After installing, in order to actually use the mod
When the mod is correctly installed, you should see it at the top-left of your main menu, with the other mods you have installed.

If there is also some larger text that says "Load Enemy Randomizer", then press that button to randomize the enemies using the default settings (Note: you will need to wait a few minutes while this loads). If the button is not there, then go into Options > Mods, and Disable the mod, and then re-enable it. You will also need to close the game entirely, and re-open it.

I can't get Debug Mod's menu to work in 1.4 (works in 1.5). In game it shows up in the mods list, but pressing F1 (or any other key) doesn't bring up the menu.

1.4 modding is generally no longer supported, since there's not much use for it at this point beyond speedrunning and a few specific mods. There are a few resources still in pins

Hello I just downloaded Hollow Knight on my MacOS
For some reason when I press play Steam thinks it's opened but it doesn't actually open
The application pops up but doesn't open at all and I don't know what's wrong

🔹 Scarab doesn't open correctly on MacOS

  • Move the file you downloaded (mac.zip) to your Desktop
  • Double-Click it, and Scarabmaggotprime should appear
  • Right-Click the Scarabmaggotprime icon, and select "show contents"
  • Go into the MacOS folder, and then double-click the "Scarab" file.

🔹 ⚠️Scarab cannot be opened because it is from an unidentified developer.

  • In the Finder on your Mac, locate the app you want to open. Don’t use Launchpad to do this! It doesn’t allow access the shortcut menu.
  • Control + click the app icon, then choose "Open" from the shortcut menu.
  • Click "Open".
    The app is now saved as an exception to your security settings, and you can open it in the future by double-clicking it like normal.

🔹 Cannot Launch HK after updating MacOS or after changing patches!

For some reason, I keep losing control of my character when I go to rest at new benches. after a little bit I'm able to pause and enable noclip to move to a screen transition and restore my control. If I go to sit on the bench again, I lose control again. I'm on Windows, Steam, most recent patch. I've got Rando, Benchwarp, debug, the dependencies for those. I've also got skill upgrades and Transcendence on, but I doubt those are affecting it. I started the save with the Benchwarp fix mod, I've tried taking it off but I'm still having issues.

This also wasn't happening for a little while after my start, I got a few benches before it started happening

Taking off BenchWarpFix did fix my issues when actually warping though

Benchwarping while in the no control state makes it so that I cant even noclip and I'm stuck underneath the bench, forcing me to quit out

I do have the Rando Map Mod, and that could be linked since I'm pretty sure it updates when I sit at a new bench.

This sounds like you're getting Bench Storage. If you're using NoClip ever when getting off of benches, then that can cause it, and requires a game restart

Common CK issues/fixes

  • Verify that the skin was installed correctly.
  • Ensure that you're enabling it from the Pause Menu, not the Main Menu.
  • If it doesn't apply, then you may need to reset your Global Settings for it. You can either manually do this by deleting the customknight.globalsettings files from your saves directors ( type ?tag saves in chat if you don't know where that is), or by using an automatic script from ?tag reset .

How to use Scarab in Microsoft Store
🔹 First enter the Xbox app and move your mouse over Hollow Knight on the left bar.
🔹 Click the three points then click "Manage".
🔹 Go to the "Files" tab and select "Browse...".
🔹 Click Hollow Knight then Content, click the path bar and copy it.
🔸Run Scarab as admin and when it asks you for the path paste what copied before.

Alternate Method:
🔹 Click on your profile then "Settings"
🔹 Go to "General" tab and select "CHANGE FOLDER"
🔹 Look for a folder where you want to install the game (Preferably inside a folder in your desktop).
🔸 Copy the path bar, then run Scarab as Administrator and when it asks you for the path, paste what copied before.

Scarab path folder needs to have Hollow Knight_Data folder inside

help guys told me to post my problem here: my radiance fight is impossible since radiance keeps appearing and dissapearing and so do her attacks and indicators. she shows up for a few frames and dissapears, same with swords, beams, orbs and her legs are completely invisible. i tried reloading the file (saving and playing again) and it worked on the invisible hk bug that i ad before. hk is now completely visible but radiance is buggy (note: i dont use any mods and i dont have any mods installed)

This glitch can happen for a number of reasons make sure that all the reasons listed listed below don't apply to you.

🔹 Your game patch doesn't match the installer you used.

  • Scarab is made for patch 1.5.78+
  • Modinstaller 1 & 2 are made for version 1.4.3.2
  • there aren't installers for other patches.

🔹 Something didn't install correctly

  • Ensure that the installer is not still in a .zip file, and that it's not in your Downloads folder.
  • Run the installer as Administrator

Save Files
The save files for Hollow Knight are shared between all installs of the game, and are easily interacted with.

🔹 What do the save files looks like?

  • Hollow Knight save files are in the form of user#.dat, where # is the save slot for the file..
  • You can take a file named user3.dat and rename it to user1.dat to set it to your first save slot.
  • You can keep a copy of all of your save files by copy and pasting them into a different folder on your computer.

🔹 Reverting Backup files

  • You have save file backups that are called user#.dat.bak#, where the first # is the save slot, and the second # is the backup number. Typically speaking, you will have your last three backups.
  • You can set a backup to be the real file by deleting the main file, and then removing the .bak# part of the backup file.

🔹 Modded save files

  • If you are using mods, a modded save may also have a user#.modded.json (and similarly named backup). Both this file and the user#.dat are part of the save.

  • On windows, the default path for Save Files is %appdata%\..\LocalLow\Team Cherry\Hollow Knight\

🔸 Why do skins take so long to make/Why is making skins so difficult?
Making a skin involves redrawing every sprite relevant to the skin - at the very least, all the sprites that feature the Knight. That, alone, is over 500 sprites. More detailed skins, editing spells and HUDs can go up to over 850 sprites. All of these sometimes needs to be redrawn over and over. Depending on the complexity of the design, making a skin can take well over months of work to complete.

🔹 Where can I commission a skin, and how much would it cost?
You can ask in #art-discussion on this server, on in #recruit in the modding server linked in the pinned messages of #modding-discussion.
The price varies with the skin's complexity, but a simple one consisting only of the Knight's basic spritesheets will cost upwards of 100 USD and Euros/90 GBP, if only because of the sheer amount of time that needs to be spent on it. More complex skins and ones of higher quality would increase in cost.

Hey I just installed scarab on my steam deck and it boots up as normal but the controller doesn't work. I could just map the buttons to keyboard inputs but I want to know if there is a way to fix this before I do so.

Mods/Controller not working correctly on Steam Deck
Issue: Steam Deck installs the Windows version of HK, then runs it in proton. This would be fine except that you install Linux Scarab, which replaces the Assembly-Csharp with the Linux version, and then it doesn't like to work correctly on "Windows" anymore

Solution: Go to the HK Library page, select Properties -> Compatibility, check "Force the use of a specific steam play compatibility tool", and select "Steam Linux Runtime" (Note: not the sniper or soldier versions)

This will reinstall the Linux version of the game, and move some files around, so you'll need to select "Change Paths" in Scarab and change it to the new install path, then reinstall your mods. After this, everything should be working.

How to fix Installer Errors
🔹 Make sure Hollow Knight is CLOSED.
🔹 Make sure that all 4 installer files have been Extracted from the .zip and that the new folder isn't in your Downloads folder. (Extract the 4 files to your desktop)

After installing, in order to actually use the mod
When the mod is correctly installed, you should see it at the top-left of your main menu, with the other mods you have installed.

If there is also some larger text that says "Load Enemy Randomizer", then press that button to randomize the enemies using the default settings (Note: you will need to wait a few minutes while this loads). If the button is not there, then go into Options > Mods, and Disable the mod, and then re-enable it. You will also need to close the game entirely, and re-open it.

I'm not sure what it is I'm doing wrong, but certain features of the Godseeker Plus mod doesn't seem to be working properly.

More specifically, I wanted to practise all bindings Collector for P5, so I got the toggleable bindings mod and Godseeker Plus, and turned on the halve damage for ascended and above option.

For whatever reason, any hit I take instantly kills me. Turning it off returns it back to two masks of damage, and I've also tried turning it on, leaving and relaunching the game and it still doesn't work.

#

So I tried out another function called segmented P5, which apparently allows you to play specific sections of the pantheon. I selected the section with the Collector in it, applied all bindings, and pressed ascend, only for the menu to disappear, and nothing to happen. I wasn't even able to pause the game, so I had to force close it.

#

I tried that twice now, and nothing changed.

#

Is there something I'm doing wrong, i.e. in the settings or combining it with certain mods, or is the mod just broken?

I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling the mod, and nothing changed.

#

If there is a solution to this, I would highly appreciate it, because I feel like I'm going to lose my mind getting two shot by everything on normal ascended Collector with all bindings.

🔹 Permissions: Ensure your antivirus software, windows defender, firewall, or equivalent are not blocking the scarab program from running.

How to use Scarab in Microsoft Store
🔹 First enter the Xbox app and move your mouse over Hollow Knight on the left bar.
🔹 Click the three points then click "Manage".
🔹 Go to the "Files" tab and select "Browse...".
🔹 Click Hollow Knight then Content, click the path bar and copy it.
🔸Run Scarab as admin and when it asks you for the path paste what copied before.

Alternate Method:
🔹 Click on your profile then "Settings"
🔹 Go to "General" tab and select "CHANGE FOLDER"
🔹 Look for a folder where you want to install the game (Preferably inside a folder in your desktop).
🔸 Copy the path bar, then run Scarab as Administrator and when it asks you for the path, paste what copied before.

Scarab path folder needs to have Hollow Knight_Data folder inside

I am using cheat engine latest version from the github and not using any mods. I am on windows 11 with my game being from steamunlocked and v1.5.78. I found the player data structure and changed all health and heart values to 999 but when I went back into the game the next gaming session, all the values were set to ??? and when I tried to get a shard, the game froze so am confused.
