Hello! I've been trying to route a ||"spell only" (only using spells to damage/kill enemies)|| run, and I'm currently stumped with ||the elder baldur inside Ancestral Mound. I initially had the idea to use Shaman Stone to cut the spell count down from 4 to 3, meaning I could beat it by just having full soul... but Salubra is locked behind Gruz Mother, who I cannot kill since I wouldn't have spells at that point. Does anyone know of a skip to get past Gruz Mother or a way of improving my damage otherwise?||

||Also, Sly is locked behind Gruz Mother. so grinding to buy Lantern to get dream nail is out of the question. Also grubsong is unavailable until at least greenpath||

||And I'm totally fine with using the nail to hit false knight to break the wall as you aren't really doing any damage||

you got stuck right when you got your first spell too so like... yeah
technically you can kill a baldur with the nail and no other items, but even that would not do anything

if you are on PC and want to do such a challenge run I would recommend using mods to emulate it, either by using debugmod and reducing nail damage to zero, or using the mod parry knight||

||currently the only hurdle is getting past gruz mother without the nail, if that can be solved then it's totally possible||

besides that you can also just enter the weird and wonderful world of glitches in hk, which will let you do basically anything
||first one being just.. exiting the mound right as you get vengeful spirit by 'clipping' through the door||

but hk has a lot of glitches so you probably don't wanna do them

A way to double check would be to enable Steam's fps counter to see at which framerate the game actually runs. But note that if both VSync and the cap are off it might not cap at 60 anyways

I would recommend doing a few attempts not trying to hit him just focusing on dodging, he really doesn’t overlap any attacks or anything and just throws them slowly one after the other, so if you have a fully consistent way to dodge each of his attacks, you will beat him||
Do you have trouble dodging any attacks in particular ?

Keep going until you are used to all of them, it will happen soon enough

Also the "||pufferfish" attacks happen each time he loses 25% of his health
So you can kinda know how far you’ve gone ||

Also also, do not start the ||fight by attacking him, dreamnail him instead, if you attack him while he bows you get a free pufferfish you would rather avoid||

You don’t ||do damage, you can also just wait the bow out, and maybe bow back yourself||

assuming you're asking for yourself, and have everything unlocked, i just used ||my standard pantheon build of quick focus/shape of unn + strength/quick slash - dps boost of strength is always nice but removing it won't affect playstyle (so things like mark of pride or shaman stone are also viable in the slot), iirc quick slash allows you to get double hits when jumping up to hit abs rad, and then survivability with the other two allowing easier heals during almost all attacks - sword burst/beam burst you can dodge the subsequent waves while healing (in addition to the itemless heal after the 3rd beam burst), sword rain you can reposition during it, sword wall/wall of light you can move away from it for time (and also, in plats you can shape of unn under the sword on the bottom center platform), and you can also just dodge the orbs too assuming they didn't start along the floor (usually going under them works as their turning radius isn't enough to avoid hitting the floor) - i don't think it's possible to reliably heal in the final phase still but that's the final phase||

A good setup is to dream nail him after the stagger, then use howling wraiths 3 times and hit the falling rocks while he is in the middle. This way he will be super close to staggering again, repeating the process.||

@onyx fossil my go to formula for a playthrough is ||get all the basic things of course, get vengeful spirit dash and claw and then so much of the map is opened especially since i think i see cdash in your inventory since its pretty blurry literally you have so much options just explore take in the beauty and grab charms on your way||

Charms ; : strength shaman quick slash shaman and spell twister
Also I played a bit too aggressive in phase 4 ( plat) which is why I took so much damage

Okay let's start
Phase 1 start with 3 shriek after that hit her twice with nail and boom you are in phase 2
Phase 2 try to get 3 more shrieks and u can also d dark on spikes to make them disappear after that few nail hits later u will reach phase 3
In this phase she goes in middle snd spam swords from above
I recommend doing this nail only so you can heal with more soul
