Ah. Idk about vanilla, but for 1432 modded, you do need to manually install the Unix ModdingAPI.
ModInstaller2 grabs the Windows one, regardless of what OS you're actually on.

If it doesn't work with vanilla though, then you may just need to use a kebind remapper, and map all of the controller inputs to keyboard keys.

Close Hollow Knight, then download and run this file:

Then when it's done, open Hollow Knight again and check if CustomKnight is in your listed mods.

Nail Damage is a property on your Save File.
You need to either edit your save, or increase it with debug again.

You can look up the values for nail damage on the wiki (make sure you unequip all charms first though).

OK, try getting rid of BenchwarpFix (which, contrary to what the name suggests, is actually breaking stuff)

(Don't worry about benchwarp. Benchwarp isn't broken, but as I understand it benchwarpfix is basically a failsafe for if you try to do something like deploy a bench in colosseum. Except apparently it's breaking your game beesive )

You might want to make sure you get any before you use a mod if you want to. Or just try to keep a note of the ones you get while you have mods to get them normally later.

Well that could probably be fixed easily, but if you want to stick with 1.4 and fix your controller. You should manually install the modding api, mod installer 1/2 install the windows version no matter what which causes controllers to stop working on mac/linux

Incase you don't know where the managed folder I was talking about is, you can reach it by either

Opening mod installer 2, pressing "Open Mods" in the bottom left, and then going up one folder
Going to your steam library > right clicking HK > properties > local files > browse > right click the hollow_knight.app > select show package contents > \Hollow Knight\hollow_knight.app/Contents\Resources\Data\Managed\
You can also probably open it via terminal by pasting in open ~~/Library/Application\ Support/Steam/steamapps/common/Hollow\ Knight/hollow_knight.app/

Nexus mods are almost definitely not updated to 1.5, so no you can't. Nexus also isn't the safest or most updated place to get mods. If you're looking for a wider selection of mods, there's many that aren't on 1.5 yet but you can use by reverting to 1.4.3.2 and downloading mod installer. There are also some other ones scattered about, such as any rad or glass soul in the pins of this channel. Generally if it's pinned in this discord server, it'll be safe to use

1.5 doesn't have randomizers, HKMP isn't on the 1.4 installers but it is available. There's also the outdated multiplayer mod on the 1.4 installer

There's several programs online you can download that essentially take controller inputs and map them to keyboard inputs, so you can use a controller but the game thinks you're using M&K I believe one of em is called "Joy2Key/JoyToKey"

A VPN is the simplest option, Hamachi or ZeroTier are good ones, you can also port forward though that's a bit more complicated, there's guides online, and I believe there's also some public servers for HKMP, tho for randomizer you probably shouldn't use that

And you should both run the randomizer, make sure you put the same seed

You have to open the Mod Installer every time you want to use it.
It should only ask you for the path once though. If it's asking multiple times, then make sure that you have it on Desktop, and you may need to run it as Administrator

Save states are a bit weird with godhome stuff iirc, easier pantheon practice has a reload boss feature, but you have to press it quickly after you die and it makes things a bit weird sometimes (I.e. absrad fight has the full VGF attack scene instead of just fading to the dialogue) Edit: just remembered easier practice isn't on 1.5 yet

I'm not really sure tbh, I'd say either save state right before the statue so you don't have to die and get up to reload (unless someone comes by with a better solution) or get used to pressing the reload boss button real quick

Then you'll need mod installer 1/2 and you'll need to go to a previous game version, the third pinned message has more info

From a gameplay point of view, practically nothing. The major things are 1.5 added controller vibrations, watcher knights back roll now, and there's some bug fixes. Otherwise they've got the same stuff

So I hid the debug mode/enemy randomizer settings thing and I have read so many things on how to get them to show again, but my f1 is a “help” button for my computer normally and I can’t find what people mean by the binding settings. I’ve also tried going into my app data but I can’t find the files people talk about deleting for a clean slate and clearing my save file and restarting doesn’t do anything

Step 1: Delete copies of the mod installer until you just have one of them. I suggest you keep Mod Installer 2.
Step 2: Verify integrity of game files through steam
Step 3: Open your game, make sure it works and is on the correct patch.
Step 4: Open Mod Installer 2, and look for "Modding API". Click the orange "Out of date" box. When that turns into a tick (or disappears, depending on which view you're on) you can open your game.

Hey people, Im interested in modding the game. I just have one question. Does downpatching via steam mess with any existing save files? Or is it fine as long as I dont open that save file while downpatched?

It is a separate mod. There is a button labeled "load enemy randomiser" on the main menu screen

You might need to do a restart to get it to show up the first time
