Turning around cancels the nail animation allowing you to do another slash earlier. This is raither easy on a boss like radiance or absrad but harder on something like Failed champion because you need to turn around and then back in the same timeframe to utilice this.

After the run concludes, you can find your RTA by switching the livesplit comparison from Game Time to Real Time, and that'll give it to you to include in your submission! You could also add a real time timer to your livesplit, in case you're worried you might forget to switch back.

if you want it early, i recommend;

• benching at leg eater when you enter fungal from crossroads
• s&q after picking up claw back to leg eater bench
• head from leggy to queen's station (theres a journal and seal on the way that you can grab), bench & unlock the stag
• head up into fog canyon for wraiths (pick up the seal on the way there, optionally also the journal depending on how much money youre wanting to spend)
• warp back to queens station stag so you can stag back to crossroads to do blue lake shade skip

For 100% this is a list of what counts for completion and you can skip 12 of these. Finishing under 20 hours isn't hard, so as long as you've got a map, and are relatively efficient you should be fine.

Normally you just soob/boob and then navigate to the back side of the load.

Soob = storage out of bounds (Uses 1028 quickmap)
Boob = Benchstorage out of bounds

We can use it to each loads you normally couldn't reach but it's also used to save time over going inbounds.

Two examples from Any% NMMS legazy route

In the room outside leg eater we go oob to be able to fall trough the entire room instead of going around the platforms.

While in queens gardens we go oob in the room before petra arena and head straight to load next to the lever that opens the shortcut. Which is normally unreachable.

okay so i made a mistake in my run, i went up to songclave to get the white key and go down go whiteward for clawline first things first but once i got down to the underworks i realized my only way out was the exit you'd normally take after last judge, since i never grabbed the ventrica at songclave to easily leave after getting the clawline. that forced me to go through the entire left side of choral chambers which added WAY too much time

thankfully, i can roll back my progress to the start of act 2 and retrace my steps, grabbing the songclave ventrica this time

hopefully that goes well later when i pick the game back up

Basically, to fight Last Judge you need the 5 bells, and the bell in Marrow is completely inaccessible unless you fight Bell Beast, but that'd require Silk Spear and getting the Silk Heart from Bell Beast, so it's not viable

There are differences, but the leaderboards are split, so you can run whichever you want, or whichever your pc can handle as 1221 runs poorly for many

Any% is mostly ran on 1221 and 1432, but the main difference between 1432 and 1578 is watcherknights backrolls and devout skip.

Also sporeshroom does a ton of damage to thk on 1432 which is why deepnest is unironically good on LP.

1221 is a little faster mainly because of skippable cutscenes.

Hope this helps there are a bunch of other small differences aswell.

On release patch you can do a walljump in a spot in citadel, which makes it optimal to not get Drifter's Cloak, but that was patched out, so on later patches it's optimal to get Drifter's Cloak, and this completely changes the whole route

Do note that release patch has the increased difficulty of double damage hazards in some places and more enemies doing double damage, and those big enemies in HHA having more health

fireball skips are minimal timesave, they just get a lot of hype for some reason

i recommend you learn spellless variants of the fireball skips, then learn the acid skips and blue lake shade skip, and you’ll be fine, maybe lose like 15 seconds

if you’re determined to learn fireball skips, on controller it’s helped me and other people to hold left on the joystick and tap right on the dpad for turnarounds
for pc, a third party program like overbind or socd cleaner makes a similar thing possible, where your last pressed key overrides the currently pressed one without you needing to repress

The reason you're probably not getting anywhere with fireball skips is quick cast. If you cast with the heal button they're impossible, need to use the quick cast button

Any advices to get into speedrunning ? I'm not a god gamer (usually two to four attemps on lace 2 for example) but i'd like to go under 2h30

my current run (while going for double jump and four spools fragments, and also sawtooth circlet)

The main thing is just practice, but u r getting some extra stuff u dont need. For sub 2.5 hrs u can theoretically keep getting these extra things just fine but they are definitely weighing ur time down. I personally would suggest not going for faydown cloak or any spool fragments, sawtooth circlet is fine if u comfortable with it since it’s not a huge time loss but it’s still smth to worth consider to remove. Ofc the biggest time loss would come from deaths so that’s where practice comes into play

• IGT stands for in-game time, which is what you see when you finish the game
• LRT stands for load-removed time, which pauses the timer during loads and is the standard timing for hollow knight speedruns
• RTA stands for real time attack, which just means real time

Yeah, I have only ever completed 3 HK speedruns, but with tons and tons of practice or reset runs in between. I play on switch so it is a lot harder to practice skips. My first (completed) run was 2:30 or something like that. My third one was 54m which I am quite proud of

You shouldn't really need any skips in cogwork just for the 5 hour achievement so I'd just recommend having the melody puzzle written down somewhere so you can do it faster, the rest should just be following a fairly straight line through

What skips where you doing? Are you doing qga at that point?

I'd imagine shadeskip, the background pogo in city and fcas.

I did not do qga, but I did the others. I had the most trouble on THK fight. I would get there at like 45 minutes and then die over and over for 30 minutes, and then eventually give up and reset. I don’t know why, but I just couldn’t get it down

I tried learning qga, but after 3 hours of practicing I only managed to do it once

I am pretty happy with a sub hour time, so I am just working on sub 1h 45m for Silksong at the moment. My current silksong record is 1h 58m

I like speedrunning Silksong more because there aren’t any ridiculously hard skips. Craw skip kinda sucks but it isn’t nearly as bad as qga

1:54 is also only 24 minnutes off which is not that much at this level of optimization.

Yea my first sub 1:30 silksong any% had 4 deaths and I took quite a few safety benches so it is very feasible especially if u have good movement.

I’ve gone out of my way to get ddark every time I speed run just because I’m too bad at the watcher knights to do it without

Atleast I get to go to lemm after soul sanctum, and ddark is also not that far out of the way

And soul master gives you like 300 geo which is nice

I had a run which was beating my any% pb by 10 MINUTES

When my mom called me and i died in crystal peaks while afk

And i ended up losing 8.5 of those minutes to getting back from my bench (last bench was in city) and collecting new geo for deepnest stag bc then when i was tilted i threw my shade

My pb before was 58 bc i was ass, i was on pace for a 47 and i ended with a sub56 😿

A speedrun category idea "poor run". Get to the first village and farm enemies until you have enough to get magnetite brooch (you can't break breakable walls, defeat bosses or anything that would progress the game while farming) then be defeated to lose all your rosaries and equip magnetite brooch to begin the run.

you can only use rosary cannon speedrun

against bosses and gauntlets

but you need to mod it so you could reload it without going to a bench

and to get a rosary cannon at the beginning of the game

you can use nail and other things outside boss fights and gauntlets (you can use nail against the Moss mother because you can't get rosaries at the beginning)

to get rosaries needed to fire rosary cannon

Guys, how to go through path of pain, like, hitless?
Like I'm beating it everyday and still manage to fail every single room at least once(except of moments of miracle). And this is very annoying and taking much time.

I would reccomend learning speedrun strats or making your own strats so that you attempt to do the same thing every time and after a while you will start to know the sycles and stuff so you can compensate for small mistakes.

This is my hitless run of pop. There are some safety strats that I don't do here like in R1 you xan pogo the right saw and wait to get trough instead of squezing trough. In R2 you can charge a cdash at the same height as the top saw which is a comfy strat for that section with the moving saws. https://youtu.be/I2XVuV86NFY

There are also some speedstrats that I don't use as they where not discovered at the time but those shouldn't apply to hitless.

I would reccomend getting debug so that you can use savestates.

Also in R3 I would reccomend reentering the room to reset the cycle.

Technically it's also optimal to take a detour into dark deepnest ok the way to trampass too but that is very much optional

Lymafly debug mod and the minisavestates are not compatible so if you do both then the modding assembly will overwrite the minisavestates
