It is likely it crashed and rollbacked to the latest server save and I’m afraid they cannot compensate for progress lost

Crashes happen and it is not really possible to give every single player back what they lost as 1. They might be lying 2. It would take a lot of time as there are hundreds of players playing. It’s simply just not a solution
