ill help than, they do that cause if you attack ||before he bows the 1st pahse will be pufferfish instead of him doing some attacks before that, and that makes it harder to 1cycle, additionally they as you said usually time a great slash just when he stands up from the animation, and they usually also try to fit in a dash slash before he eventually gets into the pufferfish phase||

basically just makes the ||soul farming/dmg more managable for 1 cycle||
