I'm a new speedrunner and have been working on learning the routes. I did a few loose speedruns just to test out my skill level, but now I'm trying to reach for sub 1hr. I managed to learn acid skip and shade skip, but I'm really struggling with the vengeful spirit skips. I can't do it consistently, and it's super frustrating.

That's really personal preference/what layout you like. There are people that run with playstation controllers (4 or 5) xbox controllers, switch controllers (probably not recommended because they can be finnicky), hitbox controllers etc.

I'd considder sub 40 to be when your getting serious. So 40:30 is quite good.

The 10 min run is likely Any% AG. The wr for ag is 4:29, while the wr for nmg which is basically glitchless is 30:49

The main ways to ignore gravity are like noclip and maybe bench storage crest swapping, but bench storage crest swapping takes away your control (so it's probably not feasible) and noclip dies on upwards transitions

You have DDark so beating THK/WK shouldn't be too terrible, they die incredibly quickly with DDark and Shaman's. I would skip wings, they take quite a big detour and don't really help that much. Doing dreamers and Isma in 3 hours seems reasonable

You need to not be holding left or right when you land otherwise you get a landing stun

Jumping higher can help with this, as you finish the pogo before landing so you don't get stunned. But this means you get to pogo less often so it is slower

Ehm it's just a blind frame perfect fireball😅 . Fireball changes your subpixels perfectly for wcs after hugging a wall which is why it's frame perfect instead of impossible.

Atleast it's better than clingcling which I have never managed to do.

It's not too bad because you can time it off off your last walljump. But iirc you need to be tuching the ceiling as well.

I notice that I release right during the jump which is likely to avoid dunking my head against the roof?

Because if you walljump holding no directions then you don't hit your head for some reason

by first damage cycle, do you mean the punish for the first attack? if so, its only 4 needle hits (known as 4n opener) or 5 needle hits (5n opener) depending on which variation you are doing, neither of which are too difficult to pull off. if you are opening with spear + 4 needle + spear (s4s opener) then you are doing an outdated method and i would recommend switching to a 4n or 5n opener instead

from my experience 4n is easier to execute but 5n is more versatile since you can start the fight with only 4 silk (enough to spear the wall to start the fight) and still be fine, while 4n requires full silk

i would recommend joining the pinned speedrunning server on more resources on bell beast quick kill

To be specific, the bug which allowed you to hit those levers through walls exists exclusively on 1.2.2.1. It does not exist on any later or earlier versions, to our knowledge. Which is why I'm so certain you downpatched [because you can just do that from the steam menu! You can opt into the 1.2.2.1 branch and you can downpatch really easily]

I am getting tired of trying to get every ending in the game, and want to try and earn the speedrun achievment. Is it best to just fight the main bosses and then absorb the infection from Hollow Knight for the quickest run?

It's been a few days an nobody is going to care, but I'm almost done the routing, and have realized that I get the combat charms after I have killed almost all the bosses.

Yes! But this is for this specific charm order. Keep in mind I'm not very good at routing, and the route was created for a race, so there is a few areas which prioritize safety (S&Q after lifeblood core instead of going straight to shade cloak)

I should also mention that there is no one route for this category. There are too many variables. At what point do we get dream nail? Do we fight a boss now or wait until we have more combat power? What grub order? The best thing you could make is a list of priorities, like getting C-Dash before wings instead of doing the slope ball or shade skip.

if you enter Bellhart before this part of Greymoor it skips the fight. I think you can skip Lace via Deep Docks simple key door, get cloak, and still fight Moorwing

so basicaly I started speedrunning recently and just downgraded my game to 1221 ( and it feel amazing ) but now everytime I play I can't attack and need to rebind my attack button on my mouse even tho it was still binded

Yeah, linux is like that. There are 3 main ways to get linux

1. Dual boot. Either have a second OS on your computer, or replace your current OS. If you have an old laptop, this is a good idea, as it can help it last for a little longer as well.
2. WSL2: Or Windows Subsection for Linux 2. By far the easiest, but won't run as well as 1 or 3
3. VM, or virtual machine. Essentially having a linux install running at the same time as windows/mac. Very resource intensive, but runs very well.
   Finally some general linux advice. BE EXTREMELY CAREFUL. You can brick your entire machine by putting the wrong thing in the console. And when I say brick the machine, I mean you can erase your hard drive.
   Oh and 1 more thing, I recommend getting Ubuntu. It's a good linux distribution for gaming and general use.

Yeah I've opted to just do the TAS inputs in slo motion so they are reasonably accurate, speed it up, and then just sync the finish time to the time it would be if actually done in a TAS. bit too extreme for such a small thing otherwise XD
