A tip here. When the hair has those lighter spots, those are highlights not shadows!! So your coloring would be inverted

well generally you use airbrush for gradients or light, but u still use it minimally, I only use it for adding finishing touches of lighting, NOT rim lighting, just a glow

beginners tend to use it for the majority of their drawings and it always looks bad

learning with a harder edged brush is harder and therefore will help u learn quicker

with that i agree, it shouldint be used for hard shadows since sometimes shadows need to define sharp forms

and you just cant get that result with a air brush

Ok not to do with shading, but sketching. Get a pencil brush, there will be lots online for free, but imo they just give a sketch a nicer finish, either pencil or like a charcoal-ish looking one, let me find an example

As for shading, square brush is my go to, with some fade like u see above, tbh it’s very similar to this one but there’s no “taper” so the brush size doesn’t change with pressure, but the opacity does so it’ll fade when lightly pressed and it can also act sometimes as a blending brush

I use two square brushes, one solid with no texture, and one with texture, makes ur drawings look less flat if ur going for a more rendered look

I haven’t finished this yet but u can see the shading isn’t too flat bc of the different textures i use. Though you don’t always have to use textures, it just depends on the style you go for
