I would reccomend fireb0rn's tutorial (not an ad). He describes pretty much everything you need to know. Sometimes it's a bit longer than it needs to be, but teaches you everything (assuming that you have mb 6 hours to spare)

in my opinion, if you want to continue, try to get your shade back, if you've killed glamorous husk, so you don't lose the geo
if not, close the file and start over

only try to get your shade back if it isn't far
within 5 rooms is my limit (or 2 big rooms)

In debug. Give urself inf soul, use quick cast and just try fb'ing across the room

That'll help timing the fb's and for the turnarounds use claw grip if on controller cuz dpad overrides joystick (check fireb0rns greenpath episode of his any% guide for more info on it) and if on kb then use socd cleaner

I have a slight issue with playing on a computer. Sometimes when I tap direction input only a little bit, if I am facing in different dirrection than that input, it will just move me in the direction of the input, but I won't turn around. It is usually very minor but it can be pretty annoying on fireball skips. Is there any way to fix it or is it just a issue coded in the game?

i'm not an expert, but I've been doing a little work with TAS'ing, and the frame by frame inputs have convinced me how trash this games inputs are

Any% is the most beginner friendly for current patch, theres a powerpoint on SRC (speedrun.com) and theres also the 1221 video guide by fireborn thats mostly applicable to 1432

You can also run All Skills on current patch, but a lot of the routing's significantly different (and worse) from 1221

Ok, I didn't really get stuck on them. Washer Knights is a mod created by Dandy which unlocks the final form of the Watcher Knights. It's just an aesthetic change, but it gives them a truly intimidating form.

This can be found in the Hollow Knight main discord by searching from:Dandy#8904 has:file during:2021-06-19. Look for WasherKnights.dll....

some context as to what category this would be in would be helpful - for example Spelless does this shade skip just to salubra, so kills the shade with 2 pogos. Other shade skips, like Great Hopper%^ shade skip, need the shade at full HP, so have to parry up to the salubra bench

Most hit it once before you go up so that you kill it with your last pogo, otherwise your shade goes back to where it was

first knight is just going over the knight over and over again
for pairs prioritize using soul to hit both w/ fb
keep the pairs' health similar to kill them at the same time, if ur low on hp this also gives u an opportunity to heal

in 1432 you can only menu drop if you walk/dash off a ledge and open inventory as soon as you fall off the ledge (its like a frame perfect timing)
or if you open menu on a floor thats about to break, like the one you ddive on in peaks

you can get the feeling of when you need to open inventory by hitting inventory after a split second of holding a direction until it works

some ledges have weird hitboxes (like the one right before cheart room that used to be a conveyor)

there's only a couple of inventory drops that save a decent amount of time, the easiest one to learn, and the one that saves the most time, is the one by lurien

#

inv drops collectively save around 10 seconds iirc on the whole any% route so its not a huge deal when your first starting out if you can't get them

#

ye if you fail seer skips that ones good

i'm just saying if you keep opening inventory too early and missing it don't spend 2 years trying to get it

Hey everybody! I have a small question I hope someone here can answer.
If you wanna speedrun HK, what is the "optimal" controller layout?
I always play with a nintendo pro controller and never changed any buttons and since I played a lot casually before learning the speedrun it will be hard for me to change anything.
I watched Fireborns any% NMG tutorial and remember him say you should have quick cast on a button like A, B, Y or X and not on the default button? Is it preference or is it technically stricly worse?

i found an OOB glitch in the watcher tower. it let me walk on top of the room that is accessed midway through the elevator ride up to lurien. i hit the elevator spikes and, after respawning, clipped through the ground. is there any way this could be implemented into a speedrun, or is it already used?

elevator storage is banned in NMG unfortunately, and All Glitches goes too fast to use this

it works because when you hit the spikes, you hit them on a very specific spot that let you land on the top of the elevator first, which in essence binds you to the elevator

i believe another application is skipping the Watcher Knights fight, but with elevators only existing in City theres a very limited number of them and limited uses

if you have separate audio tracks for mic's and game audio and music and such it might be that, so i'd just run a clip through and double check (lost footage for a low% guide i was making, twice because of that)

Speedrunning is as much about personal achievement than anything else. If there's something you enjoy about HK you can focus on that!

If you want general advice on how to get started though, there's plenty of guides on speedrun.com, including an any% video guide from Fireborn that -while a little out of date- covers the fundamentals for most categories.

That usage of map was banned in the category NSOOB (No Storage Out Of Bounds) but that category turned into NMMS (No Main Menu Storage) later when Main Menu Storage was found

Hey, I've been trying to practice for my first speedrun (so the game is downpatched to 1.2.2.1 and has debug mod) but sometimes when I quit to main menu or load a save I get a blue screen and lose all my progress. At this rate, practicing will be impossible and Google didn't really help. Anyone know anything?

You are sure you are in the save file that doesn't have the dreamers killed?

(You can check by looking on the map, it would have the dreamer shapes on them if you hadn't killed them)

If you are talking about with regards to speedrun.com, I find that highly highly unlikely that they are banned. If you mean on the hollow knight server if I had to guess a scam of some kind

I'm having issues with my autosplitter on 1221. It doesn't start, and when I manually start it, it either skips a bunch on the transition to KP or xroads, or when I manually split for VS it decides I have claw as well and won't let me undo the split

Try restarting LiveSplit. If that doesn't work, try restarting Hollow Knight and then LiveSplit. If that doesn't work, try restarting your computer.
