How to fix Installer Errors
🔹 Make sure Hollow Knight is CLOSED.
🔹 Make sure that all 4 installer files have been Extracted from the .zip and that the new folder isn't in your Downloads folder. (Extract the 4 files to your desktop)
🔹 Right-click the installer file, and select "Run as Administrator".

Mods/Controller not working correctly on Steam Deck
Issue: Steam Deck installs the Windows version of HK, then runs it in proton. This would be fine except that you install Linux Scarab, which replaces the Assembly-Csharp with the Linux version, and then it doesn't like to work correctly on "Windows" anymore

Solution: Go to the HK Library page, select Properties -> Compatibility, check "Force the use of a specific steam play compatibility tool", and select "Steam Linux Runtime" (Note: not the sniper or soldier versions)

This will reinstall the Linux version of the game, and move some files around, so you'll need to select "Change Paths" in Scarab and change it to the new install path, then reinstall your mods. After this, everything should be working.

After installing, in order to actually use the mod
When the mod is correctly installed, you should see it at the top-left of your main menu, with the other mods you have installed.

If there is also some larger text that says "Load Enemy Randomizer", then press that button to randomize the enemies using the default settings (Note: you will need to wait a few minutes while this loads). If the button is not there, then go into Options > Mods, and Disable the mod, and then re-enable it. You will also need to close the game entirely, and re-open it.

This glitch can happen for a number of reasons make sure that all the reasons listed listed below don't apply to you.

🔹 Your game patch doesn't match the installer you used.

  • Scarab is made for patch 1.5.78+
  • Modinstaller 1 & 2 are made for version 1.4.3.2
  • there aren't installers for other patches.

🔹 Something didn't install correctly

  • Ensure that the installer is not still in a .zip file, and that it's not in your Downloads folder.
  • Run the installer as Administrator

Piracy is not supported in most communities for games. Mods are not considered compatible with pirated copies, and you will not get troubleshooting support in any of the main servers for them.

Im having some troubles with my randomizer. I have attached a google disk with some videos to show. But heres for those that dont wanna click it, but i believe its best shown visually

  • selubras bench and hut are not visible, but can interact with it. This too goes for menderbug and slys huts too. Around where the shade tends to spawn, there are magenta rectangles

  • gruz mother can be interacted with and killed, but cannot give drops or the gruzzers. Her background is also conpletely vanished

  • all forms of gruzzers are invisible, along with those husks with one horns

  • hive knight's voice lines when he attacks are completely gone. Hes completely silent during the fight, apart from one small grunt that happens rarely due to other voice lines exsisting too. The boss music is gone too, but the bees he spawns make noise (no video of as i defeated him yesterday while playing)

Because im playing room rando, im sure theres a lot more that i have yet to encounter

The mods i have on are; debug mode, benchwarp, itemchanger, menuchanger, QoL (off, but enabled), randomizer 4, randomizercore, redobirthplace (was practicing climbing fast), SFCore, vasi

After installing, in order to actually use the mod
When the mod is correctly installed, you should see it at the top-left of your main menu, with the other mods you have installed.

If there is also some larger text that says "Load Enemy Randomizer", then press that button to randomize the enemies using the default settings (Note: you will need to wait a few minutes while this loads). If the button is not there, then go into Options > Mods, and Disable the mod, and then re-enable it. You will also need to close the game entirely, and re-open it.

How to use Scarab in Microsoft Store
🔹 First enter the Xbox app and move your mouse over Hollow Knight on the left bar.
🔹 Click the three points then click "Manage".
🔹 Go to the "Files" tab and select "Browse...".
🔹 Click Hollow Knight then Content, click the path bar and copy it.
🔸Run Scarab as admin and when it asks you for the path paste what copied before.

Alternate Method:
🔹 Click on your profile then "Settings"
🔹 Go to "General" tab and select "CHANGE FOLDER"
🔹 Look for a folder where you want to install the game (Preferably inside a folder in your desktop).
🔸 Copy the path bar, then run Scarab as Administrator and when it asks you for the path, paste what copied before.

Scarab path folder needs to have Hollow Knight_Data folder inside

ive been trying to use the above method to start playing with mods through microsoft store and its simply not working. every time i try to get hollow knight_data in there it never considers it a viable path

  • Make sure that you apply skins from the Pause Menu (Options > Mods > Custom Knight), when you have your save file loaded.
  • If you have White Boxes ◻️, restart your game. You may also need to try applying the skin in a small/empty room, like a stag station.

when I put on a skin it is not visible, but the skin that the mod gives to the geo is visible

that didn't happen before, my hollow knight is legal to clarify things

  • Verify that the skin was installed correctly.
  • Ensure that you're enabling it from the Pause Menu, not the Main Menu.
  • If it doesn't apply, then you may need to reset your Global Settings for it. You can either manually do this by deleting the customknight.globalsettings files from your saves directors ( ?saves in chat if you don't know where that is), or by using an automatic script from ?reset .
