This glitch can happen for a number of reasons make sure that all the reasons listed listed below don't apply to you.

🔹 Your game patch doesn't match the installer you used.

  • Scarab is made for patch 1.5.78+
  • Modinstaller 1 & 2 are made for version 1.4.3.2
  • there aren't installers for other patches.

🔹 Something didn't install correctly

  • Ensure that the installer is not still in a .zip file, and that it's not in your Downloads folder.
  • Run the installer as Administrator

hollowpirate Your game is pirated / illegitimate.
Piracy is not supported in most communities for games. Mods are not considered compatible with pirated copies, and you will not get troubleshooting support in any of the main servers for them.

HK Modding is only supported on the official versions from Steam, GoG, or the Microsoft Store.

How to use Scarab in Microsoft Store
🔹 First enter the Xbox app and move your mouse over Hollow Knight on the left bar.
🔹 Click the three points then click "Manage".
🔹 Go to the "Files" tab and select "Browse...".
🔹 Click Hollow Knight then Content, click the path bar and copy it.
🔸Run Scarab as admin and when it asks you for the path paste what copied before.

Alternate Method:
🔹 Click on your profile then "Settings"
🔹 Go to "General" tab and select "CHANGE FOLDER"
🔹 Look for a folder where you want to install the game (Preferably inside a folder in your desktop).
🔸 Copy the path bar, then run Scarab as Administrator and when it asks you for the path, paste what copied before.

Scarab path folder needs to have Hollow Knight_Data folder inside

Reset CustomKnight Creator Memory
This should fix errors that prevent the program from opening.

  • Press the WindowsKey + R at the same to time to bring up the "Run" window, then enter %appdata%\..\..\CustomKnight Creator and press Enter.
  • Delete the savestate.json file.
  • Run CustomKnight Creator again

How to fix Installer Errors
🔹 Make sure Hollow Knight is CLOSED.
🔹 Make sure that all 4 installer files have been Extracted from the .zip and that the new folder isn't in your Downloads folder. (Extract the 4 files to your desktop)
🔹 Right-click the installer file, and select "Run as Administrator".

Scarab has no list/appears blank/Failed to fetch modlinks

🔹 Folder: Make sure your folder is extracted, and on your desktop/subfolder inside your desktop and that there are the 4 files inside that came in the zipped folder.

🔹 Restart: Try rebooting your whole pc and try again opening Scarab.

🔹 Permissions: Ensure your antivirus software, windows defender, firewall, or equivalent are not blocking the scarab program from running.

🔹 VPN: If your scarab files are in order, restarting made no change and the issue persists use a VPN, If you don't already have one, https://1.1.1.1/ is a trusted free VPN.

🔹 Reset Installer: If using a VPN didn't work try resetting Scarab by doing the following:

Then run the installer again.

hello! im old hat at hollow knight but fairly new to modding it, and something appears to be going on thats messing with my in game room transitions. some transitions are mapped incorrectly (eg the entrance to the greenpath stag station instead taking me to the room above it, where you first fight hornet), and some dont work at all and just turn me right around. ive attached a list of my current mods in scarab.

Granted more notch space than possible to equip all the charms. I was missing a few and was lazy to search so, used the tool to add all charms in inventory. It did add all the charms but now, I can' equip them. I tried to un-equip a few and I can't equip them as well.

MacOs has an operating system error that seems to prevent some people from using certain networking services.

Something about HKMP's recent updates apparently triggers this error, and it's being looked into.

If you want, you can join the HKMP Discord (linked in the guide and in #modding-discussion pins) and join the Testing Role. There is a Development Build of HKMP that is trying to find the exact issue and fix it.

It is being investigated, yeah.
The problem itself is technically a MacOS problem that seems to be a problem with various programs. But the HKMP dev is trying to pinpoint it exactly, because it didn't used to affect HKMP, and only recently it does.

How to use Scarab in Microsoft Store
🔹 First enter the Xbox app and move your mouse over Hollow Knight on the left bar.
🔹 Click the three points then click "Manage".
🔹 Go to the "Files" tab and select "Browse...".
🔹 Click Hollow Knight then Content, click the path bar and copy it.
🔸Run Scarab as admin and when it asks you for the path paste what copied before.

Alternate Method:
🔹 Click on your profile then "Settings"
🔹 Go to "General" tab and select "CHANGE FOLDER"
🔹 Look for a folder where you want to install the game (Preferably inside a folder in your desktop).
🔸 Copy the path bar, then run Scarab as Administrator and when it asks you for the path, paste what copied before.

🔸 Why do skins take so long to make/Why is making skins so difficult?
Making a skin involves redrawing every sprite relevant to the skin - at the very least, all the sprites that feature the Knight. That, alone, is over 500 sprites. More detailed skins, editing spells and HUDs can go up to over 850 sprites. All of these sometimes needs to be redrawn over and over. Depending on the complexity of the design, making a skin can take well over months of work to complete.

🔹 Where can I commission a skin, and how much would it cost?
You can ask in #art-discussion on this server, on in #recruit in the modding server linked in the pinned messages of #modding-discussion.
The price varies with the skin's complexity, but a simple one consisting only of the Knight's basic spritesheets will cost upwards of 100 USD and Euros/90 GBP, if only because of the sheer amount of time that needs to be spent on it. More complex skins and ones of higher quality would increase in cost.

  • Make sure that you apply skins from the Pause Menu (Options > Mods > Custom Knight), when you have your save file loaded.
  • If you have White Boxes ◻️, restart your game. You may also need to try applying the skin in a small/empty room, like a stag station.

🔹 How it works:

HKMP puts a copy of each player into each other players world. Enemies have separate health and can be in different places; items/abilities must be collected separately; breakable objects must be broken separately.
A player's attack will happen in each player's world, damaging any enemies/players it comes in contact with. A player is only hurt by the enemies in their own world.
