre at the lake, tiso just doesn't give a crap.
